- Comment on Outer Worlds 2 cut to $70 after backlash 2 days ago:
I seriously don’t even understand why people are excited about this game.
I played the first Outer Worlds on GamePass. I love SciFi and really enjoyed the setting. But it got so bland and predictable quite quickly that I dropped it. I picked up Witcher 3 soon after and loved that game even though I’m not a big Fantasy person. I finished the main story plus a bunch of side quests and still recommend it to people today. How people play these two games and still find Outer Worlds fun is beyond me.

Good point, I should set up something permanent. I have only ever done PayPal or bank transfer one-offs. Can I find an overview of the Liberapay, Patreon and so forth to see who they are, what cut they take and why I would pick one over the other?

You’re not in the EU then it seems. The EU is mandating USB-C now. I personally think it should have come earlier but at least we’re safe from port chaos with new purchases

Calm down. It’s pretty well-known in economic circles that increasing taxes on a good will reduce consumption of said good, unless it’s absolutely lime maybe baby formula. Even then some poor people are likely to be priced out of the market or at least forced to reduce consumption.
- Comment on YSK that apart from not having a car, the single greatest thing you can do for the climate is simply eating less red meat 3 weeks ago:
The income from a tax is generally not tied to a specific cause in most countries. If all it does is reducing meat consumption that would be a net benefit for the climate. And in this case also be beneficial for the economy as res meat isn’t healthy and contributes to a lot of disease among the population.

The ballpark numbers seem well in line with similar studies I have seen elsewhere. So while I don’t doubt there might be minor flaws in this particular source material, the point still stands.
We shouldn’t nitpick too much about stuff that’s generally trying very hard to get facts right while the right or making up shit left, right and center and call fact-checking a limitation of their free speech.
Suggestion: point out flaws but also confirm that it’s definitely not just made up and probably largely correct

I might be able get behind this argument when you talk about the rules on plastic straws. But red meat is terrible for the environment. As is driving cars. Especially ICE and especially when it’s just one person, i.e. most work commutes. Another thing is heating/ cooling homes btw.
I personally think there are a lot of small things we should do as individuals but I understand not everyone might want to do them. I also agree that it’s up to governments to do a lot of heavy lifting. That can be things like establishing district heating or improving public transport. But maybe it can also be adding higher taxes on red meat.

There’s this one Nazi CEO that I hope we can agree either has no soul or at least one that we could do without. Yet we’re not killing him.
Killing people is wrong and while there may be factors that make it seem more warranted, nothing will ever make it right.
- Comment on Airbnb will now show users the total cost of their stay right away 3 months ago:
Tried that many times. It has given me the exact same place for slightly cheaper than AirBnB once. Other times it was more expensive but most often of simply had worse choices.
- Comment on Airbnb will now show users the total cost of their stay right away 3 months ago:
I guess: great concept, shitty company.
Like with so many “tech giants”, they had a great idea but greed is spoiling it. I wish we had more “public infrastructure” for this. I’d love to have OSS, tax-funded or at least heavily regulated SoMe, video sharing, home swapping/renting, local marketplace, … Those should not be industries, they should be part of our society’s fabric like the fire department or trash pick-up.
- Comment on Airbnb will now show users the total cost of their stay right away 3 months ago:
I share a lot of of the criticism towards AirBnB. However, I’ve often ended up using them either way. We travel with a dog and a toddler. They need to be allowed in the first place. And ideally we get a kitchen, a separate room so we can still have normal noise and light when the kid sleeps. Often we even find Airbnbs with toys, kids books, dog beds, treats on the table when we arrive, …
You simply don’t get that in hotels. At least not in a price range I’ve considered so far

Did you see the Hyundai Ioniq 6? Or the very new Kia EV4? They look very “modern” but then again I’d say ICE cars are constantly changing design too.
- Comment on You guys have to end it 4 months ago:
Well, out Kona is a weird crossover-y thing but otherwise literally identical to its ICE brothers.
Maybe Peugeot, Citroen and similar are what you are after? The new Peugeot 308 electric is pretty “boring” - it’s not an amazing EV but better than what they had before
- Comment on This Cybertruck shaped man is destroying our government 4 months ago:
Putin is a violent, ruthless dictator supported by a corrupt oligarchy. While he might claim to borrow ideas from communism, 9/10 people I have heard supporting communism hate Putin.
And while I don’t really like conservatives, I also think it’s unfair to most conservatives to pretend Trump is “just conservative”.
- Comment on You guys have to end it 4 months ago:
Apart from China, Hyundai/Kia is producing really great EVs. And the German brands have viable ones that might eventually catch up to Korea and China now that they’re taking it more seriously. Renault is really getting it lately and even Stellantis is coming with new platforms that are pretty good. The Japanese have invested more in anti-EV-propaganda than in EVs.
We have a Hyundai Kona from 2019 and it’s an amazing car. Every single person who ever tried it never wants to drive an ICE again. And this is an old low-to-mid-end vehicle. Our next EV is definitely going to be a lot better.
