Decided to start growing my hair out. previously did the ‘im a dude, shave it’ haircut all the time.
Would one be best to change from the usual man’s barbershop to a salon, or a place that would focus more on women’s hair? I really don’t want anyone to screw around with it this time around or cut it short.
A good male barber can do long male haircuts or short. I wouldn’t expect a woman’s salon to be as familiar with men’s haircuts. I’d go on instagram and check out the barbers in my area.

I’ve seen my barber do women’s hair and be fine.
I would trust a salon to do men’s long hair without a doubt though.
Naw, go to a a salon. Every barber shop I have entered when I had long hair have said, unless you want it short find someone else.
One of the regulars in my shop is a barber and he admits he only knows short hair.
Try the “I’m a dude, ignore it” method, you don’t need someone to not cut your hair. If it needs trimmed fire or an industrial accident will take care of it, man style
There’s no shame in taking care of your hair, regardless of gender. It’s called “hygiene”
Um, no, it is called grooming.
Hygiene is keeping clean.

I went over a decade where my only haircuts were handing a pair of scissors to a drunk girl at a party and pointing to a spot on my ponytail.
Worked great.
Be aware - if you choose a salon, they’ll probably try and sell you a bunch of “hair products” that you don’t need, like expensive shampoos, conditioners, gels, and stuff.
Then again, this advice is coming from someone who buys whatever is on sale at the grocery store. You do you.
You can say no to product offers.
I knew a girl in college whose parents swore by that thing. At first, I thought your link would go to the Flowbee website, and I was amazed that it was still being sold lol
I got one after a particularly bad experience with a barber.
Not a bad haircut. He was just an asshole.
I used to go a barber shop where you’d either write your name on their whiteboard under the name of the barber you wanted, or you’d just come in and sit down and get the next guy who was available.
Originally I didn’t care, but I’d end up with one short, older guy. I’m tall and long in the torso, so he’d complain that he couldn’t get the chair low enough, so I’d have to basically slide down in the chair until I was sitting on my back for him, with my tailbone over the edge of the seat.
That gets uncomfortable, so I started picking one of the taller barbers.
One day I was in a hurry and I didn’t want to wait for the tall guy, so I didn’t put my name up.
The guy took several people ahead of me who came in after me. At first I thought it was just people who stepped out and came back, but eventually I realized he was skipping me. Eventually one of the other barbers noticed and said something to him, and he started bitching about how I didn’t want him cutting my hair.
I didn’t know I was breaking up with a girlfriend. I thought he was just a barber.
The barber who confronted him took me next. I gave him a massive tip, and then I came home and ordered the flowbee.
That was a few years before the pandemic, and I’ve been using it ever since.
Dude just find a good barber you trust Doesn’t matter where you go, you just need someone who knows your hair type and how to cut it
I have long hair and I take care of it. I haven’t been to a barbar or salon for over 20 years.
yeah that will be fine and all when it’s long. but it just hit that mullet/scraggly look in the back. I need a minor trim or layering or something to get it to grow more. once it gets weighted down by itself I’d be in the same boat I reckon
You just let it grow, man. It don’t need messing with, just time.
Tips from someone who went from short hair to long hair during COVID and has stuck with it. Barber shop vs salon doesn’t necessarily matter. You need someone with experience with your hair type. I have curly hair that doesn’t really show as curly when short. The barber shop that I had been going to for years botched my haircut because the barber wasn’t as familiar with longer hair and less familiar with curly hair.
My wife asked her stylist for a recommendation for a stylist that was familiar with my hair type. That made all the difference. I’ve been seeing this same stylist for 3 years now
yeah this is the kinda thing I wanted to hear. I’m not even sure what my long hair type is like. I know shaved
I just left the ‘young Beiber’ hair and it’s entering the early stages of mullet/hockey helmet. wanna get on top of before it becomes crazy.

It can be handled by both but you need to bear in mind that most barbers are uhhh they just don’t understand long hair. Ask them to keep it a medium length they’re gonna give you something short. Its’ really a question of what risk you’re willing to handle.
yeah I had this experience when I kinda started. had it long and asked for the barber to do something, I had no cluem I’m your canvas I said.
they instantly whipped out the trimmers. wasn’t too pleased but whatever. it’s hair. mine grows in QUICK so I never cared but now I’d like something done. just don’t know what.
I think I’ll checkout some salons. rip wallet lol
If you have curly hair you would be best served finding a stylist who knows how to properly cut curly hair.
I’d say it straight, but for sure turns into hockey helmet hair might quick lol. just entering a short mullet stage right now. kinda don’t want it like that lol too much party time
It really depends on what you want to do with it, though I’d recommend a salon
The Barber’s hair is long because he’s not allowed to cut it himself.

Many salons do men’s and women’s hair, most barbershops only do men’s. So I would think a salon (choose one that does both)
