Only now did the show reveal to us that participants can view the voting records. It makes Yuri’s fail from last episode that much worse.
Sucks for Yuri to have to repeat the loop despite winning, but with 9(?) episodes left, they’ve got to pad the runtime eh?

Understandable. I have dropped Steins;Gate before too.
Personally, I find that it only starts getting good in the second half (i.e. episode 13 and beyond).

Past Seasons
Zombieland Saga
I gave Zombieland Saga 4 episodes before dropping it. I thought the show is going expand upon the cast’s backstories (e.g. how and why they became zombies). Instead, all it did is have them dance and sing as idols - which I have no interest in. 6 / 10
Summer Time Rendering
I binged Summer Time Rendering over the weekend. I can see why The Summer Hikaru Died is getting compared to this. It felt more like a thriller than suspense anime though.
There were sufficient clues, and the development of the plot is standard enough to be predictable.
e.g.
Summer Time Rendering spoiler
I was able to guess that the head priest is the real antagonist / Shide. tbf he was giving off typical villain vibes. I was also able to predict this one since it is such a cliche: upon resolving the issue, the MC looped right back to the beginning of the show.
I found the way the story developed infuriating at times though. I can’t help but feel that if Shinpei made better decisions (or at least the decisions I would make), or is straight-up replaced by a smarter protagonist, he would not have needed so many loops.
I’d say the real MVP is Ushio. In fact, I noticed this trend of many time travel stories: the male protagonist can go so far only because of a female character.
e.g.
meta spoiler
Subaru has Rem in Re:Zero Rintarou has Kurisu in Steins;Gate
Regardless, this show is able to keep me hooked, and I’m sufficiently satisfied with the ending. 9 / 10
Steins;Gate
I have now watched up to the movie Load Region of Déjà Vu.
Honestly, this is more of a romance anime than time travel / suspense / thriller.
I think it made for a decent epilogue to the main series though. 8 / 10

The way this episode is setting it up, it’s easy to predict that:
- Obey Your Master is going to win the Japan Cup
- Tamamo Cross is going to get injured at some point - if not missing out on the Japan Cup, then the Arima Kinen

- Comment on [Episode] Gnosia - Episode 2 discussion 1 week ago:
Then what was the purpose of you being asexual?
This little remark cracked me up
The identity of the Gnosia this loop is quite obvious from the beginning.
The moment SQ received only 2 of the 3 votes she was supposed to get in the first round of voting (1 from Yuri, 1 from Setsu, 1 from Jina), it’s clear that something was up.
We know that they cannot pick themselves during the voting phase, so Setsu couldn’t have possibly picked themself. Which means that Jina must have voted for Setsu despite claiming to vote for SQ.
That was the first alarm bell.
The moment Setsu went into cold sleep and the Gnosia-detector still got triggered, I would have immediately realised something was up. That was a big L on Yuri’s part.
The last big clue Yuri got was from Racio; they should have realised it by then. I facepalmed so hard when Yuri picked SQ again - despite all the warning flags in their face!

This Season
Now that all the first episodes of the seasonal anime that I am following have aired, I can sort-of compare them.
Umamusume: Cinderella Gray - part 2 - I heard that the upcoming arcs would be peak, and I can see it. They are certainly cooking with the first couple of episodes, setting up for the big races.
Gnosia - This is an anomaly but I found an early rival to Cinderella Gray as the anime-of-the-season. Out of the seasonal anime that I am following, it has the strongest first episode. We got trusted into the thick of things immediately, making it exciting from the get-go. I hope the rest of it continues to be as good.
Spy x Family - season 3 - Just like Cinderella Gray, the first two episodes are just intermissions to set-up for the best parts. I am confident it won’t disappoint.
Digimon Beatbreak - It is still retaining my interest at the moment. I hope it follows its current direction and delve deeper into the underlying conspiracy. If it ends up focusing on a bunch of pointless battles, that’s when I am going to drop it.
Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill - season 2 - This is my first drop of the season. Season 1 was a chill, slice-of-life isekai. Season 2 is more of the same. I think those who enjoyed season 1 greatly would continue to do so. In my case, I get bored of repetitive slice-of-life events eventually (like in I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level), so I am out.
Past Season
Mushishi
I completed the remainder of Mushishi. I find it to be a unique anime. I think it may be the first anime I’ve watched that blends supernatural and episodic slice-of-life. Emphasis on slice-of-life, because even though Rascal Does Not Dream Of… and …monogatari exist, those felt more like drama.
Overall, it’s a pretty great series. I would rate it an 8 / 10.
Steins;Gate

I picked up Tokyo KINOKO last week.
Thank you to everyone who discussed it enough to bring it to my attention.
I can see why it is being compared to Bocchi the One Punch Girl. Assuming it doesn’t flub its story, I won’t be surprised if
- it gets an anime adaptation relatively quickly
- it blows up in popularity
I am following it with great interest now.

what great anime’s are there that avoid any comedy?
+1 for Vinland Saga
I am still going through Steins;Gate so I shall reserve judgement on it.
I think most of the anime in these lists would suit your taste (if you see comedy among an anime’s genre, or it looks cute-sy, skip it):
Here’s a few war anime to save you a click:

Anyone knows the lyrics to the intro of the OP? I kept hearing it as “crash crash crash, crash out”.
IMO the anime done right by Take Yataka, portraying his genderbent self (trainer Nase Fumino) as such a chad.
They (the horses) are the true star of the racing world.
I did not expect the role reversal of Nase and Super Creek though. Though I did not play the game, I’ve followed it enough to know that Super Creek is the motherly figure. So I did not expect that Nase Fumino would be the one to take care of Super Creek instead of the other way round.
I was told there would be goo goo babies
(I also thought they would reference how Super Creek chose Take Yukata as his jockey by tugging on his sleeve IRL, but whatever.)
By the way, the flashback of Nase Fumino and Super Creek was peak scriptwriting (or storytelling, since it came from the manga?). Saying “I will turn you into Cinderella.” while putting her shoe on for her was just too good. (Also, so much reference to glass legs lol)
I will turn you into Cinderella.
I am an anime-only when it comes to Cinderella Gray (I did *not *check Oguri Cap’s and Super Creek’s race record), but I can guess that Super Creek defeated Oguri Cap at least once.
I don’t think Oguri Cap has the experience with long-distance race - which is what Super Creek specialises in - in the anime just yet. And I know that Take Yukata is so dominant as a jockey. So the odds are Super Creek would triumph over Oguri Cap once they race each other.

Somehow, this anime bears quite a few similarities to Gachiakuta.
Also, I like how much of a gremlin Gekkomon is.

Dang, I’m hooked. This is the kind of suspense premise I am into.
I have seen a few theories floating around. I particular like the one about how they are all Gnosia.
Whatever the twist, I find the ship’s computer - LeVi - suspicious. I won’t be surprised if it gets revealed to be the final, real antagonist.

Alright, this girlfriend is way more straightforward / normal than I expected. I got too used to all the subversion in this manga. (In a meta way, this ended up subverting expectation then?!)
Anyway, she reminds me of this meme:

I gave Gachiakuta a shot. It’s decent, but 6 episodes in, I don’t see how its story is different from most battle shounens. A predictable plot becomes boring to me, so I dropped it before it reached the point of boredom.
I am still continuing my watchthrough of Mushishi. I have completed season 2.
There’s finally someone who can truly be considered a “villain” / criminal:
Mushihi spoiler
the many generations of gardeners who maintain the Sakura tree. I’m surprised it took so long for someone to uncover their murders.
Also, I forgot to mention it last time, but it feels like Mushishi’s author got some inspiration from floaters.

I think this is one of the isekai characters who reveal that they are not from that world.
The other one I can recall off the top of my head is
spoiler for another series
Kazuma from Konosuba, pretty late in the novel.
It’s just so rare, and the fact that they came from another world is usually irrelevant to the plot, that the story could as well be a standard fantasy story.
So I like it when authors make the transmigration plot-relevant.

Sakura Chiyono O and Mejiro Arden at the gym
I don’t do benchpresses at the gym. Anyone knows / is able to guess how heavy those weights are?
Looks like Super Creek is being set-up to be a future rival. I bet next episode would have her beating Dicta Striker in the mile race.

I don’t remember seeing it in the manga. The second half corresponds to chapter 60.
