It was potentially defamation when it was just women…talking to one another, too. This seems like a pretty solid case of men looking at something women do to protect each other, and saying “…but what about the men who could be negatively affected in some cases?” I also think the tone in which this is being discussed is pretty revealing about Lemmy’s demographics.

I mean, yes, but does that take priority over women who are worried about their safety? There’s been women doing this over local Facebook groups for a long time. Defamation of this sort is not a new issue.

Long time google assistant user, but them putting Gemini in it is what I’m afraid of, not the solution.
This is yet another “google released a product, didn’t know what to do with it, and made zero updates over the last decade, so now they’re killing it.” I don’t think they’ve ever fixed the bugs that existed the first day I bought mine. The speaker is handy for casting to, but also cast is a shitty non-open protocol.
Kinda just agree with the “everything in this space sucks” unfortunately.

Perhaps, but in my mind a haircut is a service you pay for. You go somewhere for a haircut, you cut your hair at home.

Makes sense. Outside of people who get unibrows, it really would not have been typical for guys to do eyebrow maintenance when I was growing up. Not sure if that’s changed now…younger guys seem more into fashion and grooming these days in general.

That whole survival crafting genre seems very hit or miss to me, and I’ve noticed that people liking one game in the genre is a very poor predictor of whether they’ll like another one. Subnautica, Don’t Starve, Minecraft, and Ark are all theoretically the same genre but very different games.

I did not find it that difficult, but there was a lot of up front homework to make sure you had a compatible hardware configuration due to needing hardware which was supported by the limited number of Mac configurations. I recall running into a problem where I wasn’t getting a picture on my monitor and I could not figure out why since my video card was supported and the drivers were ok. The problem as it turned out? I had my monitor connected via DVI and macs had never supported DVI so there were no drivers. Once the install was done, it pretty much Just Worked. Linux installs are pretty easy these days but debugging problems can be very difficult. The hard part of the hackintosh was keeping up with upgrades, since they needed to be done manually (due to potentially breaking things).

I do think that bluesky has a ton of momentum right now and is a viable alternative. But the thing about microblogging sites is that if the specific people you want to follow aren’t on them, there’s not really a substitute. I know I’ve heard people say that, for example, a lot of japanese game developers are still primarily on twitter (I’ve never been a twitter/bsky enjoyer so I can speak to it personally).

Abandoned mine several years ago. Kind of a shame, they were a good option for a while for people who weren’t windows fans but didn’t want to run linux full time. Apple just doesn’t really have any offerings for people who want a desktop that’s upgradeable, but don’t want to drop the money on a Mac Pro.

I’d love to see another more standard turn based FF, but people also have to realize that the last pure turn based game was X in 2001. FF changing shit with every game is what FF does.

Also alt.adjective.noun.verb.verb.verb was a pretty common name for, uh, shitposting newsgroups. Whatever we called shitposting back then, I can’t remember.

They’re pretty common on raw denim, especially if it’s unsanforized (i.e. not preshrunk). It’s basically because when jeans stretch and shrink zippers look o weird (that weird zipper boner look). I dont think they’re any less convenient than a zipper once they’re broken in and you’re used to them.
- Comment on What are your favorite Tactical RPGs? 1 month ago:
I like the disgaea series not only because of the deep systems involved, but also just because gameplay is so snappy. So many SRPGs are slow as molasses in terms of interface. I also really enjoyed Unicorn Overlord recently.
- Comment on "Can i ask you for a favor?" Is it rude to say no? 1 month ago:
It also sounds like they targeted you specifically while you were waiting in line. So not only did they only approach you about it when they could’ve asked anybody, they approached you in a place where it’s hard for you to just walk away. That’s sus to me, I think your instincts were right to not give them an in.
- Comment on "Can i ask you for a favor?" Is it rude to say no? 1 month ago:
Bit rude, yeah, but sometimes it’s better to be rude than let someone cross your boundaries. How much more awkward is it if you say “yes” or “maybe” and then they ask if they can borrow your phone or something and you have to evaluate whether you trust this random person while they’re looking right at you? A lot of people are definitely asking this way because it gets you to let your guard down and they know you would’ve said no if they’d just straight asked. Personally I tend to respond with “you can ask” or something like that. Making it pretty clear that I’m skeptical of what they’re going to ask. But my default assumption of other people in a city is that they’re potentially either trying to scam me or rob me.

As a regular Costco shopper, no a pack like that wouldn’t be anywhere near that much, and no that many won’t last nearly as long as you think. Perhaps this isn’t USD though.
- Comment on Special sampling opportunity 1 month ago:
I don’t think Costco ever jacked up the prices like that, it was just unavailable for a long time.
