There’s no hosting needed for Bluesky, you can just create an account on their website, like any other website

I don’t mean actively reading and listening to the audio book, think of it like English subtitles for a English movie. You can ignore them for the most part, until you hear something you didn’t quiet catch or you were not paying attention and missed something, it’s much easier to scroll back a little and read the text to catch up rather than play the part again. Happens a lot for me when listening to audio books. And rewinding the book to catch up on the part I missed is annoying, it’s better to just quickly read the last few lines instead.

I’ve started writing down hour by hour day plan, setting up timers and alarms on my phone and even keep a desk clock on my table and I still fuckin lose track of time and waste it on my phone and shit instead of getting things done. The first thing I’m gonna do once I get a job is find a psychiatrist and get medicated for adhd, I hate living life with no motivation to do anything and in a constant state of unfulfilled distractions.

Why are people so desperate to play new games, I’ve got a large pile of games I bought on sale that I haven’t even played once yet. Why would I ever pay launch price for a game knowing full well it’ll be worth 10$ a couple of years down the line, and till then I’ll play the games I already own.
- Comment on What webapps do you selfhost that aren't media/game servers? 1 week ago:
Yes you need to provide both an Audio book and an ebook as inputs, if you only have one of these, you could try getting the other from your local library, or you could sail the seas. It’s not a fool proof process, so sometimes you have to try different formats of Audio books to make it work, also depending on how beefy your computer is, it will take some time to process, 1-2 hrs for big books like Stormlight Archive on my laptop

Storyteller, ever wish you could listen to an Audio book and read an ebook at the same time.
Storyteller can combine an Audio book and and ebook to create a single ebook that can be read like a normal ebook or you can listen to it and watch the actively spoken sentences highlighted in real time like a karaoke song lyrics.

Every for profit company will eventually go to shit, that’s a given, it’s only a matter of time. You use their services till they benefit you and when they go to shit you switch to the next best option.

This made me think when was the last time I left my home without a phone and I would have to go all the way back before Nokias got popular in my country, shit these days I don’t even go to the bathroom without my phone. I hate the feeling of constantly being available to others, I hate pings and phone calls. I think I’ll buy a deducted ipod nano style media player for music and audio books, and just carry a dumb phone with me that can only do calls and messages the next time I want to go out for a stroll.

- Comment on It's kinda crazy that we willingly give money to companies in advance (say for gift vouchers and pre-orders) 2 weeks ago:
In India e-commerce companies offer cash on delivery as a payment method, where you pay the delivery person that money after the delivery has been made and you can even open the package and verify it’s okay first. In the US not only do you have to pay first, the delivery people can abandon your package at some random location and mark it as delivered and then good luck getting your money back from the company.
- Comment on Social media sites should have 'reverse' Parental Controls; where adult children can block their boomer/senior parents' accounts from viewing conspiracy and radicalizing content. 2 weeks ago:
China didn’t do that cause they care about their citizens. They did it so only they can control what propoganda their citizens consume, teaching children critical thinking and emotional regulation early in their life is a better approach than trying to turn the external world into some safe garden

- Comment on It is possible to install android on some kindle ereaders 3 weeks ago:
In the jail break there were instructions for steps to prevent kindle updates from ruining your setup, I’d say look into that. I’ll be disabling software updates entirely, a shitty company like Amazon will keep making things worse. If I knew better I’d have never purchased a Kindle in the first place
- Comment on It is possible to install android on some kindle ereaders 3 weeks ago:
Just jail breaking my kindle and installing Koreader on it was enough for me. Now I can directly download books from my calibre server on my Kindle
- Comment on The first folding e-reader is smaller than a paperback 3 weeks ago:
Yeah my Kindle is around 6 Inch as well, which while it fits my back pocket, not something I’m keen to carry with me everywhere, I only like reading on my slow e ink screen when I have free time to comfortably sit and relax, which is usually at home or back when I had an hour long train commute to work. Otherwise my phone is better, audio books in particular are really good to listen to while walking or doing some activity.
- Comment on The first folding e-reader is smaller than a paperback 3 weeks ago:
Who asked for this, I don’t expect many people want a pocket able e reader to carry around every day, I carry my shitty old Kindle in my backpack if needed, otherwise I just listen to audio books or read ebooks on my phone
