Had never heard of Powder before, but it looks like a well-crafted submission despite its minor differences from Nethack. Might have to check back in with it when I have more time.

If Final Fantasy and other older games can have submenus and the ability to select individual characters to name objects, so can ports of old games on new systems.

That’s going to continue being a problem for the foreseeable future, apparently the phama companies rein in distribution (thereby creating shortages) in order to avoid having more pervasive “empty shelf” shortages somehow. I’m not on the inside track of exact details, but first heard about it during COVID when they were able to blame it on “distribution & manufacturing shortfalls”, and people were coming up short on stuff like ADD/psychiatric/pain medication.

If anyone has direct access to the developers, could you ask them to release an version of Nethack? I swear to God, I never get tired of getting massacred in that game (or dying from falling off my horse, down stairs, etc.).

This too, especially the way that a lot of retail has started to graft pharmacies onto their stores.

Not quite like window shopping in a department store per se, but essentially the same if I can’t find what I was looking for and search for alternatives on the way out. I’ve gotten weird looks sometimes when this happens, including cases where I’m asked for a receipt. “You didn’t have what I was looking for” or “What receipt? I didn’t buy anything” seem to satisfy staff inasmuch as I’m not a tiny person and aren’t inclined to take shit from rent-a-cop security or management - just try to detain me, I’m not waiting for the cops, I’m dealing with it first hand right away.

Beat me to this response by an hour. Who the fuck do they think they are, right? What if I can’t find what I’m looking for, or was just browsing?

Real talk; if someone who knows these supervillain-level lunatics could do the entire planet a solid and break their arms, I’d really appreciate it.

I’ll be damned, I’ve been reading about the tendrils of this scheme for decades. What’s the skinny on its main organizers, are they explicitly identified as members of any particular named groups in a more specific than general way?

Same, that shit was hilarious (pun intended).

1972 biz roundtable plot
I’d appreciate some illumination on this point, having never heard anything about any specific business reorganization in '72? America specifically, or was there some kind of global shift that I’m not recalling?

Glad to hear that you made it out the other side as well, I’m worried about contemporaries stuck eating shit, or worse living back at home with Boomer parents eating shit.

Solid suggestion, I got four downvotes with the picture of the gigantic log, and 25 upvotes after editing lol

Have you heard the expression ‘pulling the ladder up after themselves’ in relation to Booomers, and the housing/labour market?

Lived experience and/or delusion. Many can’t seem to absorb that the labour market didn’t stop changing in 19-fucking-73, and it shows.
I couldn’t believe how dogshit so much of their advice was the last time I was searching for new work, and how irate they were that I wouldn’t take it - because it was useless and/or hazardous to my financial stability in the situation at hand. That coffee drinks-avocado toast shit seemed like satire at first, but some of them actually believe it, and had I been spineless/stupid enough to allow them to push me into the courses of action they were insisting on I think that it might have killed me.

Well said. Much of the overzealous action by LEOs seen since the ICE immigration operation kicked off is notably similar to that seen during the Civil Rights era in the U.S. They can run people down in the street, club the everloving shit out of them, break their wrists and shoulders during arrest, and kick their feet up at home later that night without a thought of concern about catching charges.
The manner in which demonstrators have been engaged strikes a similar chord to that same mid-century era, where hippies/beatniks/peaceniks could be fucked up and railroaded any number of ways without a hint of worry about blowback (unless their parents were loaded, of course). Nothing meaningful will happen to make them scale back their abuses, legal or otherwise, maybe not even once Democrats are back in office.

Watching in realtime, over the years, friends, acquaintances and strangers learn the exact same lesson. Retail is shit, its management is shit, the corporations overseeing the operations and staffing are shit, the work culture is shit, and nearly everyone working there is seeking an exit plan to better work without the non-stop bullshit, lies, and in-fighting/sabotage.
The span of time in which new fires eventually realize that they’re being denied 40 hrs./week as a strategy to withhold benefits afforded to persons working what’s normally ostensibly legally considered full-time. Imagine having a middle-manager cut 1 hour from your schedule right before the pay period where you would finally have qualified, then trying to play friendly as through they hadn’t kicked you in the back of the knees on behalf of the company’s bottom line.
