I prefer exciting moments (e.g. fight scenes) to have explosive music that hypes me up. Land of the Lustrous’ soundtracks for such moments are kinda chill. I can sense that they are going for the tense vibes, but I’d rather something hyped.
I think the soundtracks for slice-of-life moments (e.g. the ones that MentalEdge shared) are ok. However, I don’t pay as much attention - and hence give less weightage - to the SOL music.

Past Seasons
Watched / caught up to two anime last week.
The first was Poketoon.
WIP
The second was Land of the Lustrous.
I find the story intriguing; I was very curious about the events that led up to the story. Obviously there’s some kind of conspiracy, which makes its hook even stronger.
The fight scenes remind me of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, which I don’t see often (which makes it stands out in a way).
IMO it’s rather lackluster in the music department though. I barely noticed any soundtrack, and when I do, they don’t seem to fit the scene.
I find it a pity that the anime ended just as it was about to pop off. The way it ended makes it a prologue to the main story / arcs.
It doesn’t look like the rest of the story is getting adapted, so looks like I’ve got to pick up the manga.
8 / 10

I see the studio spent the one-week break cooking, because this was a 3 Michelin stars episode.
I (and most people probably) guessed the outcome of the race based on the ending of last episode, so I was more focused on the hype moments. And did they deliver with the hype moments.
Sucks for Tony Bin / Bianca to get injured, but I wonder if the sabbatical in Japan is what led to them siring future racehorses in Japan.
These non-Japanese horses add so much to the story. Cygames really got to adapt them in Umamusume.

Songs
From the shows I am following this season, nothing really stood out TBH.
Some parts of the following songs are kinda catchy, but they are not strong enough as a whole for me to add them to my playlist:
- Reincarnation (OP) from Hero Without a Class: Who Even Needs Skills?!
- Spurt Syndromer (OP) from Umamusume: Cinderella Gray - part 2
- Disguise (OP) from Gnosia
This Season
I picked up Hero Without a Class: Who Even Needs Skills?!. This is slop, but it is so entertaining.
Despite being slop, IMO the characters are not braindead. Characters behaved and reacted to the various situations with common sense for the most parts. I also like how it is not an isekai. Too many of such stories are needlessly isekai when they could have simply be fantasies like this one.
I don’t see it being a frontrunner this season, but it’s good enough for me to not drop it.
Past Seasons
I completed the rest of Yuru Camp season 1. It is pretty cute and comfy. Nothing is happening, since it leans hard into the slice-of-life, but the comedic moments are funny enough to keep my attention. I’d give it an 8 / 10

Looks like Japanese horseracing learnt from the likes this Japan Cup. The umamusume / horse who comes to mind for me when it comes to bodychecking others is Gentildonna.

Once Setsu started explaining the loops, I predicted that there would be a looping Gnosia. What I didn’t expect is the reveal of the twist so early on, with Setsu being the looping Gnosia.
Also, I wonder if the loop is tied to the Gnosia identity, or to the human identity. A looping Gnosia makes for a fun final boss for Yuri to face, but a looping human means that Yuri gets the chance to be Gnosia.
One last thing: what happens once they escape the loop? Would that be the final outcome? I guess Yuri has better vote the Gnosia out in his last run.

This has been a short but fun read. It’s full of funny moments. Even the last 2 chapters got a chuckle out of me.
I like this ending. I’m glad it ended while it’s still good instead of dragging on.

- Comment on [Discussion] What is your most 'comfy' anime? 2 weeks ago:
Most comfy for me would K-On, with The Demon Girl Next Door and Bofuri being strong contenders.
Another good comfy anime that others haven’t is 'Tis Time for Torture, Princess.
- Comment on [Discussion] What non-movie anime do you consider to be the "most-complete" in terms of execution from start to finish? 2 weeks ago:
What does it mean to be
“most complete” in terms of execution
?
I guess it’s not just about the story, otherwise there is no need to specify execution.
But it’s also not just one that’s only well-produced, right? Otherwise, you’d have specify that instead.

Past Seasons
I completed The Promised Neverland last week.
Now that I have watched it, I totally get the high praises for it. It’s without a doubt a 10 / 10.
Also, not sure if that was the intention, but it felt like one of its messages is to stop eating meat.
I guess the next step is to pick up the manga?
I am also halfway through Yuru Camp.
Nothing is happening, but I am somehow still enjoying it. I guess it’s because the girls - especially Nadeshiko - are cute.

starts with ship detecting 2 gnosias but later on there is no way of telling if there is one or two
ship not being able to tell who is an engineer but still give correct access
That’s why I find the ship itself most suspicious. Plenty of events appear to have been orchestrated by it.

Only now did the show reveal to us that participants can view the voting records. It makes Yuri’s fail from last episode that much worse.
Sucks for Yuri to have to repeat the loop despite winning, but with 9(?) episodes left, they’ve got to pad the runtime eh?
- Comment on Relatable. 3 weeks ago:
Understandable. I have dropped Steins;Gate before too.
Personally, I find that it only starts getting good in the second half (i.e. episode 13 and beyond).

Past Seasons
Zombieland Saga
I gave Zombieland Saga 4 episodes before dropping it. I thought the show is going expand upon the cast’s backstories (e.g. how and why they became zombies). Instead, all it did is have them dance and sing as idols - which I have no interest in. 6 / 10
Summer Time Rendering
I binged Summer Time Rendering over the weekend. I can see why The Summer Hikaru Died is getting compared to this. It felt more like a thriller than suspense anime though.
There were sufficient clues, and the development of the plot is standard enough to be predictable.
e.g.
Summer Time Rendering spoiler
I was able to guess that the head priest is the real antagonist / Shide. tbf he was giving off typical villain vibes. I was also able to predict this one since it is such a cliche: upon resolving the issue, the MC looped right back to the beginning of the show.
I found the way the story developed infuriating at times though. I can’t help but feel that if Shinpei made better decisions (or at least the decisions I would make), or is straight-up replaced by a smarter protagonist, he would not have needed so many loops.
I’d say the real MVP is Ushio. In fact, I noticed this trend of many time travel stories: the male protagonist can go so far only because of a female character.
e.g.
meta spoiler
Subaru has Rem in Re:Zero Rintarou has Kurisu in Steins;Gate
Regardless, this show is able to keep me hooked, and I’m sufficiently satisfied with the ending. 9 / 10
Steins;Gate
I have now watched up to the movie Load Region of Déjà Vu.
Honestly, this is more of a romance anime than time travel / suspense / thriller.
I think it made for a decent epilogue to the main series though. 8 / 10

The way this episode is setting it up, it’s easy to predict that:
- Obey Your Master is going to win the Japan Cup
- Tamamo Cross is going to get injured at some point - if not missing out on the Japan Cup, then the Arima Kinen

Then what was the purpose of you being asexual?
This little remark cracked me up
The identity of the Gnosia this loop is quite obvious from the beginning.
The moment SQ received only 2 of the 3 votes she was supposed to get in the first round of voting (1 from Yuri, 1 from Setsu, 1 from Jina), it’s clear that something was up.
We know that they cannot pick themselves during the voting phase, so Setsu couldn’t have possibly picked themself. Which means that Jina must have voted for Setsu despite claiming to vote for SQ.
That was the first alarm bell.
The moment Setsu went into cold sleep and the Gnosia-detector still got triggered, I would have immediately realised something was up. That was a big L on Yuri’s part.
The last big clue Yuri got was from Racio; they should have realised it by then. I facepalmed so hard when Yuri picked SQ again - despite all the warning flags in their face!

This Season
Now that all the first episodes of the seasonal anime that I am following have aired, I can sort-of compare them.
Umamusume: Cinderella Gray - part 2 - I heard that the upcoming arcs would be peak, and I can see it. They are certainly cooking with the first couple of episodes, setting up for the big races.
Gnosia - This is an anomaly but I found an early rival to Cinderella Gray as the anime-of-the-season. Out of the seasonal anime that I am following, it has the strongest first episode. We got trusted into the thick of things immediately, making it exciting from the get-go. I hope the rest of it continues to be as good.
Spy x Family - season 3 - Just like Cinderella Gray, the first two episodes are just intermissions to set-up for the best parts. I am confident it won’t disappoint.
Digimon Beatbreak - It is still retaining my interest at the moment. I hope it follows its current direction and delve deeper into the underlying conspiracy. If it ends up focusing on a bunch of pointless battles, that’s when I am going to drop it.
Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill - season 2 - This is my first drop of the season. Season 1 was a chill, slice-of-life isekai. Season 2 is more of the same. I think those who enjoyed season 1 greatly would continue to do so. In my case, I get bored of repetitive slice-of-life events eventually (like in I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level), so I am out.
Past Season
Mushishi
I completed the remainder of Mushishi. I find it to be a unique anime. I think it may be the first anime I’ve watched that blends supernatural and episodic slice-of-life. Emphasis on slice-of-life, because even though Rascal Does Not Dream Of… and …monogatari exist, those felt more like drama.
Overall, it’s a pretty great series. I would rate it an 8 / 10.
