Then Google deleted my email
That’s the scariest part.
This is also why segmentation is important.
I don’t want all my shit tied to one account or one “ecosystem” that can be compromised, enshittified, or subject to someone’s agenda.
It honestly sounds like a relief for someone that wants to exit the google ecosphere.
The tiny silver lining. So if you want to leave the google ecosphere you just have to expose massive corruption and humanitarian crimes committed by a country. I imagine catching enough ICE footage might grant you that(?)
Not if that email is important
I started migrating away from gmail at the start of the year. Next is Android. I’m do e with Google. Wish there was something else like YouTube tho.
For email you should also get your own domain. So it’s much easier to move to another email provider when you inevitably need to migrate again.
I moved to NewPipe. No ads, can import yt playlists and subscriptions so you don’t have to start over, and it plays in the background or when the phone screen is off
remember ISRAEL paid google 45mil to shill pro-zionist propaganda on youtube with ads.
I’m currently migrating to Proton mail. It’s comlicated because I have nearly 25 years of gmail use, using it for everything requiring an email address.
I highly recommend shelling out the $12 a year for a domain to tie to your email through Proton, that way, if Proton starts to enshitify, you can change email providers without having to migrate all your accounts to a new email. I am actually going through the exact same process, and I never want to have to do it again lol.
Domains are just useful to have anyway
Oh that’s clever!
As someone who has gone to proton and back. I do not recommend it. The service is mostly OK, their android apo never delivers notifications probably because of the lack of play services, and while every client is open source and is guaranteed to be e2ee to other proton accounts, there are two huge issues with this:
If I understand their documentation correctly, you can set up PGP for communicating with non-Proton e-mail recipients.
Which enail provider do you recommend?
I never had any problems with their Android apps. The notifications have always worked for me.
And of course email is plain text and is stored on other servers when you send it. It’s always been that way. Whatever service you use it’s going to be the same problem. This isn’t Proton specific. So I don’t get your point here.
However, whatever you receive and keep, that’s encrypted and no one can read it. And that’s the whole point of having a secure encrypted email service like Proton.
I migrated off of Proton Mail, they have no way to access your calendar from outside Proton’s apps and web services, you can’t access Proton Drive on Linux (and the workarounds never worked for me), and you need to keep running their decryptor tool if you want to use an email client other than their mail client.
Email is inherently insecure, zero knowledge encryption is worth nothing when 99% of your emails are being sent and received in plaintext. I’m on Fastmail now.
I often find the need for Proton’s encrypted email to be sonewhat dubious when Proton can’t (or won’t) fight secret court orders to collect logs on users.
Please explain to me how Fastmail is more secure if you can easily set up any client without encryption? Or am I missing something? And when Fastmail sends or receives email, isn’t it also sent in plain text because of the SMTP protocol anyway?
yeet Proton, those turn over any activist to authorities and soon will sell out more broadly
check out GDPR champions StartMail, same as StartPage, from the netherlands
Before going all in on Proton, just make sure you’re okay with the ceo’s statements on politics. To some people its enough to not switch over, to others its unfortunate but the product is too good not to switch.
Yes the CEO is an idiot for having said that one statement once about supporting a Trump appointed candidate and doubling down on what he said. But he didn’t donate to anyone’s campaign, he didn’t donate to any PACs or any other political organization. He doesn’t actively support Trump other than that one time. And he’s committed to protecting my privacy at all costs. On top of that, their line or services is one of the most complete next to Google.
Honestly it’s not that big a deal compared to Google that financed Trump’s campaign and it’s CEO actually being present at his inauguration, executing his every order, and being zionist enablers and pro-genocide, doing deals with Isreal to provide all kinds of services and spreading their propaganda on their platform and erasing all evidence of said genocide.
It’s 2025, at this point people really need to understand that YouTube is not your friend and doesn’t exist to further your cause.
It’s a money making outfit not a means to social change. All of its incentives only allow it to try and make money at all costs.
At this point you need to host your own shit or suffer the whims of those who do.
I got shadowbanned by Reddit after nearly 20 years on the platform. No justification given. No response to appeal.
Yes.
sounds like an AI did it, i think it happened to everyone beginning of FEB. plus there were also site wide banning people. at first they dint care about you having multiple accounts participating in the same sub, since they had off-the books rule of unbanning automatically after a certain amount of time. now with all those purges, the AI look for previous violations even the ones you were unbanned, they “shadowbanned”. plus now they look any account that remotely “resembles botting/spamming and banning people” NEW AND old inactive accounts are very susceptible to be being ban without reason.
I agree, seems like some overzealous algorithm.
But a human could have responded to the appeal, taken a look and at least replied.
I’m guessing Israel is sending bogus copyright strikes over content that they dislike, taking advantage that YouTube is 100% run by bots with no way to contact a human supervisor
Ars has an article on this where it is confirmed that this is YouTube bowing to Trump and his sanctions of these groups due to their work with the ICC against Netanyahu.
And this is why open platforms matter.
No fucking shit? Why would anyone think YouTube would let any videos of murder stay up on their service? There are so many legitimate problems but this ain’t one chief
But Google went a step further and deleted his email, and won’t respond to appeals. I get removing it from YouTube, but deleting his email proves they likely have bad intentions.
Would they complain if a israeli video hoster deleted his videos? Same thing. Israel-interests = US-interests.
fuck google. they have been forcing me to degoogle everyday more and more for the last 5 years. they deleted my gmails and locked me forever repeatedly. I wish there was a reasonable priced phone to ditch android store as well. I have a big disgusting family that is draining me out every penny I could earn; I can’t afford a $1000 phone for myself though it’s been on my wishlist for over a year
yet people keep going back to craptube and not supporting any new platforms
You can’t post the videos Hamas records of their own deeds on YouTube either.
Youtube really isn’t the place for these types of videos, no matter what side you are on. Gruesome videos of any sort is against their guidelines.
They belong on news websites, not some social media for entertainment.
Of course deleting their mailbox is a no go.

I don’t know how to make PeerTube bigger, but I don’t see a better option for the Internet’s future than fediverse.
Battle_Masker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 days ago
Only option I see in the foreseeable future is odyssee (a good sized but still not big youtube alt) gets wildly popular, gets a load of market shareholders, and worries enough about public image to kick the nazi punks off.
Or dailymotion dials back some of its restrictions. Either or

It is hard, video is the most data heavy type of social meda, I think we should keep our expectations reasonable.
That being said, Peertube is already pretty damn cool. The foundations are there and it is really exciting.

I totally agree! I run my own PeerTube instance and it has been so much fun to see people discovering my videos and live streams. And also finding funny/cool/interesting videos. Where no one is worried about engagement, the algorithm, monetization, etc.
