They were all looking at their phones.

so was the person driving
and me, now

Most likely the school bus driver was on their phone as well. I’ve seen that shit so many times.
ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
I’m a school bus driver and my district bans the use of phones on the buses. I don’t say a fucking thing about it. It keeps the kids occupied and out of doing worse things on the bus, and it’s not like 15 minutes less screen time per day is going to make the slightest difference in their lives.

Once on the highway a kid made a lil heart at me with his hands from a bus window and I flipped him off and he and his friends lost their minds. It was hilarious.

Yeah but you’ll get money if you can fight it. At least, 2 years ago you wouldve. Things are a little worse now

All school buses these days have black out windows, like the one in the OP. Wild shit happened before the tint, like kids getting into literal fist fights when two buses stopped side by side at a red light.
LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
And kids in the back of the bus were always the wild rebels, “mooning” the cars behind them was not uncommon in the old days.
JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 2 weeks ago
Right? I remember thinking “Why did Rosa Parks want to sit at the front? The back of the bus is where all the cool people are!”
Dozzi92@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
I played lacrosse in middle school, and when we’d stop we’d try taking the caps from our Gatorades and rolling them on the windshield of cars next to us.
I can’t stand littering now, I do town cleanups, and maybe it’s my way of trying to undo my stupidity.

That sucks

I flipped off the toll gate attendant once in 4th grade when we were coming back from some event. Another kid on the bus narc’ed on me and I got detention. Would do again.
PS: I still flip off the automated toll readers. Fuck the system.

Lol my aunt used to have a job looking at those photos when people claimed this or that. She showed me some funny ones. That said I always do something obscene. Unlikely a human sees it anymore but if so I hope their day got a little better.

I know why: because the bus was empty. Education isn’t in favor nowadays.
Danarchy@lemmy.nz 2 weeks ago
Passed the sportsball team bus and no hams were pressed
StrongHorseWeakNeigh@piefed.social 2 weeks ago
Why would they even bother to flip you off? That just doesn’t make sense

Because fuck em lmao

How in the world did you have energy as a kid to flip off anyone? I barely had energy to walk to the bus.
Chippys_mittens@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
That doesn’t make any sense. You have more energy as a kid than any other time in your life by a massive margin.
tyler@programming.dev 2 weeks ago
What kids do you know have energy at 6 am?
LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Were you malnourished?
tyler@programming.dev 2 weeks ago
Kids weren’t meant to get up at 5:30 for school.
Sabin10@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Gen x and millennials know they were absolute terrors as children. We don’t want to deal with that shit so we’re raising our kids to be better than we were.
applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 weeks ago
If we were it was only because we were abused and neglected by our boomer parents.
elephantium@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
IDK about this. Today’s extreme focus on helicopter parenting seems to view “having room to play” as CPS-worthy neglect. Shouldn’t there be a middle ground?
VieuxQueb@lemmy.ca 2 weeks ago
I recently discovered a YouTuber channel called THE DADBOD VETERAN, and he explains very well the neglect of GenX from their parents. Just left to our own device.

They’re still shit. I bring my young kids to the park and around 430 the 12-15 year old kids roll in and are an absolute menace, like clockwork. Littering, cursing loudly, riding their bikes in between the play equipment.
I think there’s a certain age where shitheads will always be shitheads. They get this little taste of freedom that comes with adolescence and they go overboard. I think it is just a part of life.
I try to say to my kids, hey, you don’t like how they’re acting now right? Then don’t do it when you’re their age. We will see if that works.
Sabin10@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
My daughter is in high school now and the kids are still shitheads but no where near the degree we were in the 90s.
