- Comment on Trying to avoid US elections content as a non-US citizen. Is this possible on the default Lemmy-UI? I prefer it over Tesseract, Photon, Alexandrite and Voyager (which have built-in keyword filters) 4 weeks ago:
Not sure about default but I’m using Sync and it’s got a keyword filter. Using it to block Musk and Trump, made a big difference.
- Comment on Rural Towns Are Aging, Cash-Strapped and in Desperate Need of Workers 3 months ago:
My town isn’t big enough for a Walmart lol. People just hang out at Tim Hortons all day which I agree is lame as shit. But there’s plenty to do if you like the outdoors and most of the stuff you can do in the big city you can do around here. It’s just a longer drive. Like if want to see a movie it’s about a 30 minute drive to the next town over. Laser tag and trampoline parks are like an hour.
I’d much rather have to travel long distances for recreational activities than for work. My kids actually get to play outside in nature, experience wildlife, eat fresh local produce, go swimming in beautiful lakes. I grew up here and in my teens I wanted to gtfo of this boring place to live in a big city. But as I grew older and spent time in those big cities I realized life was much better for me and my family here.
Lastly, your point about jobs is 100% correct. Jobs are shit, I’m just lucky we have a federal government office in our town where I can make a decent wage that’s not adjusted for where I live.
- Comment on Rural Towns Are Aging, Cash-Strapped and in Desperate Need of Workers 3 months ago:
Wow, a lot of assholes in the comments. Not everyone in rural towns is a right wing redneck. I’ll take my small town of 12,000 people where my commute is 10 minutes by bike over a big city where my commute could be like 1-2 hours.
- Comment on Prime Video subs will soon see ads for Amazon products when they hit pause 6 months ago:
I canceled Prime as soon as they announced they were adding ads and I let them know that was the reason. Fuck them. We moved to streaming because it wasn’t cable, now these fuck heads are trying to turn streaming into cable. Capitalism is the fucking worst.
- Comment on Hades 2 early access launch on Steam reaches over 100k concurrent players 24 hours after launch 6 months ago:
You’re getting downvoted but I agree. The first game is one of my most played on Steam and I was invited to the technical test for the second. But I probably won’t be buying it until any time soon. I absolutely hate the trend of buying unfinished products. While this developer is most likely not taking advantage, so many others do. Why should we pay money to beta test your game???
- Comment on Reddit embracing all out enshittification 6 months ago:
That’s what I hate about it the most. Why can’t it tell me I’m a fucking idiot sometimes?
- Comment on "Batch cooking" how do you store meal for the second half of the week ? 6 months ago:
Things last much longer than 2-3 days, I’d say 7 days is the average. I’ve eaten leftovers that were over a week old. It really depends on what it is.
We hate wasting food so we always try it before throwing it out (unless it smells/looks bad or is moldy obviously). If it tastes good we eat it without worry.
- Comment on More Canadians dive into streaming, pushing traditional TV aside 7 months ago:
That’s not true, I’ve been with Bell for 10+ years and they’ve always had an internet only option. In fact, I know they still do. So does East Link.
- Comment on More Canadians dive into streaming, pushing traditional TV aside 7 months ago:
Wait, you have guys have to pay for cable in order to get internet? I’ve never paid for cable in my life, just internet.
- Comment on 192 Anime Titles Left Without a Streaming Home After Funimation's Website Shuts Down 7 months ago:
Funimation sucks. I subscribed and their app/website was absolutely terrible. When streaming to my Chromecast it would stop playing after 1 episode forcing me to reconnect after every episode. Their website would also get out of full screen when auto playing from one episode to the next.
I unsubscribed after a few weeks of being annoyed with this shit. Started using sites like 9anime instead and never looked back. While I still have the problems I mentioned above with these sites, at least it’s free. There’s also more selection and they highlight filler episodes for you.
- Comment on HP customers claim firmware update rendered third-party ink verboten | Then the company cranked up the price of cartridges, complaint alleges 10 months ago:
It’s fucking nuts how much better they are. I bought a monochrome Brother printer a few years ago. I’m still on the starter toner that came with it. I am never going back to ink. Gone are the days of not being able to print in black cause I’m low on cyan. Fuck HP.
- Comment on Electric eel 10 months ago:
It was fun actually. They have a place where the stingrays swim up to you and you’re allowed to pet them. I was surprised by how they actually want to get pet. They swim up to the side of the wall and come out of the water to get your attention. Like a little water dog.
Thanks for asking!
- Comment on Electric eel 10 months ago:
I just went to the aquarium. That’s shock is 3x more powerful than a wall outlet.
- Comment on Is it safe to use pans with peeling nonstick coating? 11 months ago:
Oh, my point wasn’t that a cast iron pan is as non-stick as Teflon. I was simply talking about cast iron upkeep. I have a non stick pan and it’s much better for certain things for sure. But I wash it by hand instead of putting it in the dishwasher.
- Comment on Is it safe to use pans with peeling nonstick coating? 11 months ago:
I cook for a family of four every day and taking 3 minutes to clean my cast iron pan is the least time consuming part of it. You’re being dramatic.
- Comment on Is it safe to use pans with peeling nonstick coating? 11 months ago:
I have a cast iron pan that I’ve used for almost 10 years. I seasoned it when I got it. To clean it, I scrub it with steel wool, dry it off then rub a coat of oil on it. It still looks and works perfectly. Cast iron is extremely easy to clean and upkeep.
- Comment on How to deal with annoying co-worker 1 year ago:
And where will that get me? She is not like the person the OP described. She brushes off that kind of feedback, it’s not something she even realises she’s doing wrong. It’s her personality.
She’s had complaints brought up against her and was passed up for promotions many times. It’s never changed the way she acts. The thought doesn’t even cross her mind that she is being passed up for promotions because of her social skills. We can’t have a manager saying the kinds of things she does, bad enough she’s a supervisor.
- Comment on How to deal with annoying co-worker 1 year ago:
This is very relatable to me. A supervisor in my team has Asperger’s. She has zero social skills. Says very unprofessional things, interrupts conversations and completely changes the topic to something nobody cares about. She is a hoarder and has way too many dogs/cats, her hygiene isn’t the best.
Most of us have worked together for 5+ years and have learned to ignore it as much as possible. It’s clear that she’s not doing this on purpose and doesn’t realize how annoying/rude she can be. I don’t really have a solution for you. This is just something you learn to live with. It’s still very annoying and frustrating to deal with but I don’t think there’s any solution that wouldn’t negatively impact her.

Blink-182’s new album, it’s very good and makes me so nostalgic.
- Comment on Lemmy active users down, comments steady and posts up 1 year ago:
I don’t use any social media except for Lemmy. It used to be only Reddit but jumped ship after the API changes. I’m enjoying Lemmy for the most part. Commenting is better because it gets more traction compared to Reddit. Unlike others I actually enjoy having all the varying opinions from “problem” instances. It makes it feel less like an echo chamber, which Reddit was bad for.
My only issue is because it’s so much smaller than Reddit, there isn’t as much content or niche communities. I miss some of the subs I used to frequent on Reddit. Some of them were made into communities here but barely have any activity, like one post per week. I guess at the end of the day it’s a good thing cause I spend less time on Lemmy than I used to on Reddit.
- Comment on If you could play one game for the first time all over again, what would it be? 1 year ago:
I don’t think it works on the remake but I’ve been playing the Median XL Sigma mod. It’s very good and they’re still updating it.
- Comment on If you could play one game for the first time all over again, what would it be? 1 year ago:
Diablo 2 of course. It’s the best game ever made. I still play it for a month or two every year.
- Comment on Everything to keep disguise 1 year ago:
My distaste for dogs isn’t specific to pitbulls. I need something more inclusive.
- Comment on Everything to keep disguise 1 year ago:
Surprisingly not. It’s about people who never stepped foot outside of a big city and think the entire world can function without cars. They have this crazy idea that without cars, we could just have buses, bike lanes, trains, etc… everywhere.
They don’t realize that this is literally not feasible for many rural areas. There just isn’t enough people to support these services and the distances between locations is too great.
- Comment on Everything to keep disguise 1 year ago:
People complain about all the tankies plaguing Lemmy but I think the real issue is dog worshippers. I should start a community like FuckCars but about dogs instead.
On second thought, that would probably attract people who love dogs a little too much…
- Comment on Is "Burn Notice" worth watching? 1 year ago:
Bruce Campbell makes the show. It’s worth watching just because of him and his character. I enjoyed the whole thing but probably wouldn’t of without my boy Bruce.

I had the same problem. The image ones are ridiculous, so I started using the audio option. I’ve rarely had to try again on those and it’s usually only typing three words.
