That’s depressing. Thanks for sharing your knowledge so the rest of us don’t have to figure this out the hard way.
- Comment on Is there no good inexpensive CAD software? 2 days ago:
It just crashes on occasion.
Yeah you see, that’s kind of a deal breaker.

I absolutely looove SolidWorks! But I have moved to linux and am hoping to find something like it without resorting to wine or some such.

A lot of bold claims as to what this spyware can do. I don’t see how it’s possible without physical access to the device and also rooting it. Maybe they’re talking about iPhones though, I have no idea. Someone smarter than me please speculate how this shit is possible.

I’ve seen some that have a bot that goes along a rail and cleans the panels. The bot itself with it’s own solar panel.
- Comment on Backup/Server Options - is Syncthing / Nextcloud really the go? 1 week ago:
I second smbsync2 for phone backup. It’s very customizable and once setup, just works.
I also use syncthing but only for syncing files I want to be the same on all devices. FreeTube watch history and subscriptions, stuff like that.

Alternatively, you can use an app like Voyager which has a getting feature.
It’s easy knowing not to bother engaging with someone who has “Asshole” next to their name in red.
- Comment on Should you look for a relationship if it feels like a compromise? 1 week ago:
I’m in the same boat. Being someone’s entire universe is horrible. From now on I require a partner to be passionate about at least two hobbies and have some damn friends!
As for OP, poly/open relationships are a thing.

I don’t trust Microsoft not to flip that switch back when I’m not looking.

The domain I use professionally is simply my full name. Then I use a catch-all so I can give out a mailbox specific to who it’s for. Often that looks like YourCompany@MyName.com That way if I get spammed I know who to blame.

That’s a good point.

Who’s still being charged per SMS in 2025? Is that still a thing somewhere?
- Comment on Google will block sideloading of unverified Android apps starting next year 1 week ago:
If you’re making the switch anyway, get yourself a domain name from a separate company to run it through. That way in the future you can keep using your domain even if you switch mail/web-hosting providers.

A lot of people cry about banking apps not working on phones that have been rooted/degoogled/whatever. But seriously, just use their website. The app is usually just a front end for the site anyway.

I’m so glad I degoogled my phone already. Fuck Google!

This order will be ignored like everything else. And WTF is this 60 day deadline? The whole thing was constructed in a week! What a fucking joke of a country.
- Comment on Taylor Swift’s new album comes in cassette. Who is buying those? 2 weeks ago:
This reminds me of Kung Fury, which has a very 80’s/90’s aesthetic. They tried a variety of ways to filter the final movie to give it the right feel for the time period. Finally, unsatisfied with digital methods, they ended up running it through an actual VCR.
- Comment on TikTok Shop Sells Viral GPS Trackers Marketed to Stalkers 2 weeks ago:
Tictok shutdown for a week or however long it was. Then we see it’s CEO sitting alongside Trump, Zuck and the rest of the oligarchs at the inauguration. Shortly after, the service goes live again followed by user complaints about their feeds being different.
It’s not confirmed but the theory is that tictok is now feeding data to meta, or even running off their servers entirely, so that the US government has easy access to everything.
- Comment on TikTok Shop Sells Viral GPS Trackers Marketed to Stalkers 3 weeks ago:
Tik tok submitted to the US government (probably for a massive bribe) so it’s here to stay so long as people keep using it.
