Reddit really fucked themselves. Not as much as Elon fucked twitter but super close.
Also pretty sure DDG uses Bing
Even back when I used Reddit, I had such a burning hate against Reddit results that I blacklisted them. So this is actually improving things for me, as I use DDG by default.
As such I hope that this decision becomes another nail in each of their (Google and Reddit’s) coffins.
DuckDuckGo hasn’t been returning good reddit results for months… sigh. (Sometimes reddit has the only discourse on e.g. some error a SaaS product is throwing.)
I installed a plugin months ago to exclude Reddit results from my search results.
Well, now google did that for you lol
Actually convenient, I use duck duck go so I don’t care if googles the only working engine. So long as I don’t see it. lol.
whoever is left there deserves whatever happens. they really showed what they thought of the users over the years. culminating in app/api control.
…and Pepperidge Farm definitely remembers saydra.
It seems like it’s mostly just bots left there now.
I don’t want reddit links showing up in my searches. I’m fine with this.
Fuck Reddit
I’m not saying we should have gulags, but if we did, I have some suggestions for permanent residency.
Not an ad, but Kagi is worth it. I’m ok with paying for search tho.
Yes an ad, and a free one at that.
I will pay for a server and then host SearX-NG rather than paying for a Good Service. Yep, I am wierd.
I actually have an instance of searxng as well. I use it with my local chatGPT.
I’ve been using it for a while and agree. At least I know how they’re making money off of me.
Still seeing new Reddit posts on Kagi. Lets hope it stays this way.
Kagi pays Google for search results to supplement its index so it will keep reddit results as long as Google lets them
I’ll pass, but thanks for the reminder.
Don’t forget, searx works too.
That’s google
Searx just aggregates
I wonder where searx gets the results from then.
Good.
Another nail.
Shit, I was late to party here, apparently.
I tried using Google to search reddit the other day and it didn’t work.
i like how the only reason i’d use reddit is to search “site:reddit.com/r/thesimpsons <random simpsons quote>” to see what the simpsons reddit says about the episode.
I’m still getting full reddit results on DDG.
The reddit results I see on Google or DDG are usually blocked so no browser can access them. I hate to see all that content disappear but on the other hand I really don’t want to give Reddit any clicks.
DDG is a metasearch engine uses Google as a primary search sources, so this would indicate Google is not returning search data to its own APIs.
I feared AI would lead to this, so hopefully I’m jumping to conclusions. DDG, searxng, kagi, and most other alternative search engines rely on this API.
Duckduckgo uses Bing for links: “Of course, we have more traditional links and images in our search results too, which we largely source from Bing.” from : duckduckgo.com/duckduckgo-help-pages/…/sources/
Good to know. I thought they used aggregated google too.
no mention of brave search, didn’t read the article yet though
Article didn’t mention Brave either. I think it’s also blocked because Reddit is only allowing Google to scrap its website.
Poople
I searched for a specific post: No result from DDG, correct result from google. I will try again in a day. duckduckgo.com/?q="advise+for+bringing+my+son+int… www.google.com/search?hl=en&q="advise for bringin…
There are easier ways to check. Here is how i did itImage (no way there hasn’t been a trump reddit post in a week)
Cutoff appears to be on 2nd of July
I have not actually been able to use any Reddit results for awhile. It might be that I force old[.]reddit[.]com and Reddit has finally cracked down on that?
paywalled link :(
I got you archive.ph/GS2I0
yar har
We are indebted to Archive.ph which allows us to jump over paywalls.
I literally only use Reddit for one particular game sub and nothing else, so I just go directly there. I literally have no other use for it, so this change means exactly diddly dick to me.

Oh cool! My searching won’t be spammed with Reddit now!
