  Luckey's sister, Ginger Luckey, is married to former U.S. representative Matt Gaetz.

  In a 2024 interview, Luckey described himself as a "radical Zionist.

  Luckey created a VR headset art piece that kills its human user in real life when the user dies digitally in the video game, by means of several explosive charges affixed above the screen, on what appears to be a modified Meta Quest Pro, to aim the blast at the user's forebrain.

    I appreciate what he’s done for VR and retro gaming.

    He took money from a lot of donors, used that money to get patents for his company, then sold that company, including the patents, to Facebook (now Meta).

    I do not appreciate what he did there.

      I’m always suspicious of someone who starts off by trying to soften up the criticism and divert the topic off to something else entirely.

      Seems like PR team responding rather than an actual individual. But being as how people worship people these days, it’s a 50/50 between a shitty person and PR team.

      Well principles often do only matter when “convenient” which is why if you push people into extreme situations like poverty or war they may have to abandon conventional principles to survive

      But anyway, ideally you’d always want a state to be transparent and such but we probably all can recognize the practical realities of having to not share military details of a secret mission.

  Also retrogame scalpers and Nazis are close to a circle in comparison. Fascism and the myth of “games were better back then,” fall in an.extremely close relationship. This is why I keep in touch my proactives in the retrospaces, because finding a fascist is very likely suspect.

      They’re either poorly explaining or poorly understanding a well-known link between fascism and the overindulgence in nostalgia for bygone times. But not the nostalgia of “I loved the games I played as a kid” or “I think the industry has gone downhill since then”, and instead the more general and politicized “society/everything was better back then, remember what (((they))) took from you”. You’ll often see nazis posting video edits of late 90s to early 00s home video footage with massively overdone VHS filters of white people smiling and shit. What they don’t tell you is that the people making these videos weren’t even born then, and that’s the central flaw of the nostalgia-fascism pipeline that usually gets left out: it’s the strongest on people who weren’t actually alive yet.

      There can be some overlap with retrogame crowd because that nazi-nostalgia can take many forms, but this is usually from the easily-discernable “games are WOKE now, why can’t games be non-political like Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid” types. A subsection of nasally-voiced overweight 30-something nerds who are mad at the world because they can’t get a girlfriend. You can actually find a lot of them in the modretro subreddit soying out about how epic and based Palmer Luckey is for making the weapons-grade Game Boy that triggers the libs.
