I binged Gori-sen ~The type of PE teacher to die first during a panic~ last week. Thanks to @themachinestops @lemmy.dbzer0.com for bringing it up (though the tag is incorrect IMO)
It has the exact kind of humour that I look out for in gag manga. 10 / 10

I tried 2 episodes of Witch Watch and enjoyed it, so I’m continuing with it.
I’m also planning to give To Be Hero X a shot.

I’m glad - we got to see other members of Garden at last.
I wonder when the author would get WISE and Garden (and maybe the SSS) to fight each other. Perhaps that will be the main climax of the manga?

Here’s my 2 cents (it’s political, but politics is everywhere🤷):
You may want to take a look at The Narrow Corridor, or at least read the first few chapters.
One point that struck me was that you need someone with enough power to keep everyone else in check, like what @MentalEdge@ani.social does.
Otherwise, the more powerful players would simply oppress everyone else.
When it comes to examples,
off-topic; politics
you don’t even have to turn to history. Just look at what is going on in USA now. Without a strong government to keep the rich and powerful in check, they can simply bring the government under their control instead. Now, they have even more power to oppress weak players.
Ideally, you’d want to share power - usually through democracy - so that the people can prevent the state from going rogue, even after you are long gone. But if you do so prematurely, you may find yourself in the above situation.
I know ani.social is just an inconsequential weeb community, but these principles of governance applies here too.
IMO you and other mods are doing well. Until the time is right (perhaps when Lemmy becomes mainstream?), I’d say: just be a BDFL - Benevolent dictator for life

With all the shit going on in the world lately, I thought I better get some physical, English-translated copies of my favourite manga while they are still affordable. (Yeah we can read them for free on MangaDex, but I want to support the creators.)
Anyway, I’m happy to announce that I am the proud owner of this collection:
- all volumes of Sheep Princess in Wolf’s Clothing
- most volumes of The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You - volumes 3, 6, 7 and newer volumes are unavailable; volume 4 is arriving soon
- the first two volumes of Killer Shark in Another World - the rest are unavailable
I was hoping to get the following too:
- Turns Out My Dick was a Cute Girl
- I Became the World’s Strongest Witch: I Will Live Freely in a World Where Only I can Access the "Guide Site"
- Misaki-kun is Unobtainable
- Speedrunner Cannot Return from the Game World
- IseGure: After Constantly Being Used as a Foil for OP Isekai Protagonists, The Elite Knight Has Finally Had It
But there aren’t any English publishers who release physical copies for these manga.
Anyway, it’s time for a reread of my favourite comedy manga; the dopamine is exactly what I need.

Based on the 3 chapters released thus far, it is rather tropey. I will give it a few more chapters before deciding on whether to drop it or continue.

Past Seasons
I completed Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill over the past week.
It is pretty good for a “trash” isekai. Mukouda is a wimp but is still likeable. Sui is very cute.
It reminds me a little of Dungeon Meshi with its focus on cooking in a fantasy world.
I have got some non-serious nitpicks about the show:
- With how much Fel hunts, the ecosystem should be in shambles.
- They didn’t show us how the characters handle sanitation. With how much food they are eating and no proper toilets / latrine, they should have loads of faeces to let out (especially Fel). We don’t see Mukouda using his Online Shopping skill to deal with this issue.
- We hardly see Mukouda cooking using a campfire despite what the title says.
Season 2 was just announced and I’m looking forward to it.
This Season
The only new real show I’ve picked up so far is Gundam GQuuuuuuX. As is usual for Gundam, an explosive first episode does a good job of getting viewers hooked.
I’ll be monitoring everyone’s comments to see if there’s anything else worth picking up.
For now, I am eyeing Moonrise.

Practical applications for LLMs such as?
Translation and voice-to-text (and vice versa) applications to name a couple.
Personally, I have been using LLMs to help me code. They are not perfect, occasionally generating nonsense, and some are downright awful (looking at you, VSCode Copilot). But when they get it right, they saved me so much time.
I know LLMs are associated with tech oligarchs currently, but to downright dismiss all LLMs as useless is just unfair.

Past Seasons
I completed Beastars season 2 over the past week, and it still got me hooked as much as season 1.
However, there were a few points in the show that annoyed me enough to ruin my immersion.
Here are some snippets of my stream of thoughts as I was watching it:
Beastar season 2 episode 4 spoiler
Legosi bit a huge chunk out of his attacker. It should be very obvious who the attacker is because of his injury, or because he skipped school to hide his injury. Why don’t Legosi want to stay in school to find out?? Or at least tell a teacher!! Wtf. I hate it when serious characters lose their brains.
Beastar season 2 episode 5/6? spoiler
The anteater is an insectivore, making him a carnivore, but they are treating him like a herbivore??? Also, looks like some non-insect-eating carnivores would eat bugs occasionally, and they are real casual about it. Last I heard, non-vertebrates are animals too. What’s this discrimination???
Beastar season 2 episode 7/8? spoiler
WhyTF did Legosi and pretty boy not tell a teacher or any other responsible adult after they found out who the culprit was??!!
I know the show did address my complaints after the immediate episodes, but I found the way they did so unsatisfying.
The one that takes the cake was
Beastar season 2 episode 11? spoiler
the divine moth that appeared in Legosi’s dream to justify him taking insects lives. My mind was blown at the hypocrisy. Like no. Just no.
Despite my complaints, I still enjoyed it so, so much.
Plus, the opening song - Monster by Yoasobi - is a banger.
I am so looking forward to the final part / season to drop before starting on the next one.
Unfortunately, because of the annoyances, I will be docking a point from its final score, making it a 9 / 10 - for now; I may change my mind later.
This Season
I dropped I’ve Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years And Maxed Out My Level Season 2 after the first episode.
Looks like I have gotten bored of the chill, do-nothing slice-of-life genre.
Miscellaneous
With posts like this and the occasional recommendation thread popping up every now and then, I thought I’d group my favourite anime into broad categories / genres for easy recommendations.
I want each group to be mutually exclusive, so if an anime qualifies for more than one category, I would be the one that felt like it better represented (e.g. a romcom that is more com than rom would end up belonging to comedy)
I ended up noticing a few things about my taste:
- I enjoy suspense / thriller way more than I expected. If I out all the shows with suspense or thriller elements into one group, it covers half of the shows the I consider top tier.
- With only 2 entries, it turns out that I am not into romance, at least not for anime. I found it surprising as I read plenty of romcom manga. In hindsight, I’m probably in it for the comedy, not the romance.
In case you are curious, here are my lists:
- Peak Gundam (politics, war, mass tragedy, etc; yes I like it so much that it has its own category) - 7 entries
- Peak Comedy - 8 entries
- Peak Romance - 2 entries
- Peak Drama - 4 entries
- Peak Suspense - 9 entries
- Peak Thriller - 9 entries
- Peak Wholesomeness - 8 entries
- Peak Degeneracy - 3 entries

I didn’t start a discussion thread for Undead Unluck because I don’t think there’s a big enough fanbase here, but its epilogue was just released.
I thought the ending was very sweet,
Undead Unluck spoiler
even if it turned out to be a dream.
With all the lame, disappointing or controversial manga endings lately, a wholesome - albeit typical - ending is most welcomed.

- Comment on In your opinion, which anime has the most badass villains? 3 weeks ago:
Just to be clear, we are talking about villains in general? (i.e. they don’t have to be the antagonist)
In that case:
Saga of Tanya the Evil has got Tanya, who is not only extremely badass as a villainess, but also serves as the series’ protagonist.
Otherwise, my pick goes to Quinella from Sword Art Online: Alicization. She is evil but with cause (whether the cause is good is another debate).
Also,
mild SAO:Alice spoiler
she went down with style.
Honourable mention goes to Askeladd from Vinland Saga. I begrudgingly respect him despite his evil acts.
Also,
mild Vinland Saga spoiler
he went down swinging.
