Hell, nah. Pineapple and kiwi on pizza are the same category.

Needs more anchovies and pineapple.

Maybe some durian and Surströmming, too.

Now we’re talking.

Ate a quattro formagi bianca with figs, last week. It was delicious.

I am a dill pickle on pizza fan. Works well with red, but it really shines with olive oil, pesto, mozarella, some dill weed sprinkled over the cheese, then slice coins from the vlassic dills (or any crunchy salty pickle - not the sweet stuff. YUCK).

I’ve never eaten kiwi, so I don’t know what to say. I generally hate fruit. But the only one I do eat is pineapple but only on pizza.
yardratianSoma@lemmy.ca 6 months ago
If I had to describe what a kiwi tastes like, it’s somewhere between a lemon and a pineapple. More sour than a pineapple, but not so much so that you couldn’t eat it raw comfortably.
snooggums@piefed.world 6 months ago
I would expect the cooking process to sweeten up the kiwi, but that is just a guess.
ordnance_qf_17_pounder@reddthat.com 6 months ago
Genuinely I think this would be more enjoyable than pineapple on pizza. It’s not that I hate pineapple on pizza, I just hate pineapple in general.
Signtist@bookwyr.me 6 months ago
Yeah, I hate kiwis (the fruit), so I wouldn’t eat this, but I love pineapples on pizza, so I’d imagine it’d taste good for people who like kiwis.
klemptor@startrek.website 6 months ago
I absolutely would eat that.

I thought pickles would be the new controversy, but this raises thing to a new level.
snooggums@piefed.world 6 months ago
I've had a hamburger pizza that had hamburger, onions, pickles cooked on and then lettuce added after kind of like a taco pizza. The pickles worked well as part of the whole package, but would probably be overwhelming as a single topping.
hOrni@lemmy.world 6 months ago
Nah, man. Pickles are an established thing on pizza. At least in my parts of the world. Try a pizza with kielbasa, onions and pickles if You get the chance.
ccunning@lemmy.world 6 months ago
I mean pickled jalapeños are great (especially with pineapple) on pizza so it makes sense that something similar for folks that don’t like the heat would be tasty too

I love salami, capers and banana on a pizza, don’t judge if you haven’t tried it!
snooggums@piefed.world 6 months ago
I will absolutely judge anything before I try it. A best guess before trying is perfectly fine as long as it is updated after trying.
My experience with trying brussel sprouts as a kid was that they were terrible, just mushy and bland. As an adult I had roasted and properly seasoned brussel sprouts that were fantastic. It is important to be able to judge before, after, and revise based on new knowledge!
In this case I have had sweet fruit on pizza and my judgement is that I would probably like kiwi fresh, but not as leftovers.
Sonotsugipaa@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 months ago
Idk about banana and capers, but salami is a somewhat standard pizza topping

Controversial but I can’t help but be curious…
logicbomb@lemmy.world 6 months ago
Yeah, I have no problems if you honestly give something a try and don’t like it. But the people who judge without trying are acting like small children. I’m not sure why anybody gives their uninformed opinions the time of day.
unmagical@lemmy.ml 6 months ago
Would
ccunning@lemmy.world 6 months ago
I’d try it…
TheRealKuni@piefed.social 6 months ago
Yeah seriously, kiwi is fantastic, pizza is fantastic, kiwi on pizza? Probably fantastic. If it’s like pineapple it’ll caramelize when it cooks.

I will find you. When I find you I am going to torture you until you cannot handle it anymore. And when you cannot handle it anymore you will die. But when you die you will not relax, because I will be there with you.

I’m a huge fan of sweet and savoury in the same dish. Pineapple on pizza is great, but there are a lot of dishes from South-Asia that combine unique flavours. One of my favourites is rice with a yellow curry sauce with raisins and peach slices on the side. There can even be nuts in the rice to mix it up some.
People need to step outside of their food comfort zone and try out different things.

Sweet and Sour Pork
Lemon Chicken Rice
etc.
TheRealKuni@piefed.social 6 months ago
I agree! My rule is, generally, if someone likes it there’s something about it worth liking. I can’t always find that thing (sometimes for genetic reasons, like cilantro and, I suspect, very hoppy beers), but I’m always willing to try.
This isn’t only true of food, by the way. Music is another place this is true. If you can find why people appreciate a type of music, you can usually learn to appreciate it even if you didn’t at first.
