“Failure is the mother of success”
Whenever my mom talks shit about me, I just use that phrase, to imply she’s worse than I am. xD it’s always funny every time.
I think I heard it being used in some TV show and I just copied it to my Lexicon ever since.

… and that without knowing it has been the motto of my life when it comes to working on things. I learn on my own (mostly because I was never able to afford higher education) and I just tinker with things and often, I will break things but it serves to help me in the future to figure out what not to do. And other times, it saves a lot of work because it made me realize that some problems aren’t so terrible and that they only needed a simple solution.
Failure is the best teacher, but the tutor price is usually expensive.
A few years ago I was in a position where I was seeing two shitty, manipulative people taking advantage of three of my friends in three different situations. My three friends had all been warned about the manipulators but still felt the need to be nice, diplomatic and caring towards them anyways.
I ended up spending a lot of time talking with my friends, pointing out bad behaviour and encouraging my friends to put their own interests first. I never blamed my friends for their behaviour and instead tried to give them the tools for identifying and dealing with their manipulators.
Eventually they all came to realize of just how awful those manipulators were and I made myself available for my friends to vent when the time came. It sucked having to watch my friends go through all those emotions in the end. They all were really hurt.
I do think I did the right thing. They felt hurt but they did more than just get over it. They all learned from those experiences. We don’t talk as much as we used to but when we do talk, I’m always happy to hear that they are still putting themselves first and not giving any manipulators their time.
I also got to learn from all of that because too had been dealing several manipulative people in my own life at that time. Teaching my friends helped reinforce what I had learned and the results made me feel more confident in my own life choices that I had made in the recent past.
I’m reminded of this: Everyone starts with a full sack of luck and an empty sack of experience. The trick is to fill the latter prior to running out of the former. Oh and the sacks are not necessarily the same size.

But only when you’re a good student.
I know a LOT of people who make the same mistakes and suffer from the same consequences again and again, without ever learning.

and it also depends on your family, personal wealth, inheritance and income bracket … because even with these credentials, it can lead you to higher political office

I remember reading a study awhile ago that was kind of shocking:
Most people when they make a mistake/s need someone/thing to show them why it was a poor decision and how to led to consequences.
Less people than that are able to learn from their mistakes on their own.
And the smallest group, people that just flat out never learn, even if everyone points it out to them.
