First you have to be a talentless and soulless loser
- Comment on Watch first, then wipe: Some China’s restrooms put toilet paper behind paywall 1 week ago:
I’d argue that the people who decided to monetize toilet paper are cheaper

Yes, because it’s human nature, and some people like to claim a benevolent god made us lol
- Comment on 2 weeks ago:
Good thing that the kind of person who would were these in public doesn’t interact with others much anyway
- Comment on A ‘demoralizing' trend has computer science grads out of work — even minimum wage jobs. Are 6-figure tech careers over? 2 weeks ago:
How do you find such companies, in my experience small startups want to own all your time and expect you to be working constantly to meet their crazy deadlines, so that’s a no go for me, slightly older medium sized companies are a coin toss, the one I worked at had abusive people entrenched into top positions who just want to whip you for their ego, while the company itself is running in shambles because no one working there gives a shit about the job and the product. How do I find a small company with a healthy work life balance and decent colleagues and managers, I don’t need to much salary either, just the standard wage that matches the cost of living

Rainbolt could probably find a street view image of the window to OP’S toilet by looking at this map lol

Plus the tactile feel and responsiveness of a book us unmatched, it’s lightweight and portable, you will never run out of battery, and flipping back and forth through pages is much more intuitive that jumping between bookmarks in pdfs and ebooks, the only thing that comes close is e ink readers but those have their own tradeoffs
- Comment on Artificial Intelligence Spots Hidden Signs of Depression in Students’ Facial Expressions 2 weeks ago:
Plot twist - it was the AI that is making the students depressed in the first place.
- Comment on The Purpose of Difficulty | GMTK Mini 2 weeks ago:
Exactly, as an adult with a job I have very little time to game as is, the last thing I need is losing progress and then having to grind through a part of the game I’ve been through already many times till I reach a difficult boss battle, just auto save the game at critical check points so people can continue from where they last failed quickly
- Comment on Roblox, Discord sued after 15-year-old boy was allegedly groomed online before he died by suicide 3 weeks ago:
So is discord providing a better alternative to monitor ban the creepy predators then, even if these bots are flawed are they not providing necessary security
- Comment on What would stop you from switching to a flip phone (or dumbphone) in 2025? 3 weeks ago:
Google maps navigation, web browsing, YouTube, music streaming, WhatsApp, email, social media apps for entertainment, news apps, notes app, to do app, public transit app, ebook and audiobook apps, utility apps, good camera, good screen, good speakers. If I consider all this there is just no way to go back to the old school flip phones or the candy at phones with the T9 keypad for me, best thing I can do is hide all the apps I don’t want to be distracted by, put app locks on the addictive ones and just be mindful of the time I spend on my phone and figure out other ways to spend my time like dedicated ebook readers or paper books and other activities

Same as your cola gets it’s cola flavor, food scientists can synthesize a wide variety of flavors that mimick different things

- Comment on Plex got hacked. 4 weeks ago:
So is this user specific salt word stored in a table somewhere, how does the company decrypt a salted password otherwise, and so if the salt is also stored somewhere alongside the encrypted password, couldn’t the hacker get his hands on both the salt and the password and use that to figure out the password?
- Comment on Plex got hacked. 4 weeks ago:
Stuff like this can happen to any app, developers are only human, shit happens, but the bigger a company is, the bigger target it becomes, so there is some saftey in an open source app that’s not as popular, but then again a bigger company also has more resources to monitor for security breaches and quickly address them and push out a hot fix, can’t say I know how this works for smaller free open source apps

Going in neutral without expectations is the best way to enjoy a movie in my opinion, there’s a indie theatre near my home that mostly plays older classics from US and around the world. I’ve had my mind blown by movies that came out decades ago, good movies age very well

Goverment funded research is paid for my public money via taxes but the research information is not publicly accessible, I can understand this if it’s defense or other secretive research but there is no reason someone should have to pay for access to other research fields information when it is publicly funded
- Comment on Tech companies pledge to ready Americans for an AI-dominated world 4 weeks ago:
I already have shitty companies ask questions in their job form about which AI tools I use to write software and how much percentage of my final code is from AI, fuck me like this job didn’t suck enough now I have to prompt the fuckin AI multiple times to do something just so that it ticks a metric that upper management can use to justify spending money on AI and firing actual engineers

I’d tell myself to start investing my money and hit the gym, but I’m unemployed right now and I know once I’m employed again finding the time in this rat race is gonna be difficult but I’m gonna start valuing my time more seriously, I’ve uninstalled doom scroll apps like Instagram and I’m working on time blocking my tasks, hopefully that pays off

Man I hope he lives to a 100 at least, why am I always late to the party, I learn about Limewire and it dies the next year, I get access to my sister’s Netflix account and Netflix goes to shit, I’m finally able to afford a gaming laptop and buy Steam games and now I’m too busy and tired from work to play them and Gabe is getting older. I wish I could go back in time and do things differently

- Comment on Chhoto URL v6.3.0 is out now: A simple, blazingly fast, selfhosted URL shortener with no unnecessary features; written in Rust. 5 weeks ago:
People who are into systems languages would care and for newer languages the more people advertise their usage the more mainstream it becomes and then bigger more traditional companies would consider using it and that would help increase the size of that languages ecosystem and community so I’m okay with people adding written in Rust to their project descriptions
- Comment on How long do we have before PCs get locked bootloaders and corporations ban installation of "non-approved" software? (for context: Google is restricting sideloading worldwide on Android ETA 2027) 5 weeks ago:
Exactly, if I like something I try to keep it on the down low, or only spread it in circles where I know it will be similarly appreciated, the moment a majority of the people are into something, that thing will now get subjected to external influences that require it to be liked by everyone and most people are mediocre so the thing moves towards mediocrity

It’s just a meme because white people can barely handle salt and pepper, I’ve never had an issue with taco bell but then again I rarely eat from fast food Mexican places when the real stuff is readily available

- Comment on Mommy, Why is There a Server in the House? 5 weeks ago:
But it’s so absurd lol, someone got paid to make this and they did it in full seriousness,
Like stay at home server, and other kids who will make fun of you for it are jealous of your server like wtf

This is a AI meme right?

Also due to aging either your work responsibilities increase or you get age discriminated out of your preferred role, if you started a family you also have to worry about providing for your dependants now and as you said your health is on a decline
