-sigh- time to start getting accustomed to libre office.

I switched a few months ago, never ran into any issues. I recommend!

I couldn’t effect the same workflow on LO as I was in PowerPoint but I pivoted to ONLYOFFICE and it is excellent. Let’s say 90% of the ease of use of PP (haven’t tried its other modules yet), for free (or did I pay a small fee? Either way, better than a lifelong renter status), and with no AI. My presentation is kinda micro-slide-y so there’s a high volume of non-dense slides; once I got into the 200s I noticed OO would bog down on me but restarting the software would clear that up instantly. The only real gripe (and it’s the same with LO) is that it doesn’t support ‘sections’ so I can’t group and collapse my slides for ease of navigation. No big deal.

Just looked up Onlyoffice and the first banner on their site now reads: Now driven by AI-Powered virtual assistants and smart agents… God damnit…

Office365 to Microsoft 365 to Windows 365 (that’s something else now) to Copilot 365 and now Microsoft 365 Copilot App.
Honestly, I’m surprised 365 has remained static all this time. A little impressed, even.
absentbird@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Especially since 365 is a really stupid part of the name. What is with Microsoft and 360 numbers?
01189998819991197253@infosec.pub 2 months ago
I guess they think we’ll use it 365 days a year. Or, maybe, we’ll just pay for it 365 days a year. Besides the Xbox and their 365 line, where else did they use other 360 numbers?
commander@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Lol. Please everyone contribute to the change you want to see. If you’re not sharing spreadsheets and slide decks in a team, then for personal use you should be good with Collabora (LibreOffice based). It’s great. Write your novel and short stories in Collabora
Buelldozer@lemmy.today 2 months ago
Installing Collabra Office on a Windows PC requires the use of the Microsoft Store. Ick.
Gluek@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Nowadays a Windows PC forces you to use a Microsoft account anyway.

melfie@lemy.lol 2 months ago
Don’t really care what they call it, I’m not paying a subscription for software or running anything in the cloud that could just as well run locally. The fact that there are decent open source alternatives means I don’t have to give a shit.
chiliedogg@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Unfortunately, it’s not really an option for most professionals. They don’t get to choose what software their organizations use, and are stuck with Microsoft products.
melfie@lemy.lol 1 month ago
Fair point, although if I don’t like what my company is using, I often install open source instead. Sometimes, that’s not feasible to your point.

IIRC this happened in January of 2025. The rebrand obviously failed because I don’t know a single person who calls it anything other than “Office” or “Microsoft Office”.
chaogomu@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I’m calling all of microslop. So there’s that.
87Six@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
I love you, because they specifically tried to tell lus to stop callibg it slop
You’re a hero, man / woman (idk what kinda gender chaogomu is supposed to suggest - eldrich entity?)

I don’t know a single person who calls Word or Excel “Microsoft Office” lol

OnlyOffice and LibreOffice are still called OnlyOffice and LibreOffice.

In reality the copilot is not their ai, it is the user!! They drain every single click, data, keyboard input, every mouse mouvements for a while now. The strategy is to train an ai to replace the worker. The copilot is you.

So all of the Microsoft 365 users become instantly AI users? Microsoft gonna report after months that AI users surged the first months of 2026, stocks gonna go up, shareholders happy.

I really like libreoffice honestly. In my job I have to use docs but I find myself copying from libre office most of the time. Prior to that, I used to create all my visuals with office and do my graphs in excel. So I’ve tried a few different ways to do things. Libre reminds me of old school products and I kind of like that. Plus it does what I want with shapes. Which is nice when I need to make visuals. I still use excel though, for now.
Dozzi92@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I was hoping your last sentence was a replacement for Excel. I use Excel to maintain the books for my business. I’ve built a really nice book for keeping track. The thought of migrating it to something where certain functions may not work keeps me paying my subscription fees.
thevoidzero@lemmy.world 1 month ago
How much do you pay? Maybe you can pay someone to write you a custom program to do those things. Maybe in libre office, or python, or some other language with gui and plots.
Beebabe@lemmy.world 1 month ago
It’s more of a “haven’t experimented” with the alternatives yet rather than them not being good. Mainly a time issue for me.
echindod@programming.dev 1 month ago
I avoid spreadsheets in general. But I have used some pretty funky formulas in libre office’s calc. I’m just kind of curious what formulas you use that aren’t supported in Calc.
Beebabe@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I do a lot of data entry stuff and have some custom sheets and graphs I’ve made for individuals over the years. Time, mainly.
blackn1ght@feddit.uk 2 months ago
Gross.
How long do we reckon it’ll be before it’s re-branded back to “Office”?

After they rename it Microsoft Copilot 365 with New Live Teams Outlook Series One S
chiliedogg@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Pleb - only poor people get the S. Real office drones need the Series X One S Slim X AI X
TemplaerDude@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago
They are trying so fucking hard, it’s so sad. Especially when everyone saw that report of them slashing AI related metrics because nobody is fucking using it.
I can’t wait to build my new PC and install Linux. Cannot wait.
musubibreakfast@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I want this AI bubble to burst so bad, let all this bullshit go back up in flames. I want to go back to 2017 when videocards and ram were reasonably priced 🥲
best_redditor@leminal.space 1 month ago
i want to say we won’t see 2017 this century but i genuinely do not care if we ever see it again,i just want it to end one way or other so i myself will accept any crossfires from these lizards just to end this nightmare.
VoodooAardvark@lemmy.zip 1 month ago
I promise whatever your current PC is can run Linux just fine. Pull the trigger. Install Linux on a USB, boot your current hardware to the thumb drive to take it for a spin, when you can see it works fine, flash the main drive with Linux and don’t look back.
TemplaerDude@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago
That is also the plan! I’m just waiting for 40,000+ photos and videos to finish transferring to a cloud drive I obtained, I’ve got a couple distributions ready to tool around with on a drive, just a few more days and I’m going to finally start the process of getting off this microslop nonsense I’ve been looped into since the 90s.
BoycottTwitter@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
I think it’s time to make a serious push into getting people to boycott Microsoft along with OpenAI. Windows is becoming a bloated surveillance operating system and Office 365 is raising their prices and adding an AI feature based on OpenAI’s LLMs. OpenAI donated $25 million to Trump.

This renaming happened for the Office app a while back, but now they’ve applied it to Office itself? It is April 1st already?
LNRDrone@sopuli.xyz 2 months ago
Yeah the online 365 office was branded with Copilot BS sometime last summer I think. Also logging in to the online office throws you to the copilot prompt by default. Even before this the online version of office was getting so bad that it was not worth using anymore. I’ve been using LibreOffice for 3+ years now, but every now and then I gave to access a sheet it something with a different PC and still run into this office garbage.
snooggums@piefed.world 2 months ago
On my phone trying to log jnto office.com would give me a splash page to install the copilot app with no option to just use Outlook. Found out if you go directly to the app subdomain (outlook.office365.com) you could log in normally through the browser. Computer didn’t prompt for the copilot app of course, just the phone.
Wonder if that option will go away now. If so, I won’t be checking for scheduled meetings on my phone anymore.

It’s like when they renamed their Remote Desktop app to “The Windows App”. Like wtf?

Where did you get your information?
ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Will they rename Windows (Winslop) to “CopilotOS”? If yes, I’ll nuke Windows 10 (!) from my SSD, then replace it with Manjaro or some similar simplified Arch derivative, as my main OS.
Narauko@lemmy.world 1 month ago
The only reason I haven’t switched to Manjaro permanently is because mods for the Warhammer tides games is much more tedious and I play Battlefield 6. The rootkit anti cheat software that many of the new multiplayer games use suck, but I do still want to play some of those games.
AethiopeRoot@lemmy.zip 1 month ago
Now I only use the damn windows os for games…otherwise windows sucks
Passerby6497@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Been running Bazzite for a year with minimal gaming issues. Only reason to run windows for games IMO is if you have to have a rootkit running to play, guessing that’s why you’re still using it?
potustheplant@feddit.nl 2 months ago
I cancelled my subscription when they made the copilot plan the default and switched me to it without asking. I’m now selfhosting nextcloud and using libreoffice.

Wasn’t there a report a week or two back saying that they cut their internal sales targets by 50% because no one was using copilot? They must be desperate.
NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Hey there, laptop, looks like you’re going to be a linux machine now.
bandwidthcrisis@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Last year they announced a price increase to the 365 subscription along with adding copilot features.
It turned out that they had actually kept the non-copilot version at the original price as a hidden “legacy” subscription.
So they were just tricking people into paying for the copilot upgrade.
