Why are we blaming discord users here?

While I don’t want to speculate, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the same thing that happened to MangaDex.
Th3D3k0y@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
For the longest time I keep trying to find a variety of sources to get comics in case this happened. but Comick always had the most issues. So I kept getting my issues from them, and now it happened
mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
My only issue with Comick is that they’d have a lot of duplicate chapters
PrincessKadath@ani.social 2 weeks ago
@wsj018@ani.social I pinned this since it’s quite important.
wjs018@ani.social 2 weeks ago
Thanks! I am primarily working in a lab today and haven’t really been able to stay plugged in.

Oh. I guess this isn’t a “wait it out” situation then.
An image with text and two buttons. The image says “This image couldn’t be loaded” The buttons say Retry and Open in WebView.braindamagebuddy@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
GG, can’t have anything nice around these places.
yetAnotherUser@lemmy.ca 2 weeks ago
I just started using it a week ago 🥲
Winter_Oven@piefed.social 2 weeks ago
Oh...
I...had quite a few comics...
Hm...speckledlemon@urusai.social 2 weeks ago
If you don’t use an app to read, it’s probably easier to switch to Kenmei.
PrincessKadath@ani.social 2 weeks ago
As far as I know, Kenmei is just a tracker?
aislopmukbang@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
kenmei nuts fit in your mouth? gottem
speckledlemon@urusai.social 2 weeks ago
It tracks progress but directly links to hosts, so you can read with it too, that’s actually the main feature.

Mihon and tachiyomi derivatives all have migration, I moved my whole library to other sources between Batoto, Weeb Central, and a few others.
fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 2 weeks ago
What other good options are there?
Keegen@lemmy.zip 2 weeks ago
I like weebcentral because they have RSS support, makes it very convenient to keep up with updates without needing to make yet another account on yet another site.
Here’s hoping it won’t become too popular or the axe might come for it next.
fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 2 weeks ago
Someone needs to make an archival torrent of as much manga as possible
DarkSirrush@lemmy.ca 2 weeks ago
Note that weebcentral has already rebranded more than once, so I personally can’t trust it as a stable source anymore
PrincessKadath@ani.social 2 weeks ago
You can read it here on their official Discord: discord.com/channels/…/1417491617736036432

this is, incredible.
You legit expect us to oust ourselves?
clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
Could you share an invite to the discord? I’d get it from their page but…

Gladaed@feddit.org 2 weeks ago
Was that a comic piracy website?
PrincessKadath@ani.social 2 weeks ago
Aggregator, but yes in the end.
clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
Can anyone recommend a tool for tracking which comics I’m reading, but which doesn’t host copyrighted material itself? I could host it myself if necessary.
I don’t want to lose my progress and reading history when the next site shuts down.
Ideally the tracker could link to some sources but that’s optional.
PrincessKadath@ani.social 2 weeks ago
Tracking in itself is not illegal, think of TVDB, AniList, and MAL. Someone suggested using Kenmei, apparently you can also put where you read each manga.
clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
I’ve never used any of those, thank you for the tips!
clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
Well dang. I guess there’s no way to export reading history or follows?

wut
Ganbat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 weeks ago
How is it that reading manga is one of the most unrealistic types of media these days? $20 for four chapters you can finish in an afternoon is impossible for a lot of people, and all other options are dropping like flies.
hypnicjerk@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
paying for digital manga is an absolute fucking scam.
it’s a shame that so many great series will never license physical copies in english.
ReluctantZen@feddit.nl 2 weeks ago
From services like Manga UP, totally.
But I think Manga Plus, which is a flat subscription fee, is fine. Buying volumes on e-book stores like Bookwalker, Kobo or Kindle completely fine too (Kobo is the nicest IMO).
Unboxious@ani.social 2 weeks ago
At least we can read stuff for free on the manga plus app, but pretty much anything that isn’t on that app is going to be expensive like you said. And what if I don’t want to read on mobile?
