- Comment on What are the visually-best anime you're seen? 15 hours ago:
No one does 3D graphics better in anime than Ufotable and KyoAni to an extent. If you want to find better 3D animation, you have to go west and look for the likes of Disney/Pixar.
I mostly agree, but I think studio Orange is missing from that list. They’re the only studio that has made great-looking full 3D anime.
Which brings me to one of my favourites visually: Land of the Lustrous. Gorgeous 3D animation and great action scenes. The reflective “hair” of the characters is only possible due to the 3D.
Other favourites are:
- Violet Evergarden and Liz and the Blue Bird: KyoAni at their absolute best.
- Monogatari Series: it’s not up there for animation (though it’s not bad at all by any means), but it is for its style.
- Fate/Stay Night Heaven’s Feel: absolutely gorgeous and crisp animation. Ufotable at their best (I haven’t seen Demon Slayer past 9 eps in of S1, so can’t comment on that).
- Garden of Words: the atmospherics and the rain are just gorgeous

I liked this way more than I thought I would. Given the 18 minute runtime, I think this was great. It even got me a little emotional Could it have developed more of everything? Definitely, but I think this got everything across it needed. I would like to see a full film of this though. I’d be very interested to see more of the world. I think the SEA cultural influences are so cool. The Naga looks incredible.
Kevin Penkin’s music really elevated the whole thing. Man, can this dude write amazing soundtracks.

- Comment on "Dan Da Dan" Season 3 Announced 3 days ago:
Not necessarily unlikely given this show’s more unique nature, but it’s not uncommon for character types like him to not really deviate much from this behaviour. I could be totally wrong though.
- Comment on "Dan Da Dan" Season 3 Announced 3 days ago:
Yeah that could work, but they’d have to change his entire character type for that. I’ve been burned with that before (Zenitsu from Demon Slayer).

I do hope Kinta won’t be too reoccurring. That might become a breaking point for me.

Suika was 12 when everyone was petrified, 18 afterwards, so it took her six years
I see, thanks

Suika was still a child, and it’s how children think
Definitely! It’s more how they executed it rather than the actual events that made it unbelievable. It was so on the nose.
- Comment on [Episode] DAN DA DAN Season 2 • Dandadan 2nd Season - Episode 12 discussion 4 days ago:
Good season, although I didn’t really care for this kaiju arc. Probably because I really don’t like Kinta as a character. He has a character type I really don’t like: arrogant without anything to really back that up. That seems to be his purpose, as the other characters don’t like him either, but idk. I hope he doesn’t become too reoccurring.
Hyped for next season.

I don’t expect it to actually come out until 2027
If they keep the same cadence as they have been, I’d expect Spring 2026

I started watching this one when it was already halfway through. I didn’t really know what to expect aside from edge, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It wasn’t nearly as edgy as I thought it was going to be.
This world of this anime doesn’t feel like a standard fantasy world to me. The different humanoid factions (that aren’t just elves and dwarves) were interesting and the actual dominance of the magical beasts was cool too. There’s much more to the world to explore too. I think that’s one of the biggest draws for me.
The battles were exciting too where I didn’t necessarily know where they’d go.
Characters were decent. Wouldn’t say they’re the most developed, but not static either. I’m not sure what to think about Nell being “beautified” after being healed. It felt kind of like they thought the audience wouldn’t like her if she wasn’t a hot girl.
I’m a little bummed about season 2 to be seemingly set in a school though. A fair amount of fantasy anime seem to pivot towards some school arc somewhere along the line, even if it didn’t start out as such. I don’t really get it. There are so many school anime, why does the non-school one have to go to school too? Oh well, maybe they’ll do something interesting with it.

So did it take Suika 7 years to make it or was Senku in there for 7 years? If so, I wonder how long Suika was petrified. Decently long I suppose, because of the moss and tattered clothes and all, but I can’t really get an idea
- Comment on Japan to boost support for its anime and film industry 4 days ago:
The plan comes as the country aims to triple overseas revenue from Japanese content to ¥20 trillion in 2033.
I do hope this won’t mean that they’ll cater to overseas audiences to achieve this. Sure, it’ll be somewhat unavoidable, but I’d like it to stay uniquely Japanese in style.
raising the upper limit on the industry ministry’s subsidies for video productions
God I hope the animators benefit from this and it doesn’t just disappear into the pockets of the production committees.

And I’m glad it did
Not that I disagree, but I could’ve done without the “ew it’s just scrap paper” and “nah screw the slow one” moments. It was so obvious those were the actual problem solvers. I feel like there are more graceful ways to give hints lmao.

when ebooks barely cost less than physical volumes without any of the utility, that’s absolutely scammy.
Not sure how it is for you, but most of the e-books are at least half the price of the physical volumes where I live. The only exception is the publisher Seven Seas, which is more 3/4 of the price. For example, Demon Slayer is 12 euros physical, but 6 euros digital.
And e-books definitely have utility, like no need for storage space. They’re also easier for travel, since it all fits on one device.

paying for digital manga is an absolute fucking scam
From services like Manga UP, totally.
But I think Manga Plus, which is a flat subscription fee, is fine. Buying volumes on e-book stores like Bookwalker, Kobo or Kindle completely fine too (Kobo is the nicest IMO).

Things start to feel more intriguing around episodes 8 or 9, and by episode 12/13 the tone shifts dramatically.
Yeah, it’s a real slowburn, so I understand why you gave up on it the 1st time.
Yes - it’s “the dark magical girl show”, but it doesn’t even feel as dark as I was personally bracing for.
I think there are two reasons for that:
- You went into it knowing it was going to be dark. At the time, no one knew until the famous Mamiko scene. Everyone thought it was going to be a standard magical girl anime. It was a proper twist.
- Edgy/dark magical girl shows have kinda become normal and yeah, have really pushed the edge further. Madoka popularized dark magical girl shows.

If this song is too close to YOSHIKI’s style, then he needs to worry about most of the power metal scene. This is pretty standard power metal, good power metal, but pretty standard.

I mean, cheaper than a new film sure, but not as cheap as 4K upscales
- Comment on GKIDS announces 4K restoration release of Perfect Blue in U.S. theaters in October 4 weeks ago:
Not sure I’d call it a minor touch up. Restoration doesn’t necessarily require the original to be actually damaged. Film/cells fade over time. Digitally restoring that can be pretty intensive, depending on how faded it is.
Restoration for projects like these is a pretty common term AFAIK.

I’d say it’s worth it. I’ve played the game too and loved it. It changes things up here and there (Yoko Taro was involved after all) in a good way and also adapts parts of the Pearl Harbour Descent manga, and I really liked that. The 1st season was a bit troubled due to COVID stuff (still good), but the 2nd season was incredible.
- Comment on Anime Questions, Recommendations, and Discussion Thread [2025, Week 34] 5 weeks ago:
That’s a solid starting point. Some other suggestions:
- Monogatari series: Off and Monster Season
- NieR Automata anime adaptation (1st season is good, but 2nd season is amazing)
- Attack On Titan finished
- Makeine
- SHOSHIMIN

I’m finally catching up this season. I’m now up to date on Dr Stone, Gachiakuta, Dandadan, With You And The Rain and My Dress-up Darling. There are others I want to watch still, but oh well.
Some banger OPs this season. Gachiakuta’s OP is fire and With You And The Rain’s OP is delightfully chill

I probably shouldn’t take it so serious, but 50,000 calories? How? At first I thought it was a translation error, but the manga has the same number. Then I thought it was small calories, but that’d be 50kcal, which is nowhere near enough to even live. Are both the translated manga and CR wrong? Or is it just exaggerated for comedic effect? (I’m guessing the latter)
- Comment on CALL FOR URGENT ACTION to stop Chat Control legislation in EU 5 weeks ago:
Yeah, I’m not confident either

Fucking hell. When does it stop? It’s gotten shot down multiple times, so why do they keep trying? Do they see more of a chance now that we’re getting more conservative views in the EP? It’s good to see my country opposes it, but man.
