This brings to mind the highly underrated movie Stuart Saves His Family. Surviving toxic people is hard, but it’s even harder for anyone with anxiety disorders.

My father must have written this post from the pinewood box he’s in.

These tips actually work for most loved ones.

Hey, it’s a list of my ex husbands favorite tips and tricks!
Did you know that “square breathing” exercises are not helpful when someone’s yelling at you to do them?
daggermoon@lemmy.world 11 months ago
I’m sorry to hear about your bastard ex husband. The only thing that’s really helped my anxiety is drugs. I’m guessing you’ve tried that though. Square breathing never really worked for me. Hope things are better now.

I don’t mind pacing. Partly as I do it

Anything you say, do, or express interest in, can and will be used against you.
raod_guitar@feddit.org 1 year ago
Never tell them what you want. Only be passive aggressively pissed off when they don’t do it.

I had to check the sub. I was loading the proverbial shotgun. You got me OP. :)

Have you ever tried gaslighting someone?
That shit isn’t as easy as they make it sound.
Carrot@lemmy.today 11 months ago
Gaslighting? I’m pretty sure the term you’re looking for is gaslamping. Don’t worry, it’s a pretty common mistake for people to make.
KillingTimeItself@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 months ago
are you sure it’s gaslamping? last i heard gaslamping is a term for when you start making random shit into gas lamps for no particular reason, seems to be a weird anomalous quality of certain post industrialized human societies.
Siegfried@lemmy.world 11 months ago
Oh my god! I can’t believe OP mistook gaslighting for gaslamping… I thought that that was one of those mistakes nobody does anymore.
OmegaLemmy@discuss.online 1 year ago
Nearly everyone gets gaslit if you try, what do you mean?
Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 1 year ago
peregrin5@lemm.ee 1 year ago
That’s because the real term is gas-lamping, not gas-lighting. The term was invented around the Victorian period where the primary source of lighting were gas-lamps.
AFaithfulNihilist@lemmy.world 1 year ago
that shit isn’t as easy as they make it sound.
Yeah it is. You must be remembering it wrong.
raoulduke85@lemm.ee 1 year ago
I get annoyed when my wife uses that term every time I disagree with her.
CidVicious@sh.itjust.works 1 year ago
The secret is persistence.
King3d@lemmy.world 1 year ago
There’s no such thing as gaslighting. Your making it up because your paranoid that everyone’s out to get you.
lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 year ago
Are you gaslighting me into thinking no one is ever gone gaslight me so it’s easier for your co conspirator to gaslight me in the future? I’m not making things up! People are up against me and your comment is proof!
Tai@lemm.ee 1 year ago
What are you talking about? It’s super easy you idiot.

“Pace around for no fucking reason” this sounds hilarious, it would even irritate people without anxiety.
Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 year ago
For me, its not that it would be irritating, but rather spike my anxiety and makee very uncomfortable, a feeling of being unsafe moreso than irratation
Xanthrax@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I have ADD, and my partner has GAD. I always feel bad about the pacing. 90% of the time, I’ve lost my train of thought/ something. I noticed if I say, "I’m fine; I’m just looking for something."It helps a lot.
buddascrayon@lemmy.world 11 months ago
I could be wrong but I think the pacing referred to in this post is a physical manifestation of impatience.

Yuyarl@sh.itjust.works 1 year ago
I know many people who handled it just fine, it must be a you problem. You probably misunderstood them most of the time. I’m sure they just wanted the best for you. A friend of mine handled it just fine and turned out a better person than most. Really, you must be overreacting to something that was probably just discipline. Surely, they wished the best for you and tried to build your character.

*How to love someone with anxiety after going insane from carrying the entire mental load while they refuse to get help.
