- Comment on What water bottles are completely free from the problem of weird chipping/shavings of the material which could put material in the water, even when dropping it or when using Bottle Bright tablets? 2 days ago:
I’ve seen chipping on two black plastic Hydro Flask wide mouth lids, and it looks unsafe.
The last time I drank out of a reusable bottle, I felt a string-like thing on my tongue, and when I grabbed it out, it was black, and way too thick to be hair. I don’t know for sure where it came from, and I’m only 80% sure it’s a problem with the bottle or lid.
The metal version of the Hydro Flask wide mouth lid has a 1-star review about “yummy metal shavings”.

- Comment on Do you care about up/down votes? 5 days ago:
When in comes to my own posts and comments, my trust in vague negative reactions is long gone.
Some things that made me more suspicious of Lemmy users:
- Most criticism of one thing was vague and often mentioned my mental health. And the only non-vague comment was targeted at the involved Catholic beliefs/values and my unusual sense of humor.
- I banned someone for 1 day for saying “So, am I right in assuming that OP has untreated schizophrenia? Wtf is this word vomit?” and someone described this as “banned a guy because he said you write poorly” which is a very weird interpretation. I obviously would not have gived a ban if the comment just said “you write poorly”.
For me, taking online feedback less seriously was a big part of growing up.

Downvoting bad typos is so weird.

- Comment on In the U.S., are all voting booth areas required to have carbon monoxide detectors? 3 weeks ago:
If there’s carbon monoxide, then someone might fill in a bubble thinking it makes the candidate less likely to win, get the candidates mixed up, forget to fill in the bubble, etc.
- Comment on In the U.S., are all voting booth areas required to have carbon monoxide detectors? 3 weeks ago:
Carbon monoxide in a voting place could affect which choices are picked by voters who use the booths.

Smells like lust. And an even sadder kind of desperation.

I’m curious, do you think of sex more as “like ice cream but better” or “like hugging but better”?

- Comment on Is Catholic dating culture often mistaken for incel-style pessimistic desperation? 5 weeks ago:
Some of the listed things mean that Catholics might put more effort into finding someone, compared to secular dating. Also, people seem to see insanity in how Catholic dating connects to marriage, but I don’t know exactly how that’s perceived. I might not be familiar enough with other dating cultures to know what is relevant.
- Comment on Is Catholic dating culture often mistaken for incel-style pessimistic desperation? 5 weeks ago:
I defined the first in another comment.
Incel-style pessimistic desperation: persistently sad because no girlfriend; horny; wants an easy short path to having girlfriend; making the other person happier is probably not part of why they start to want romance
- Comment on Is Catholic dating culture often mistaken for incel-style pessimistic desperation? 5 weeks ago:
I didn’t limit to only what’s specific to Catholics. Also, I’ve heard that Mormons think it’s a big deal to still not be married at a certain age because it affect which level of Heaven you enter.
- Comment on Is Catholic dating culture often mistaken for incel-style pessimistic desperation? 5 weeks ago:
- marriage is awesome enough to warrant active effort in dating if one is called to marriage, but not at all costs
- standards can be good, even if it means staying single
- no shame or moral inferiority in being single, regardless of age
- marriage almost always should be with another catholic
- no premarital sex or cohabitation
- dating is for finding future spouse, but there’s not too much rush in determining whether or not someone is that future spouse
- relatively wide variety in how long a couple dates before deciding to marry
- normal to date in high school, but some people are against it, and some actively encourage it
