Wait, so did episode 7 just air? If so, I will just make this be the thread for 6-7 and episode 8 should go like normal then.
- Comment on Manga 1 month ago:
Others in this thread are close to the truth when they say this is a light novel thing more than a manga thing. The reality is that this is a web novel thing, even before these stories become published light novels. I am going to quote an answer I wrote previously about this:
Long, specific titles have always been somewhat of a thing. For example, did you know that the novel we typically refer to as Robinson Crusoe, published in 1719, was originally titled thusly:
“The Life and Strange Surprizing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, of York, Mariner: Who lived Eight and Twenty Years, all alone in an un-inhabited Island on the Coast of America, near the Mouth of the Great River of Oroonoque; Having been cast on Shore by Shipwreck, wherein all the Men perished but himself. With An Account how he was at last as strangely deliver’d by Pyrates. Written by Himself.”
In modern light novels, the long titles come from the ease with which amateur writers can self publish to a website like syosetu. This causes tons and tons of stories within the same genre or content tags to be listed alongside each other. So, having a long, specific title helps your writing stand out by acting as a quick synopsis rather than having a website visitor click through and read the synopsis of hundreds of search results.
A lot of our modern light novels were originally self published as webnovels to these sites and have therefore inherited the long titles that helped them stand out on those sites. I just wish that the titles would be adapted and shortened as well as they transition from webnovel -> light novel -> manga -> anime. Some of them just keep the long title but pick up shorter nicknames since the Japanese language is so prone to portmanteaus (konosuba, danmachi, arifureta, etc.).

Here’s the query I make to help build rikka’s table of upcoming episodes. So, the info is there, I just need to add some logic to consolidate episodes close together in time.

It’s going to have to be something like that. The API can be inconsistent in how batch releases are handled. Most often in the past, it would just list the first episode with a release time and just not have one for subsequent episodes. This is the easiest for me to handle because I am just adding on additional episodes as needed manually. Lately, the API has started listing all the episodes with sequential airing times, meaning rikka makes a new post for each one.
So, if that is how the API is going to handle them going forward, I think I am going to have to build some kind of logic to merge episode threads that are within 24 hours or something like that.

Fixed. I am going to have to figure out some better way to handle this I think. Batch releases are becoming more and more common in the beginning of the season.

Ah, yeah…something like an automated defense would make a lot of sense. We have seen several androids up to this point, so why not another?

OP has more than enough recommendations at this point and some of these discussion threads are wandering way off topic and getting nasty, so I will be locking this post.
To OP, feel free to make a new post when your kid is 7 if you need more recommendations! 😜

So, do we think this is mutant on mutant fighting, or is the thing those smaller mutants are attacking maybe a vehicle controlled by another person?

This was a super cute chapter.

I guess getting a doctorate in paleontology is kind of like becoming a Dino Doctor…
I am really interested to see how their relationship changes as Naruto’s departure closes in. They are each pursuing what they want to do, but by doing so it’s separating them. It’s the kjnd of real life, adult issue that isn’t explored often enough in manga (usually because everyone is just stuck in high school).

- Comment on OSHI NO KO Season 3 Season finale will be a 1 hour special 2 months ago:
After season 3, we are going to be almost exactly 3/4 the way through the manga, so you wouldn’t have much left and could probably knock it out super quick. I know the manga ending gets lots of shit from people, but I really don’t think it is half as bad as its reputation. When the final chapter came out, I wrote my thoughts about it at the time (spoiler warning).
That said, the anime has been an absolutely stellar adaptation; the kind that I could have only dreamed of. So, I don’t blame somebody for wanting to experience the anime blind, because it has been excellent from beginning to end.

Ah, you might be right about this. I hadn’t thought about them dropping support for the .ass sub format.
- Comment on Crunchyroll Users Report Use of Controversial 'Hard Subs' on Platform + New Video Player 2 months ago:
I think what is going on here is an anti-piracy measure. When subs are delivered in a separate stream in the browser, pirates with the proper tools can save them separately, making it easier to redistribute as a video file with a range of subtitle options. By hardcoding them, CR is basically making a prospective pirate’s redistribution life harder because they need to do a separate video for every sub language (or go to a different source).
I think the main thing that soft subs offers is that you can customize size/color options in the player. When they are hardsubs burned into the video, then you no longer have that ability.

Not as much as Campfire Cooking iirc. Extremely minor spoilers ahead:
Basic story structure
A pattern that happens a lot in what I read is that Rin is doing cooking/chill things at the RV while her companions are off doing adventuring things, and then she has a big feast when they get back incorporating ingredients that they went and adventured for. There are some moments when she gets mixed up in things, but it often happens off the page in the manga version.

I have read some of the manga (until it stopped getting updates on MD). It’s a very chill series, similar to something like Campfire Cooking. The main difference in this case is that her companions are an adventuring party instead of monster familiars.
- Comment on [Chapter] Akuma de Fukei! - Ch. 35 [END] 2 months ago:
I think this series ended up fine, but nothing more than that. I liked the two leads well enough, but I just don’t think there was enough of a cast or setting around them to make much more. Overall, a bit of a merciful end to a series that never really found its footing.
