K-On is fucking great. Top tier slice of life and yeah, that episode hits very hard. Nothing of actual significance happen, all low stakes, but if it clicks (and it doesn’t for many), it’s so good.
You should watch more of Naoko Yamada’s directed works. Her tenure at Kyoto Animation is so incredibly good. KyoAni tends to be great most of the time, but her works over there were often a step above imo. My favourite probably being Liz And The Blue Bird, a spin off movie from the incredible Sound! Euphonium anime.

My currently reading list hasn’t been affected that much. Only a dozen or so no longer have any chapters. More don’t have older chapters, but that’s okay-ish for me (sucks for others that haven’t caught up though).
I haven’t checked my plan to read list in a while though, so I’m dreading that one.

Steins Gate is a notorious slow burn. Around eps 5-8 (it’s been a while, so I don’t exactly remember) it really got going. Please stick with it, it’s definitely worth it

It really depends on the instance. The big ones definitely have a lot of politics. More topic-focused instances tend to have less of that.

Agreed. I’d be fine with it if they were just honest about the actual price, but such systems just obfuscate the prices because otherwise you’d instantly know that it’s really expensive.

This anime handles the 3D animation pretty well. The switch to it when fighting is quite natural and not that distracting.

I never realised before that Loulan’s servants looked so much like her. But I guess this confirms Shisui is indeed Loulan for those that didn’t think so yet. I don’t have high hopes for Shisui to make it out alive in the end… Not just kidnapping Maomao, but also the whole switcharoo thing.
Thankfully Maomao’s treatment for Gokuyou has been effective though.

Also just watched the 1st 3 eps of Rock Is A Lady’s Modesty. Similar to the manga, I can’t really get into it. I find the toxic dynamic between the 2 MCs not fun at all. Making playing together a competition is also weird, because that’s just not at all a good idea if you want to play in a band.
Also, for an anime that tries to get the playing look right (good job on the drums, less so for guitar, which makes sense because smaller movements are hard with mocap), they really dropped the ball on how loud a drumkit is. No way you can play along to a song on a phone the way she was or talk over it in a soft voice. You’d be definitely be hearing that thing outside of the building (unless they installed soundproofed glass) or at least in the hallway (no way that door has proper soundproofing).
I like the premise (guitar playing girl thrust into high society has to deal with her passion not being accepted), but not the execution.

I’m intrigued by the Apocalypse Hotel OP due to its way out of key singing and messy instrumental, which seem very fitting.
My favourite EDs are:
- Too Perfect Saint
- Catch Me At The Ballpark
Other than that, I finished Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun. Really fun anime. Love the character interactions. I never watched it before, but it felt very nostalgic. Probably because I started watching anime around that time. Shame about the ending, but other than that I had a blast.

I sure love conflicts getting resolved off screen for no reason.
So many characters are dumb as bricks in this anime and the FMC is certainly not any smarter. It’s quite annoying.

Shisui being Suirei’s sister was unexpected! I had figured Shishui was somehow in cahoots though.
I wonder what they want with her. Could it be because Maomao seemed to actively be preventing induced miscarriages/forced abortions? That has been a pretty big theme so far… The envoy being here is suspicious too.

I currently have quite a busy time, but I think I’ve finally settled into the new season. There are some pretty strong ones. My favourites this season so far are (still) Apothecary Diaries, Apocalypse Hotel and Shoshimin. The surprise was Catch Me At The Ballpark. I’m also watching Witch Watch, The Shiunji Family Children, LycoReco specials, Zatsutabi, Can A Boy Girl Friendship Survive, Too-Perfect Saint and Gorilla Girl. There are others I want to pick up, but those are on HIDIVE (i.e. not available for me) or Prime (fuck amazon) and I can’t be fucked to sail the seven season atm.
I’m also watching Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun. I’m enjoying that one a lot. Fun character interactions.
