I got addicted to Payday 2 again…
Also not really a “patient game” since it isn’t even out yet but the Heatwarped Demo got a new update so having a blast struggling through the new hard mode they added.

Thief 2: The Metal Age. It feels/is the ancestor to the Dishonored series.
Coelacanth@feddit.nu 2 hours ago It absolutely is. Thief is generally mentioned in the same breath as Deus Ex as the founding fathers of imsims.

Enshrouded having a blast building our new base. We started with 1.0 and it’s great. Huge open world which is handcrafted, great exploration and the crafting and building part of the game is very solid. It doesn’t feel as grindy as other survival games and overall it’s a great experience.
TachyonTele_Esq@piefed.social 18 hours ago
I love enshrouded. I’m just under 1k hours
kossa@feddit.org 14 hours ago
Tried to get into it after I had enough of Valheim, but somehow it didn’t work for me. For some reason the Valheim build system is at the perfect spot for me, all other games that I tried to scratch that itch, fell short 😭
berty@feddit.org 11 hours ago
Felt the same about the building at first but it is very solid and lots of stuff that seems complicated at first makes sense when you think about it. I would give it a second chance. We played Valheim first and having a blast in Enshrouded!

IRON NEST
if you’re autistic it’s bombastic, a good little game.
Also, wardogs
silverchase@sh.itjust.works 12 hours ago Replaying Hypnospace Outlaw after being inspired by reading One Terabyte of Kilobyte Age, a long-running blog that studies the GeoCities archive. It’s currently down, so here’s an archive of it.
Coelacanth@feddit.nu 1 hour ago Hyperspace Outlaw looks interesting. I’m not sure it’s the kind of game I’m looking for right now but my ears are always perking up at an Overwhelmingly Positive indie game. Might check it out at some point.
nocturne@piefed.social 19 hours ago Still have not gotten much time to play the newest update of No Man’s Sky… does that count? It is over 10 years old, but gets regular content updates.
Septian@lemmy.zip 19 hours ago
You just caused me psychic damage. Was sure there was no way NMS was older than 5-6 years. Getting ready to set it up for VR today to check out the new update myself.
nocturne@piefed.social 19 hours ago Cosmos was their 10 year anniversary update and expedition.
kettuli@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 hours ago It’s personally too much, I can’t concentrate on any of the bazillion new mechanics.
toxicbubble@lemmy.world 12 hours ago
rise of the tomb raider
mario party (all the handheld ports)
Pokemon HeartGold
Quazatron@lemmy.world 16 hours ago Just finished Dark Messiah. Loved it.
Now maybe I’ll go with Dishonored 2, to keep the Arkane vibe going.
kossa@feddit.org 14 hours ago
Nice, just finished Dishonored 2 like two weeks ago, great game. Better flow than the first one, little less interesting story-wise. Anyway, enjoy.
Hal@piefed.nz 11 hours ago I bought a bunch of games in the recent GOG sale. So instead of playing them I’ve been playing Just Cause 3.
I honestly think this is one of my all time favourite games. It wouldn’t win any awards from critics. Wikipedia says “Just Cause 3 received “mixed or average” reviews from critics, according to review aggregator website Metacritic.”. But it’s just so fun.
You can play it without need to pay much attention, just going around blowing up shit to liberate bases. A hero in an uprising against a dictator.
Anyone got recommendations for other games that are really enjoyable to play even if they aren’t award worthy games?
Coelacanth@feddit.nu 2 hours ago Buying games on sale is so much more satisfying than actually playing them, isn’t it? All that potential joy at your fingertips, all those dollars you gigglingly save… Much better than actually cashing it in by playing them. I know that feeling.
I’ve never played Just Cause, but that sounds like something adjacent to Ubisoft open worlds? You could try some Assassins Creed game (I actually quite like Unity, otherwise the Black Flag remake maybe?), Ghost of Tsushima sounds similar, Sleeping Dogs perhaps (although more of a GTA-like)? Otherwise there are several Far Cry games that maybe can give you that loop of clearing out outposts?
Hal@piefed.nz 1 hour ago I’ve played a lot of Assassin’s Creed, I do enjoy that Ubisoft cut and paste from time to time. I also enjoyed Sleeping Dogs. And Ghosts of Tsushima is on my wish list! You know me well 😆
I never really liked the Far Cry games I tried but magbe it’s time to give it another go.
Just Cause 3 is fun because it lets you mess around. The mechanic of clearing bases isn’t really the drawcard, it’s how you have a wingsuit and a grappling gun and just fly around blowing shit up. Then helicopters come to try to stop you and you can grapple to them and pull the pilot out and take over. Or reprogram the SAMs to shoot at them instead of you. You can grapple an explosive barrel to a fuel tank and pull them together. It’s just a fun world to mess around in, and the base clearing gives you something to aim for. It also fits into the storyline, which isn’t a bad story really.

I’ve been meaning to try that game. Your review sold it for me. I’ll strongly consider checking it out soon.
Hal@piefed.nz 9 hours ago I have no idea how much is nostalgia but it’s recent enough to have normal controls, graphics are decent, and gameplay is fun, especially after you do a few missions to unlock the core gear.
Meridula@europe.pub 16 hours ago
I am continuing my Persona 3 Reload Playthrough, i feel like it was pretty decent so far, but at month 6 or also due to my break for a month, it feels even better now!

I thought I’d finally escaped World of Warcraft after a decade and a half of playing it. I haven’t touched it in years. That was mostly thanks to Activision ruining Blizzard ever since they bought them out; made it real easy to dump the whole company and all their games.
Then a buddy of mine started raving about the new WoW: Forever that’s about to drop in a few days (which is supposedly just a remastered alternate version of WoW, adding tons of new content and fixing all the story/gameplay mistakes the devs felt they made with the MMO over the years) and it got me curious. Now I’m back in WoW, exploring all the content I’ve missed these past few years. It did get a little better since I left.
I’ve never been a hardcore raiding/leveling/grinding kind of MMO player. I like to get immersed in the world and the lore. With vanilla WoW, it took me over a year to reach max level because I was enjoying just running around and exploring every corner of the map. I had my own character backstory built, like a D&D session, and added my own personal lore alongside the game’s content. Heck, I had a last-minute grind session the night The Burning Crusade dropped, just to finally make it to max level so I could enjoy the first expansion.
Supposedly, WoW: Forever plans to emulate that experience, forcing you to actually explore the world and get immersed in the lore and story. No more grinding for max levels, no more flying mounts to get from point A to B without experiencing the world under you.
You’re encouraged to develop more complex professions and skills to benefit other players. You can supposedly set up campsites in the world and drop resources for others to take advantage of. And I guess they’re claiming that the max level is 100% the max level now. No matter what new content drops for it, you’ll never level up again. Gaining levels isn’t the point of this game.
It has me intrigued, so I plan to check it out in a few days.
Coelacanth@feddit.nu 18 hours ago Having a bit of a hard time resetting after my NextFest adventures. Played a bit more of the Ablahshikar demo just to try and figure out what the hell is going on with that game. Will probably buy the early access when it starts soon, partly because it’ll be cheaper than the full release and partly because I want to support the artistry of this developer.
Got back to playing a bit more Withering Realms today, which is also woefully impatient of me I know. I’m really flying in the face of this community’s values. Anyway. Game is good, it’s getting better with every patch. I think it will be fantastic once it releases next spring. Puzzles are quite a bit harder than Withering Rooms, though. Especially since the clues are much more spread out, and it’s much harder to know if you have access to all the required information or not. I’m stumped a bit on a particular puzzle at the moment, will probably have to backtrack a lot and see if I missed something.
TachyonTele_Esq@piefed.social 17 hours ago
I couldn’t get into withering rooms. I like it, it’s well made, but it’s just not my game I guess.
Check out Outcast Tales. It’s free. A new publisher bought the game and they’re just giving it away because the last publisher screwed them I guess.
It’s a rogue lite tactical RPG with lots of character.
RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 14 hours ago Heaven’s Vault! They announced a writing contest and a tabletop role-playing game Kickstarter so that’s cool. I’ll never get another video game. I must accept this, alas.
SmoothOperator@lemmy.world 17 hours ago
Oxygen Not Included. Quite enjoying it, though there’s a lot of unintuitive systems and weird behaviours from pipes etc.
But always fun to have gas/fluid simulation!
theneverfox@pawb.social 13 hours ago
I’ve been playing project zomboid. It’s a bit too high stakes for me with standard settings, but there’s tons of workshop mods that provide a lot of QOL changes
AllHailTheSheep@sh.itjust.works 7 hours ago
I am now completely addicted to vampire survivors
PM_ME_YOUR_ZOD_RUNES@sh.itjust.works 18 hours ago
Factorio Space Age! I’ve always loved Factorio but would usually get bored by like mid game. But that’s not the case with Space Age. All the different planets are so fun. I love Vulcanus and Fulgora, Gleba not so much lol. I still haven’t been to Aquilo yet.
HiroK@lemmy.world 18 hours ago
I’m playing tiny tina wonderlands and i got addicted immediately. I tried before to play other borderlands games, but i get bored and quit after few hours.
However something is different about this spin off, it combine D&D with diablo-like and the campaign is really fun
TachyonTele_Esq@piefed.social 17 hours ago
I just picked up For the King II, and holy there’s a lot of new stuff compared to the first game. It’ll take me awhile to get used to it all.
I’m looking forward to it
Th4tGuyII@fedia.io 18 hours ago Been playing SSX Tricky for the past few days as it was an old nostalgia game of mine.
It's been real fun, but the NPCs are way more obnoxious than I remembered.
Also the way that the devs put alternative courses inside each course so you could go "off trail" is actually really cool
I started a playthrough of Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened (2008).
Earlier this year I did play through the 2023 remake of it, and I wanted to go back and see how the (almost) original game was.
I’m now through the first chapter of the 2008-version, and so far… it’s pretty great! Admittedly I did few .ini tweaks to fix it for widescreen & 4k, it works fine (even if some characters/assets on the very edges of the viewport can blink in/out a bit). Too bad the 2008 version has fixed the “creepy Watson” teleporting, but oh well, at least I don’t get unnescessarily jumpscared.
Other than that, the graphics are quite dated, but they have certain charm. The puzzles seem fairly reasonable, if a bit pixel-hunt-y at times. The vibes are great all around though!
