Made in Abyss has far, far more suffering and messed up stuff that happens
I hear many great things about MiA, but this is what’s keeping me from watching/reading it. I’m not sure what to expect from this. Is it Berserk level? Or more like Re:Zero? Or more like Promised Neverland?

Must watch:
- Apothecary diaries s2
- Dr stone
Interested:
- Guild receptionist: fun idea. Also CloverWorks
- Zenshuu
- I have a crush at work: read the 1st manga volume. It’s fun.
- Welcome to japan, ms elf: read few chapters of the manga. Seems fun
- Flower and asura
- Bureaucrat to Villainess: read some of the manga too. Fun concept.
- Ameku M.D.: I’m down for some mystery
I’ll have a look:
- Honey lemon soda
- Kuroiwa is impervious to my charms
- Unnamed memory s2: s1 sucked ass, but retconned the entire thing at the end, so I am kind of curious.
- Grisaia: Phantom Trigger: Grisaia… That’s a while ago. I enjoyed it at the time, but don’t know if I still would.
- Red Ranger Isekai: could be fun, could also be very gimmicky and become stale quick.
- Tasokare hotel
- NEET kunoichi
Maybe I’ll also finally pick up Orb.

I enjoyed this show more than I initially thought I would. It’s nothing great, but the setting remained interesting and Veltol remained a fun protagonist, despite my initial problems with him. Great OP and ED too

Villainess That Goes Down in History.
This one I’d dropped in favour of the manga. The animation was pretty poor and didn’t add much otherwise.
had some problematic stuff
It does, but it’s not nearly as bad as Do-Over Damsel.

The defusing him in the final episode happened by her promising to bear him 10 children.
Yeah, I hated that. Because 1. it doesn’t make sense why that would diffuse the situation, 2. it’s just gross. and 3. is even more problematic than it already was, because she wanted to wed those children out to Hadis’ older siblings

There is an in-universe reason, but it doesn’t matter because the author had all the power to not write it that way. Yet they chose to do it this way.

Ah yes, the retcon, following an atrocious first season

Not a great final episode. Not a fan of how the finished the arc. There don’t seem to be many consequences, if any, for the betrayal. Especially Elentzia. Her motives were vague to begin with (she wanted to prevent a war, but her uncle is the one that would’ve caused the war had things continued on, so what the fuck?), but then she suddenly stood behind Hadis again and now has suffered no consequences for her actions? She still teamed up with someone that attacked a completely innocent village, wanted to execute a little girl and the real descendent of Rave (even if she herself didn’t want to, but come on). She was clearly in the wrong. Not executing her is very understandable, but no prison time? Or being stripped of her authority? Or being demoted? Also, talking about having kids with him (while she is an 11 year old) and then be like “they can marry your siblings so they become real family (who are older than Hadis)!”. Bro what.
Anyway, this anime was intriguing, but fuck man, did they really have to make her 10 (now 11) and him 19? Even if she’s “actually 16”. And double, no tripple down, on it too. Sure medieval marriages like this weren’t uncommon, but 1. this is fantasy so doesn’t have to follow those norms and 2. there was often no agency over it in those times but here they have full agency. It tries to be self-aware by having everyone else be like “haha, this is weird right?”, but it does it anyway. Why not up her age to something acceptable? Or have him come down in age. Or both? Or have it stay completely strategic with no feelings involved? But no. They even specifically made it Hadis’ preference (not just because of the Goddess of Kratos).

Good idea. I struggled with some categories too because I didn’t quite know what counted and what didn’t. Suspense is one of them.

The pirated versions have better subs and editors notes to translate signage, explain/translate in-jokes, and cultural differences, not to mention the onomatopoeia that most “streaming sites” never bother to translate.
Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places, but fan subs rarely happen anymore, don’t they?

season 2 of KonoSuba
Konosuba is one of those rare anime where the sequels are better than the 1st season.
- Comment on Fall Anime Season Wrap-Up and Discussion Thread [2024, Week 52] 1 week ago:
This was a very weak season for me. Of the 14 shows I started off with:
- one of them was a leftover from previous season (2.5D Seduction).
- I dropped 6 of them
- put on hold 1 of them (re:zero)
- the ones I didn’t drop are fine with only a few exceptions. I can only really call 2 of them very good (Dandadan and NegaPosi Angler).
I’m still planning to watch Orb and Magilumiere.
The ones I ended up watching in full were:
- 2.5D seduction: good fun, pretty wholesome despite the ecchi.
- Dandadan: probably best of season. Unfortunate ending.
- NegaPosi Angler: 2nd best of season and the surprise for me. Expected to dislike it because I don’t care for fishing, but ended up being pulled in by the characters and their dynamics.
- Demon Lord 2099: also a bit of a surprise. Not without its flaws, but fun. Interesting combination of 2 different settings (fantasy and cyberpunk). After Dandadan, probably my favourite OP and ED.
- 365 Days Till Wedding: took a nosedive after the first half and kinda stayed there. Adult romance anime are usually fresh compared to school romance because the characters are more mature and assertive. Not here though. Too passive and too dependent on misunderstandings.
- Do-Over Damsel: there’s something really intriguing here, but it’s brought down so hard by its problematic main duo.

wasn’t a single discussion thread for “Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online” - Season 2
There was for the first few eps, but I guess it didn’t get enough interaction and got dropped by the bot as a result. I certainly dropped it. It was quite boring. There was little reason to care about anything that happened. I dropped it at the surprise mechanic.

Did a fair bit of reading (at least 5 chapters, sometimes 10) for most of the ones I didn’t know, with exception of 2 or 3. In most cases, this equated at least 1 volume, or at least almost, which I think is a fair amount.
I liked them all, but some of the nominees I didn’t really see why they’d be on this list to be honest, but tastes differ. Maybe some of them get really good later on.

I have a Jellyfin server. That’s still not nearly as convenient. You have to setup and maintain your own server that way. The majority of anime fans are not going to do this.

We all are. Because pirating is literally the same as watching through those other sites
I don’t quite agree that all of us are and that it’s the same. Crunchyroll is huge after all. I think legal streaming is generally more convenient too, especially on anything other than a PC. Most pirate streaming sites are ad riddled and even if you use an adblocker they sometimes still pass through or you’re caught in a DDOS protection loop. Finding a decent site is actually just a pain. The quality is worse most of the time too, since they’re just rips from services such as CR.
Torrenting isn’t much better and certainly not more convenient.
That’s not to say pirating isn’t huge It is and it’s a good counterweight against massive corporations. I still pirate, when it’s not available here (looking at you HIDIVE or all the shows CR still hasn’t ported over from Funimation), or when a company like Amazon has the exclusive rights to an anime, but otherwise it’s through legal ways for me because it’s generally much easier.
