I don’t get it. Is this an Umamusume reference or something?

I got curious about the show’s voice actresses, and found out that Renako’s voice actress voiced Narita Top Road from Umamusume.
Banner: Renako is finally the one getting cucked?!

I picked up - and caught up to the latest episode of - Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express seeing as it is ending soon.
At 3 minutes long per episode, it was extremely easy to binge.
It’s been a fun watch, but it feels like it is going to end with a cliffhanger, and would need more seasons to cover the rest of the story.

Which is your favourite chapter?
Mine is the one that features the kittens’ toe beans (chapter 21).

Oof, no more updates on these kitties.
Though predictable, I love how wholesome the conclusion is.
This manga is unironically peak isekai.

and by episode 12/13 the tone shifts dramatically. That was the point where I started to actually feel invested.
I dropped it at episode 11. Looks like I’m picking it up again - after I run out of things to watch.

Spicy episode as usual… Only 2 more episodes left though.
Based on the current pacing, looks like this season will end with a wrap-up of Ajisai’s arc.
I’m guessing they will announce a second cour / season once this one ends. We haven’t even got to the blue hair girl yet.

I completed Bakemonogatari last week.
I found it way too similar to Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai (or perhaps the other way round since the Monogatari series got published first).
The themes are similar: supernatural phenomenons, suspense and coming-of-age. But what made the similarities stood out are the characters and their story arcs.
mild spoiler for Bakemonogatari and Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai
The protagonists of both series are seemingly normal dudes who are in fact carrying hidden burdens. They both saved girls afflicted with supernatural effects and ended up going out with each other thereafter, early in the series. Both girls are strong with a cold, logical exterior but are also very loving towards the protagonists in their own ways. After handling the first incident, the troubles continue. More girls continue to be affected and the MCs play the role of the knights in shining armour coming to their rescue. In either case, at least one of these girls is a junior of the protagonist. At least one girl cannot be seen by anyone but the protagonist. At least one of these girls would fall in love with the MC after the MC is already in a relationship, causing a supernatural phenomenon. Given how similar they have been, I won’t be surprised if there’s an arc involving Araragi Koyomi’s family. In fact, the potential trouble has been alluded to when Araragi was being avoidant of his family on Mother’s day.
My favourite arc is Mayoi Snail.
Bakemonogatari spoiler
There have been plenty of clues that something is up - such that one can make a fair guess at what’s going on - but the twist still felt so well-executed regardless.
Overall I rate Bakemonogatari one point lower than Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai - 8 / 10 because this protagonist exude too much loser aura even though there is no reason for him to.
This may be because of selective memory but it feels like male protagonists of older anime series tend to be on the denser, weaker side of things. I prefer the current era of protagonists who have more self-confidence.
- Comment on Anime with a high death count that's actually good? 1 week ago:
I find that such anime usually involves war and politics, and (could be my bias speaking) are usually targeted at more mature audiences (i.e. seinen).
Some that I can recommend are:

Renako is so real this episode.
I like that there’s a minimum of one kiss per episode, but the show has to up its game if it wants to beat Sakura Trick in terms of kiss rate.
Banner: will there be hand-holding?

That was anti-climatic. It’s obvious how the match is going to end, but I guess it’s the only way forward.
If this is a dating sim / visual novel, having Mai or Satsuki win would have been the way to go about their individual routes. However, Renako - being the true gamer that she is - is gunning for the true “happy” ending, harem route.

I watched Fruits Basket (2019) till episode 6 before dropping it.
It’s decent, but IMO it hasn’t stood out from typical romcoms (yet? perhaps it gets better later).
I don’t have much time, so even good (but not amazing) anime goes on the chopping block.

My anime and manga backlog has gotten crazy long due to being busy IRL😭
I just “cheat” by dropping them / pruning my lists.
The logic is that if I am not willing to make time for it, then it simply means that it failed to keep me hooked.
I ended up dropping a bunch of anime and manga that are pretty good (score of up to 7 / 10), but not amazing.
This way, my lists won’t ever become overwhelming.

+1 on the AoT and Makeine recommendations from @ReluctantZen@feddit.nl (haven’t watched the rest)
I tend to prefer shows that have a strong continuity between episodes, and that’ll grab you and make you binge the rest of the show (or at least the arc) in one go though.
I feel you my man. I love this kind of shows too.
Of anime that aired this decade, I think you may also like:
- 86 (started in 2021)
- Vinland Saga (season 1 aired in 2019; season 2 in 2023)
- Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song (aired 2021)
These anime starred high-schoolers as the main characters but you may like them anyway:
- Beastars (season 1 aired in 2019; the rest are more recent)
- Oshi no Ko (came out in 2023)
- Umamusume: Cinderella Gray

I completed the rest of Haikyu last week. It has got to be the most hype anime for me since Cinderella Gray.
The training arc was, to be expected, somewhat weaker and slower than the rest of it.
Haikyu mild spoiler; information shown in synopsis of later seasons
But once nationals got started, it was just as exciting as the prefecture qualifiers. One thing I didn’t expect is for them to keep winning the way they did. I thought they would lose at some point, then a timeskip occurs and the story continues with the younger members of the club finally achieving national championship.
