I’ll tell you it’s slightly more believable than the vegetable that fried rice.
At least the damn shrimp has agency.

This golden brown, too accurate for sea creatures.

“My doctor told me to stop having intimate dinners for four. Unless there are three other people.”
Orson Welles

That guy is someone famous and lost all his money so he did ads, right? I cannot remember his name and it’s driving me insane. I think he like… Directed films? If I recall correctly, he was a bit of an ass.
I cannot remember his name. 😭
Depress_Mode@lemmy.world 3 days ago
War of the Worlds was written by H.G. Wells, not Orson Welles. Orson did, however, do that famous radio performance of War of the Worlds in the 30s that ostensibly (but probably not actually according to more modern analysis) caused widespread panic among its listeners.
I always get these two and George Orwell confused. The fact that Orson Welles/H.G. Wells both have that War of the Worlds connection and H.G. Wells/George Orwell both being famous authors doesn’t help, either.
untorquer@lemmy.world 3 days ago
Wait there’s 3 of them!? I always thought two and when the name was different in media my thought was, “of curse that’s just the other one”…
CCAirWater@lemm.ee 3 days ago
Oh valid, my bad. I saw it in passing when I googled him and put two and two together to make eight lol
MustardCabbage@sh.itjust.works 3 days ago
He didn’t lose all his money; he was blacklisted because of mccarthyism and run out of Hollywood. A great tragedy; he could have made so many more great films.
CCAirWater@lemm.ee 3 days ago
Hmm, I did some quick googles. Wiki didn’t have much on his finances, just his work. But from few sites, it seems he definitely was blacklisted but made a return throughout the 70s and 80s but nothing big took off and he still ended up broke doing commercials because he lived too loud with his money. So it seems it started with being blacklisted but he also was spending too much money? I dunno. I’d have to read more, but sounds about right from what I remember of a film appreciation course I took a decade ago that started with fkn citizen cane.

Old man wine commercial is not the way I thought someone would try to get Orson Welles name ever 😂
RowRowRowYourBot@sh.itjust.works 3 days ago
Ypu need perspective. The reason why Citizen Kane is celebrated is because it was the first film todo x,y, or z. For example it’s the first film to have the story told througha pastiche of other people’s memories.
CCAirWater@lemm.ee 2 days ago
Oh, and I agree. I understand that. It’s also the first film to piss me off, in my formative years.
Still fkn hate it! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Godric@lemmy.world 3 days ago
Citizen Kane is an OK movie, and transformative for film as a whole, fuck you buddy!
CCAirWater@lemm.ee 2 days ago
Agreed. Still hate it.
I’m not your buddy, pal! (╯°□°)╯

But I appreciate you! Thank you!

Side note, citizen cane is awful. I don’t care that it’s said to be top cinema. I hate that boring waste of 3hrs.
Boooooo.
DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 3 days ago
Why are you booing him, he’s right!
Tbh I can only appreciate its contributions to cinema intellectually, otherwise it’s just some movie everyone alive knows the ending to before they see it.

(ノ゚0゚)ノ Oh no! A ghost!
I said what I said! ಠ_ಠ
I respect it, appreciate it even. But my God, I hate that film.
