- Comment on [Discussion] What high-school romance anime personally related to you the most (good or bad way)? 11 hours ago:
Mine is probably one that hasn’t been released yet, but I read the manga source, The Moon on a Rainy Night. The funny thing is that I found I related to it a ton, but as an adult, it had nothing to do with the school setting. It deals with the issue of disability in a way that felt so real and it was easy to map onto my life’s experiences.
In general, the other thing I relate to often is transfer students. I went to more than 10 different schools through K-12 because my family moved…a lot. So I was almost always the transfer student, and almost always preparing to say goodbye. It made me really good at making new friends wherever I found myself, but it also made me really good at dropping friends from my life for little to no reason.

If you’ve never had the chance to see the milky way in an actually dark night sky (harder and harder to find these days), definitely try to rectify that. It lives up to the hype. It’s a bucket list item of mine to see the Southern Hemisphere’s night sky as well sometime.

I’m going to take this post down after getting a report that it is a rehost of the official release. Feel free to resubmit using the actual official release: mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1030500
I know mangaplus isn’t available in every region, so I apologize in advance if it isn’t in your region, but rehosted versions of the official release would cross too far into piracy territory for ani.social rules.

Loved the Lone Wolf switch-a-roo at the end there. I hope he shows up more in the future. Full steam ahead for the school festival now.

I read the first couple volumes of this manga and it gets wild…
ANN calls it a “romantic suspense manga” and that is closer to the truth. However, I feel like that is still underselling it. This series is basically suffering porn, and that is why I ultimately ended up dropping reading it. This visual is a huge misdirect and gives off the totally wrong impression.

- Comment on [Discussion] What are some anime whose demographics fans tend to get wrong? 4 days ago:
The genre that I most often see people mix up is CGDCT. A lot of casuals that I have talked to don’t realize that the target audience for these series is almost always either boys or men. Instead, they kind of lump these series in with stuff like Precure, which is aimed at girls. To prove the point, AniList only has 13 series that are shoujo and CGDCT, and a grand total of 0 that are josei.

I am continuing my trend of checking out new series I find. Some quick impressions:
- The Story of a Girl Who Can Read Minds as recommended by @Endmaker@ani.social - very silly series about a woman that can read minds finding her perfect match. Very silly and quick chapters. I doubt this one will be running super long due to a relatively thin premise, but I am enjoying it while it lasts.
- Bus For Two - I picked this up after @Rottcodd@ani.social posted about it. It is really good and I ended up bingeing the whole way up to the current chapter. Very wholesome romcom that reminds me of stuff like They are Still Being Shaken This Morning or The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses.
- When I Repaired a Gal’s Bicycle, She Became Attached to Me - I picked this up after a post by @goreverminski@lemmy.world and have enjoyed it. It does fall into the convenient trap of an MC having very selective memory…but they move past that pretty quick. It has been very cute and I am looking forward to more.
- A Very Popular Idol Classmate has Taken a Liking to Me, a Person Who doesn’t Want to Work for my Whole Life - You know this is a LN adaptation with a title like that. I have enjoyed my time with this series so far, abut am not sure about how much further this story is going to go. It kind of feels like the story hit a pretty natural peak, so I am kind of expecting the typical romcom shenanigans to come into play to drag things out from here.

The past couple weeks I watched a couple things that I can write about…
First up is Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi. I really liked the two anthology episodes that were part of season 1 and 3 of Star Wars Visions (especially the episode from season 1). So, getting the chance to get an eight episode season sounded great. The first couple episodes felt a little slow, but did a lot of work establishing things. Then, it delivered really well as the season went. Right as I was finishing it, Mother’s Basement released a video about the series, singing its praises. While I wouldn’t go as far as he does in his video, the series manages to feel pretty fresh with respect to its treatment of Jedi and the force. It is probably the most interesting depiction of Gray Jedi (neither pure dark or light) since the KOTOR games.
Next up is Toradora!. I am currently 8 episodes in and have been enjoying it a lot. I don’t have a ton to add here, but I think the thing that surprised me the most is how much I like Ami’s character. She seems like an easy to hate character, but there is something oddly compelling in how toxic she acts.
Last but not least, I watched Asobi Asobase. I didn’t really know what to expect when I started this series, but my initial thought based on visuals was maybe a CGDCT. However, I quickly realized I was mistaken as these girls are absolutely unhinged (in the best way). The humor feels similar to something like Nichijou, but a bit more restrained due to the smaller cast and scope of the setting. My absolute favorite sequence involved an android that they programmed to speak English using just the vocabulary of one of their grandfathers. I created a clip, but I must give an NSFW language warning: static.wjs018.xyz/iJ2rJ45DeIOD6zZA.webm

PO!
I love this series. It’s like if Bocchi decided to live by herself in Tokyo without any extroverted friends to help her.

The only example I can think of off the top of my head are the live action Rurouni Kenshin movies. In my opinion, they are excellent and the best way to consume the story.

I am partway through this series now and it is really good. Will definitely finish blasting through it in the next couple days. It is like a country version of “They are Still Being Shaken This Morning”, which is about two students who ride the train together to and from school. However, I do like how this series is a lot calmer overall, maybe partly due to the country setting perhaps…just less people/things going on around them.

Same thing with that series for me…a little while ago, I kind of switched to letting chapters for that series pile up and then knocking a batch out every now and then. I might still keep up that way out of morbid curiosity (especially since the chapters are so short), but my interest/excitement for the series is far from its peak.
I have kind of been pruning my library a lot lately as well, mostly series that I am dropping when I find that I just am not that interested in the latest chapter updates as they come. That is part of why I have been trying so many new series.

I spent a lot of time on trains this past week and decided to go fishing for some new series to pick up. Here are some that I found with a quick impression:
- It’s Not like I Like Haruno-san at All! - Really cute series with short chapters about an OL getting flustered around her cool senpai at work.
- Am I Actually the Strongest? - Pure isekai slop with a decent injection of magical girl shenanigans introduced through the little sister character. You probably already have a good guess whether you will like it or not just based on that.
- The Demon King’s Daughter Wants to Marry the Hero in a Political Marriage - The daughter of the demon king marries the human hero as a way to broker peace. She seems to genuinely loves him (due to backstory reasons we haven’t fully seen yet), but can she make him fall for her? Or, will the couple get broken up by the political forces at work in the human world? Think romance mixed with political drama in a fantasy setting.
- The Oppressed Princess Was a Reincarnated Legendary Magician - The greatest witch of all time gets reincarnated as a princess that was discarded due to her lack of magic. She then heads out to live her life freely…but keeps getting sucked back into the world of royals.
- Cat Magic Is Going to Revolutionize the World, Right? - This series just wrapped up after getting axed, but it was fun while it lasted. Think a pretty generic fantasy setting, but all of the main character’s magic is based on the different behaviors of cats.
- Stomping on the Blue - This one is a romcom for the subscribers of !animefeet@ani.social - so be forewarned that this one is for the foot lovers.
I probably won’t continue most of these (decided not to continue with some of them already), but it was fun to blast through the first volume or so of a bunch of series to kind of shake things up a bit.
