I'd sooner caution against gatekeeping.
Beware imposters...

It is an insane leap to call this gatekeeping when it’s actively making fun of gatekeeping. If the line ended with Odo/Quark, sure, but it doesn’t. The name is misspelled. Directly making fun of people who claim to be gatekeepers while knowing nothing about what they’re talking about.
Honytawk@lemmy.zip 1 year ago
Ensign, the joke still is about gatekeeping, so we are allowed to complain about anyone gatekeeping in this comment section.
Now go polish the phase inverters.

Agreed. I am very fond of star trek already and i am only 10 episodes into the original series. I believe it will take several months if not year before i get to know the characters in this picture.

Isn’t this Han Solo and Chewbacca?
orthen@feddit.de 1 year ago
No, this is Patrick (and perhaps Jonathan?)
thebardingreen@lemmy.starlightkel.xyz 1 year ago
No, I’m pretty sure it’s Malcolm Reynolds and Wash.

They deliberately misspelled Obi too.

Wait, the Doctor had an alien companion at some point? I’m a trekky through and through but I didn’t know that

He’s in the post already, with the big ears

Dr. Migleemo is the closest I’ve seen.

I’m just cracking up picturing Odo changing into an obo to spy on the local DS9 orchestra

I watched maybe 3-10 Startrek episodes, I didn’t see those or most of the people in the memes here.
Still I love this community

Should have or should’ve, not should of.
Honytawk@lemmy.zip 1 year ago
That is because there are many series with each their own characters.

I’m re-watching DS9 for the third time or something, but I’ve never seen anything released after Voyager except for the Abrams movie travesties. Am I still a Trekkie?
Honytawk@lemmy.zip 1 year ago
Even those that only played Star Trek Online can consider themselves trekkies.
We don’t gatekeep.
teft@startrek.website 1 year ago
I want to know these people who play STo but haven’t watched Star Trek. Mainly to study them.

Yes
possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 1 year ago
Noooo, you need to watch every episode pay for extra subscription services just to watch every new episode the day it is release.
Honestly anyone can get into star trek if they want to
MotoAsh@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Only like 1/4th of the new stuff even has half-decent writing. Only the last season of Picard and the Strange New Worlds or what ever are even good TVl,et alone “Star Trek”
I … guess what I’m saying is, you’re not missing much. Stange New Worlds is probably the closest to old trek. The other crap is drama before even plot.
FiskFisk33@startrek.website 1 year ago
I knownthis is a joke. But even in jokes, gatekeeping is bad.
Stamets@startrek.website 1 year ago
This isn’t gatekeeping. It is actively making fun of gatekeeping.
I have no idea how that managed to sail over so many peoples heads… The joke literally ends with Quark and Odos name misspelled.
bingbong@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 year ago
*Quack and Obo

If this risa mag has taught me anything is that I'm not current on Trek.
I grew up on re-runs of TOS and I've seen most of the movies but not much at all of DS9 and NG and other TV shows. And I'm not really sure I want to watch all that. Very much enjoying 3rd Rock from the Sun right now, tyvm.
NumbersCanBeFun@kbin.social 1 year ago
Same but for me it was TNG. I used to hate TOS as a kid because it was dated and looked fake. I watched it a few years ago and really loved the stories. I regret brushing past it.
DS9 and Voyager were also worth my time as well but nothing beats TNG. Nostalgia alone wins that hands down for me every time.
Rom@hexbear.net 1 year ago
I bet they wouldn’t even recognize the commander of the station Captain Netgear.
roofuskit@lemmy.world 1 year ago
The only fake trekkies are the ones complaining that newer Trek is too political or “woke.”
What show did they even watch?
RojoSanIchiban@lemmy.world 1 year ago
They’re not “too political” or “woke,” they’re written by terrible committees and the executive producers / show runners are hacks.
Lower Decks (and Prodigy, I’m told) excluded.
ummthatguy@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Strange New Worlds is fantastic and takes plenty of risks other shows don’t.
FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 year ago
The best Star Trek show is the one you like the most. If that’s Discovery, that’s fine. And if you don’t like the show, that’s also fine. But making an overall declaration that a show is terrible and tacitly expecting everyone to agree is not cool.
SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Wow, they’re just outing themselves
