I mean, I’m not going to spend time trying to duplicate their results, but it wouldn’t even slightly surprise me. Cops have been using ChatGPT to streamline their bullshit cop-lingo incident reports, to the extent that it’s caught the notice of lawyers and judges… 100% I believe that the dolts who shit out Trump’s tariff rates used it too.

What the Hell was the name of the movie with Tom Cruise where the protagonist’s friend was dating a fucking hologram?
We’re a hair’s-breadth from that bullshit, and TBH I think that if falling in love with a computer program becomes the new defacto normal, I’m going to completely alienate myself by making fun of those wretched chodes non-stop.
- Comment on Trump threatens 'far larger' tariffs if EU and Canada unite to do 'economic harm' to the U.S. 1 week ago:
Let’s be real, whether or not he increases tariffs or not, Canada & the European Union can’t afford to buckle to negotiation bluffs. He wants to have his cake and eat theirs too, there’s no disadvantage to unity at this point, given that he likely wouldn’t honour any concessions granted by the United States. CANZUK is likely inevitable at this point, strictly as a matter of economic and trade stability.
- Comment on After 50 million miles, Waymos crash a lot less than human drivers 1 week ago:
The meat of the true issue right here. Journalism and investigative journalism aren’t just dead, their corpses has been feeding a palm tree like a pod of beached whales for decades. It’s a bizarre state of affairs to read news coverage and come out the other side less informed, without reading literal disinformation. It somehow seems so much worse that they’re not just off-target, but that they don’t even understand why or how they’re fucking it up.

- Comment on Truly some geniuses in the Trump administration 1 week ago:
Now that’s something altogether different. I’ve heard it said before, but haven’t seen any really detailed report about it. If true, I want to know more, is there any source to the allegations? It’s plausible, absolutely, and if true would lend credence to accusations of Russian interference in the U.S. elections using Trump as an asset.

- Comment on Truly some geniuses in the Trump administration 1 week ago:
I’d argue that a cretin is the best type of fascist to have as an opponent. Nobody really wants to square off against some Machiavellian genius if at all possible, right?
That repulsive orange dolt is so inept that I keep expecting to hear that he slipped and broke his skull on one of those golden toilets of his. Even his own allies don’t really like him, this situation is like some kind of delirious stage farce with an antagonist who has no redeeming qualities. If shit hits the fan, he’ll have already insulted or impugned every single person to whom he might have called on for aid, and they’ll all want to out-maneuver him instead for all of the indignities and insults he’s doled out.
- Comment on Mastodon.online invitation if anyone wants it 1 week ago:
The Mastadon link is a revelation, I haven’t seen any duplication of content, but TBH I haven’t invested a fraction of the time there as here. The Federation is a great idea, although it’s going to take a little while for me to wrap my head around all of the ins and outs of the patchwork framing.

It sounds as though there’s a lot more to these new setups than I had initially thought, this might take a bit of reading just to pin down the basics. Thanks for the detailed response, much appreciated, those links are going to come in handy.

- Comment on Mastodon.online invitation if anyone wants it 1 week ago:
Quick question for you. I signed up to Mastadon a while back, have been endeavouring to use it more regularly, and have been trying to sign on to as many local or often-subscribed orgs (on other media platforms). What I’m finding is that remarkably few of them are on Mastadon, and often those that are have been using them as a kind of alt-Twitter content splash with little engagement.
Are the actual active profiles/communities sort of walling themselves off from bots and bad actors in the way that you’re describing? Invite-only groups whose activity isn’t seen by non-members, or even accessible when searching for related tags/topics? Have I been casting about looking for content like someone looking for people in a neighbourhood where everyone is inside with the curtains drawn, or is there actually low engagement on Mastadon overall?
