That’s a good use of the Boeing money. I wouldn’t want them to spend it on quality control or anything.

- Comment on What's a good budget home server? 2 weeks ago:
Yep, I’m speaking in generalities. Overall, my point is that a homelab doesn’t need something expensive because it may not be heavily used, so most of those features are not necessary. If the guy had mentioned running a business or customers, that’s be a different story.
You even had to qualify your own statement that one has to modify hard drive power consumption to achieve acceptable noise levels.
I had a SIEM running on a mini-pc like a champ. It cost me fifteen bucks and taught me a lot. Build to requirement, not title.
- Comment on Deliver Us Mars developers lay off all staff but plan to 'rebuild brick by brick' 2 weeks ago:
That’s not how it works, unless you have a time machine. People move on to better things most of the time.
- Comment on What's a good budget home server? 2 weeks ago:
Bear in mind, a system that is built to be a dedicated server will be meant to crunch data. That means 2 things:
-
loud fans
-
heavy electricity use
If you just want a lab, I suggest getting a desktop PC and loading a server OS on it. Practical hardware experience isn’t too valuable because platforms change and they usually make them super simple to maintenance with lots of online support. Getting a desktop will also save you some bread on initial investment.

Those rapscallions! How can they disobey like that!?! It’s almost as if they are thumbing their noses at the powers that be! Unbelievable!
That being said, if you’re drawing national attention with your protest, you’re doing it right. Keep it up.

Building the infrastructure is a huge expense. A lot of that is getting paid when they start to break ground. That doesn’t mean things can’t fall through, but most of the time when land is purchased and they start building on it, things will complete.

- Comment on Google reshapes Fitbit in its image as users allege “planned obsolescence” 1 month ago:
I had a Fitbit Sense and really liked it, then made a terrible decision to go to the Google watch. I’ve been waiting for something to happen to it so that I can buy a new device (will be going Garmin), but my cheapness keeps me from upgrading solely from dissatisfaction. Man do I hate this thing, though.
