I just drove through Wyoming and it’s a prime spot for wind turbines. Too bad it’s also prime for coal mining…

Meh, I actually know how to code without the help of AI and my knowledge in computer science is minimal. It’s like the difference between being a construction worker and having an engineering degree.

- Comment on 'Technofascist military fantasy': Spotify faces boycott calls over CEO’s investment in AI military startup 5 weeks ago:
I stopped using Spotify long ago because of their shitty business practices. Producing a product they killed support for within just a couple years without reimbursing customers and producing huge amounts of e-waste. Jacking their subscription prices twice in one year. Apparently, they also donated to Trump despite not being an American company?? That’s to say nothing of their shitty recommendation algorithm, which just plays your most played tracks over and over. Good riddance.
For those interested, I use Tidal now. I’m satisfied with, their recommendation algo is fine and the higher quality streaming is really nice but nothing I’ve used has ever been as good as Google Play Music, I found so much good music though that service and could upload whatever I was missing. Once Tidal inevitably pisses me off, I’m going to move on to self hosting.

Same here! Though I took a 6-month break in between quitting Reddit and joining Lemmy. I remember hoping it would amount to a feeling of liberation but in reality I just felt out of touch with world events and started scrolling through my Google feed instead, which sucked…

Beyond supporting local businesses, Starbucks’ coffee is just objectively poor quality in comparison to that of any local roster.

I’m going to be migrating to Linux and using Mint. I’m just paranoid about doing something wrong and accidentally walking into a security vulnerability. So I want to set aside time to properly learn things and understand what I’m doing but I’m just busy AF these days…

As much as I resent religion, I do believe it’s fundamentally a human problem. People everywhere have a tendency to corrupt beliefs in order to justify being assholes to one another.

Yeah, no thanks. These people were fine with all the hateful and cruel shit the Republicans pedal until it affected them. Whether it’s because they themselves are cruel or just morons, that’s up for debate. But either way, I will not consider them an ally in this. They’ve got to change their shitty ways first.

- Comment on How is the Stock Market keeping it's value after *points to everything*? 5 months ago:
Because the stock market isn’t a measure of how well a country is operating. On the contrary, deregulation allows companies to boost profit via harmful means. Rich people got it good under Trump/Republicans and therefore the stock market thrives.

- Comment on Microsoft Study Finds Relying on AI Kills Your Critical Thinking Skills 5 months ago:
I’m a senior software dev that uses AI to help me with my job daily. There are endless tools in the software world all with their own instructions on how to use them. Often they have issues and the solutions aren’t included in those instructions. It used to be that I had to go hunt down any references to the problem I was having though online forums in the hopes that somebody else figured out how to solve the issue but now I can ask AI and it generally gives me the answer I’m looking for.
If I had AI when I was still learning core engineering concepts I think shortcutting the learning process could be detrimental but now I just need to know how to get X done specifically with Y this one time and probably never again.
