I’d never heard of the stooges until a few minutes ago. The stooges wiki mentions them as the father of punk rock, which i can see. But, i don’t think their music aged that well.
When your drug recovery plan involves moving with Iggy Pop

This would be an excellent post for unpopular opinions
NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
It’s nostalgia if you enjoy them. Every one is entitled to their opinion. I didn’t grow up with them, and the sound, especially the instrument mixing is meh to me. You’re allowed to have a different opinion and that’s fine.
Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
I agree with both of your opinions
nullspace@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
So they were roommates?
atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
Fun fact: Iggy Pop also kidnapped Quark’s mom.
zwerg@feddit.org 2 weeks ago
It worked, though, so it’s hard to knock it. I thought Bowie was already clean, though?
zwerg@feddit.org 2 weeks ago
When he went to Berlin, not…oh, fuck it, my English sucks apparently.
Zorque@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
No, it doesn’t, people on the internet just like to be dicks for their own amusement.
🤡 < me
Zorque@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Well he certainly hasnt taken drugs for at least a decade.
alibloke@feddit.uk 2 weeks ago

djdarren@piefed.social 2 weeks ago I still find it wild that Bowie, Iggy and Lou Reed all hung out together, and it’s fucking Iggy that’s still with us.
MeatPilot@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
I think the only difference was Iggy didn’t wear shirts often. So it must have been chemicals in their clothes.
WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
It’s like how Captain Kirk is only able to reach full strength when his shirt is ripped.

Bowie’s problems at the time were with cocaine, which LA was awash in. West Berlin was more a heroin town.
sangriaferret@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
Heroin was Iggy’s drug of choice though.
zwerg@feddit.org 2 weeks ago
OK… But H is worse…
Actionschnils@feddit.org 2 weeks ago
I would call cocain and crack the worst of them all for society. All Addicts I knew, who totally lost controll about their consume & life, always called out Cocain as pure evil. So for example, they used other drugs, even heroine, to control the cocaine indused crave for more cocaine. Even before they were addicts And under the influence of cocaine they did a lot of evil stuff, like manic violence against people. With heroine they “just” lay around.
Edit: I have tried either. So its just Media and personal information by others. So i cant tell something valid(?)

I think it was more the fact that Bowie knew all the dealers in LA and would have a mountain of whatever kind of drugs he wanted in front of him in less than five minutes if he had a craving there but he didn’t have that kind of connect in Berlin
Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
I see nothing that could possibly go wrong with that plan.
Vitaly_Chernobyl@sopuli.xyz 2 weeks ago Not to mention the 3 banger “Berlin Trilogy” Bowie albums made during this period.
Low, “Heroes”, & Lodger

Fun fact, during this era Bowie worked with Iggy to make Iggy’s first solo album, which became a hit, with the iconic song “Passenger” and, lyrics largely improvised on the fly in the studio. They made the album in a little over a week, well under the time budgeted for, and split the leftover money the label had given them. Read about it here: https://norselandsrock.com/the-passenger-iggy-pop/

Not quite accurate - they made Iggys first solo album, The Idiot, during this period, which is a fantastic album but a) basically just a Bowie album with Iggy doing all of the singing b) had no big hits. Bowie basically wrote that album and his own (Low) at the same time, but then decided touring with Iggy would be more fun, so he didn’t do a tour for Low and just started gigging with Iggy as his keyboard player.
During those live shows they came up with a bunch of ideas that they then whipped into Iggy’s second album, Lust for Life, with only a little only a week of studio time, and that second album became the biggest hit of Iggy’s career (because it turns out the computerized alien funk that Bowie made in a studio didn’t work great for Iggy, but putting him in front of a kickass rock band and just letting them burn the house down worked great).

I sure hope they didn’t spend it all on drugs…
CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
You kidding? Those drugs created some of the greatest, most iconic music of all time, Hell, we should be thanking drugs
Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Nah, such fine upstanding young men would never do that.

Let’s go to the Frankfurt train station instead. Nothing bad has ever happened there!

Pfft, I’ll raise you one Nünrberg Hbf.

When I was a kid in school, my teacher made the class watch Christiane F. – Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo.
I still don’t like the thought of needles.. Or Berlin for that matter.
