depending on your household’s browsing habits, it can be downright insane how much traffic goes through ones network (and the web at large), that is just nothing but dog shit.
I monitored my pihole at my place and my own traffic is usually no more than 15% garbage with about 750,000 domains blocked, but the second grandma or grandpa starts doomscrolling boomer things on their phones and ipads. I saw the network traffic at 60% blocked one time and I had to confront them and flatly ask them “what the fuck are you doing on your phone?”
also set up a Region exemption or whatever, blocking russian, chinese, and a whole bunch of other untrustworthy TLDs and im literally showing my grandmother the repeated attempts to communicate with something in fucking China in real time whilst she’s playing some solitare game she downloaded.

Not even a linux guy, but I had a Pi from a decade ago that I never opened, decided to set it up and use it for something useful, friends suggested Pihole. pained myself for 2 days getting everything working (most of my trouble had to do with peripherals and IP addresses not the device itself) but after the grief, got it working and it was well worth it.
I even printed a sticker for it that said “where ads go to die”

the countries that are panicking about birth control are also the countries that think they’re going to be at war in the next generation or two. And the demographic situation is already bad in the countries that aren’t already shooting.

Im just going to ride it out until it explodes. the tech market is so messed up right now that I’ll end up paying more than what I did for my Machine in 2019, and it will be comparatvely, nowhere near as much as a performance jump as when I made the last switch from my 2012 build.

I’ve tried so many methods that ended in failure, I just gave up and learned to live without
different devices, AFAIK my work PC, personal desktop and both my old and new phone are probably comprmised somehow
tried using incognito mode, different browsers, coupled with different emails. even caved and tried a VPN,
always ended the same way. Make the account, and it gets shadowbanned as soon as I post. Even tried posting in completely different subs instead of the usual suspects.
until I commit to getting a burner laptop or some other device, they got me . I just dont care enough to go that extra step, its fucken reddit. the only thing reddit is good for is niche interest communities, hobbies, etc. the usual swill with News Politics and Sports is just blood pressure raising brainrot

only place I’ve ever been banned from here was not paying attention to which “channel” I was in since I dont fully understand how Lemmy works, and I ended up posting a comment to a thread I saw come up on the main page of lemmy.world when it was actually a lemmy.ml link, and people over there, most of them dont take too kindly to you insulting their Russian overlords,
