For me Lemmy was my gateway to the rest of the Fediverse. I can say I like Lemmy way more than I ever did Reddit. The people are nicer the engagement feels more real and over all it’s a better vibe. Here’s to 2 more everyone!
Happy lemon cake day!

Happy lemon cake day!
Congrats! This is definitely a better place than reddit.
4 years over here for me, when lemmy.ml was pretty much the only option.
4 years wow, so you must really remember the more quiet times. Even just in the last 1 to 2 years it’s got so much busier.
Yes, it was pretty quiet, but I feel the quality was always pretty good, even from the beginning.
i already got banned once, so its really THE reddit expirience. xD
PieFed becoming a lot more akin to an evolved Reddit than Lemmy lately with the recent updates
Is that a positive or native opinion of PieFed? I’m genuinely curious since I’ve never really scrolled through PieFed
What makes it better and what were these recent updates? Genuinely curious. I hope there is more than one dev, lest it go the way of mbin or kbin, forgot which one was abandoned.
I was kind of surprised to find so many that were banned and denied even their appeals. I chose not to appeal because it was obviously they were power addled assholes.
i wasnt radical enough in a comment for .ml and discussed a bit, so it was fully deserved! you cant have different political views than the mods!
2 years is coming up for me shortly. I realized not too long ago that I’ve always been interested in Reddit alt. I signed up to… volt? I forgot the name, but the users were awful so I didn’t stick around. I’m glad lemmy worked out.
Yeah voat was pretty much nazi central
Wow, thanks for the memories. I waded through the Nazis to get my shitposts on Voat, now I wade through the tankies to get my shitposts here. Reality is a wild and magical thing, isn’t it?
Yes! Voat… anyway. Grateful for lemmy.
“I like Lemmy way more than I ever did Reddit. The people are nicer”
punches you in the face
Oh, yeah. Totally agree
punches you in the balls
Over on reddit, there are all kinds of fascists, and literal nazis.
uppercuts you
Over here, theres an instance full of tankies, but you can avoid them.
kicks you in the shins
The people here are TOTALLY nicer!
kick kick punch
What? I’m not attacking you to be violent. I just have a neurological disorder that causes my limbs to involuntarily thrash out.
punch
I’m TOTALLY being friendly right now!
kick punch it’s all in the mind
One instance? There’s at least two. But does that really matter? Reddit had r/TheDonald and r/conservative, and trying to those people to fuck off and stop proselytizing elsewhere was like trying to play whack-a-mole against an anthill.
Here, you block the tankie instances and move on with your life.
This kind of self-critical comment no longer exists on Reddit, lol. Appreciate it.
Nearly the same for me, but it was closer to the end of June that I moved.
I’ve not contributed to Reddit since, and only really occasionally browse it from my computer when I’m looking for something in particular now.
Kinda helped by the fact the Reddit I used to enjoy seems to be more or less dead anyway. Weird bot filled comment sections, ads shoved in your face, weird monetising features no one asked for, increasingly weird moderation.
2 years for me as well!
Happy cake day Dave
Geez that was a quick two years
Almost two years for me too. Wow, time flies.
Wow. Same here. Haven’t logged on since then either. Although I do browse r/printsf in my laptop still… Fediverse is the shit
Me too. Happy 2 years everyone!
Happy 2 years!
Happy 2-year! Damn, I’ll coming up on my 2y in a few weeks. Time flies, and I don’t even remember much about xhitter and reddit anymore.
hey me too! All the best!
The people are nicer the engagement feels more real and over all it’s a better vibe.
Nah, lemmy is so shit. But at least it’s our shit and not force-fed shit by an algorithm designed to maximize profit for spez pigboy…
You gotta block the tankies, the insufferable FOSS purists, the extremists, the hyper-political spam, and the anarchists if you want some semblance of normalcy.
Here and there I still see extremism, like casually openly calling for murdering others ( example ) . At least on reddit that shit would be filtered the fuck out.
Has it really been that long…? I can’t even tell since I can’t log into my OG account anymore to see my join date (yiffit shut down 😭).
Two years for me, too. But I disagree that it’s nicer than on Reddit. The way Lemmy works fosters the development of cliques. Also, with much fewer users it makes it so that ‘power’ users wind up having a weird cult-like following that boosts their posts/comments and suppresses anyone who dares to point out when those people mistreat other people and/or break the rules that are clearly applied selectively.
Just like old web forums, how nostalgic
Feel free to report such abuse on !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com
The irony of that suggestion is very amusing, because the admin/moderator of that sub is one of those people.
Same here. It’s been a blast.

So you’re from the first reddit exodus (third party apps ban) in 2023 like me.
Pacrat173@lemmy.ml 1 day ago
Yep they killed Apollo and I took off running looking for greener pastures I think I went to the right place.

PieFed has wikis and flairs for communities, Feed feature similar to how people can create their own custom feeds on Bluesky and Topics feature to browse content by subject, you can filter posts by keywords (Lemmy has it too but not on the default interface), warning label by the side of the name of people with too many negative karma/points/reputation to make it easier to spot trolls and some other fun things if you ever want to try it out although theres no mobile app for iOS afaik yet if thats a dealbreaker for you, but theres for android

I also left when Apollo went down! The grass is much greener here if you ask me.
CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Same. No Apollo no Reddit. Haven’t been back except to delete my account a few weeks later.
Taiatari@lemmynsfw.com 1 day ago
I’m in the same boat here, not regretting it at all that I moved on.
TORFdot0@lemmy.world 21 hours ago
Exactly the reason I left. I was so pleased when Apollo for Lemmy in the form of wefwef/voyager existed too
neidu3@sh.itjust.works 1 day ago
Was that two years already? I thought that was last year. Tme flies when you’re having fun, I guess.

That’s why I’m here! :D
The developer of my favorite reddit app (dBrady, Relay for Reddit) decided to play along with Spez’s game and start charging for usage.
So I fucked off, and after testing every Lemmy app I could find, I settled on Voyager. It’s not optimized for foldables like Relay—and it’s swipe gestures aren’t as intuitive—but it’s close and still better than paying to use reddit.
BigBenis@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Same here! Though I took a 6-month break in between quitting Reddit and joining Lemmy. I remember hoping it would amount to a feeling of liberation but in reality I just felt out of touch with world events and started scrolling through my Google feed instead, which sucked…
Gork@lemm.ee 1 day ago
Is there more than one exodus now? I haven’t been keeping track.
lundi@piefed.social 1 day ago
AFAIK there was another exodus after they announced to be training AI based on Reddit content, another when they went public, another for starting heavily censoring more the platform (some people a while ago were getting banned just for saying Luigi or upvoting posts with it)
can@sh.itjust.works 1 day ago
There was a smaller (?) one a few months ago when reddit started punishing people for upvoting content that went against their ToS.
aceshigh@lemmy.world 1 day ago
There have been several. Before lemmy there were others that failed.
