Well, they said they would ‘discuss’ the crappy anticheat too, but so far nothing has been done about that either. I won’t hold my breath.

I know little about it. What makes this stand out? I am guessing kernal level, but is there anything else to it?
The_Vampire@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Helldivers 2 uses nProtect GameGuard, which is a notorious kernel level anticheat. It is notorious for being problematic to uninstall and causing issues on systems it is installed in (such as straight up preventing some programs from running or causing them to crash and other terrible nonsense that should never happen). Combine that with the fact it’s ineffective and the game is PvE, and it’s nonsensical why it’s around.
astrsk@kbin.social 10 months ago
Just search “Sony Rootkit” and it should be more clear why Sony issuing a new kernel level anticheat is not met with warm regards.
Chozo@fedia.io 10 months ago
The short version is that the anticheat software is very invasive on the user's system, and it doesn't even work to prevent cheating in the game.

Kernel Level Sony Data Breach in 3,2,1…
EncryptKeeper@lemmy.world 9 months ago
Well they reversed the account linking. I don’t think the anti-cheat had the same backlash though.
CosmicCleric@lemmy.world 10 months ago
The last screenshot is the most important one to pay attention to.
(Apologizing in advance, a bit of a rant incoming…)
People can’t just bitch about it on an online forum and then do nothing after that, that doesn’t solve anything. You have to be proactive, you have to get off your ass, if you truly want change and to be treated respectfully as a customer. Otherwise, you get what you deserve.
They know the standard M.O. of a gamer, its to complain but then do nothing, and they take advantage of that.

[What is the Anti Commercial-Al license and why do people keep adding it to their comments?](lemmy.ml/post/15152684)
gaael@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Seriously, you’re still on that hill?
They hurt no one with their comment licensing, why do you feel the need to bother them and add to the harassment while adding nothing to the original discussion ?CosmicCleric@lemmy.world 10 months ago

He’s right guys. Get off your *sses and pitch a tent in the grassy area of your local university. Show Sony you’re not going to put up with this!

Here’s the thing: doing something does not always work, but doing nothing never does.
In the provided screenshot, the devs themselves explain that asking for refunds and leaving bad reviews is what gives them enough pull to even have the discussion with sony.Of course you don’t have to do anything, but you really don’t accomplish anything by bothering the people who actually try to find ways to make the situation better.

That’s sarcasm doesn’t help solve anything.

They can “talk” all they like. The proof will be non-implementation.
SpacetimeMachine@lemmy.world 10 months ago
I’m guessing it’s them talking with Sony. Sony is the one requiring this, I’m sure the devs hate being forced to destroy the good will of the community.
neo@lemmy.comfysnug.space 10 months ago
Some people are saying they were aware of the requirements before launch and didn’t adequately inform customers.
I’m unsure how true that is, but it’s huge news if it is true.

I was considering getting this game on playstation at one point but I cannot support this behavior from the publishers.
Daxtron2@startrek.website 10 months ago
You already have by buying a PlayStation
Cavemanfreak@lemm.ee 10 months ago
Since Sony is publishing this everything you buy for PS is supporting that behaviour.

I saw this coming a mile away when I first learned it was a GAAS.

I remember not wanting to make an account to play Half Life 2 back in the day, yet here we fucking well are…
Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.de 10 months ago
Were you hoodwinked into buying HL:2 without needing the account at first?
Blackmist@feddit.uk 10 months ago
It’s not on the physical box, so yes.
The only bit that said you needed it, appears to be the card included in the box.
Zomg@lemmy.world 9 months ago
How has steam experience been for you? I’ve been on steam for about 20 years and don’t recall they doing anything the likes of Sony doing to their customers.
Blackmist@feddit.uk 9 months ago
It’s OK. I do miss the Steam sales actually being worthwhile. They used to be really good, where now I mostly use Steam for games bought elsewhere.
I miss ownership. At least I own my Playstation discs. I can trade them with others when I’m done with them. I can still buy games that have been delisted from digital stores.
Can you say the same about your PC games?
MajorHavoc@programming.dev 10 months ago
I’ve had my eye on Helldiver’s 2, but I’m not creating a PSN account.
I know my $40.00 is pretty important to them, so I thought I would mention it here.
Artyom@lemm.ee 10 months ago
Same. I was thinking about getting it, but the kernel level anti-cheat is a no go, but then I found out on Linux they don’t have a kernel-level anti cheat, so then I was thinking about it again. No way they’ll ever get me to make a PlayStation account, I left consoles for a reason.
ExcursionInversion@lemmy.world 10 months ago
GREAT TO HEAR!
Webster@lemmy.world 10 months ago
I have a PSN account. I can ethically support this move that locked so many players out 4 months after buying a game. So I won’t be buying until at minimum a solution is in place for all those users, but probably not even then.
billiam0202@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Nobody is locked out. Nothing has as yet changed.
The Steam page has said “PSN account required” since day one. Anyone opposed to creating a PSN account on moral grounds and bought HD2 has no one to blame but themselves.
RightHandOfIkaros@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Not gonna lie chief, I don’t think anyone from SIE is on Lemmy.
MajorHavoc@programming.dev 10 months ago
Lol. Yeah.
Sorry, I left off the /s there.

Was thinking I’d binge this game this winter. Definitely not now lol
lepinkainen@lemmy.world 10 months ago
You can’t “binge” a live service game where the plot changes in real time.
