I am new to this whole Fediverse stuff. Trying to privatize my life and break away from big tech.
But I have to ask, why are you guys here and not on Reddir? Where the population us much larger and its basically the same? It appears a few instances dominate this landscape anyway?
Its not like this is unchecked social media, they still moderate these places right? So what’s the benefit?
I’m still on Reddit for certain communities. But most of r/all and r/popular is just manufactured slop with bot-driven voting. It’s an outrage machine, like Facebook now.

TBF with you I’ve been here for more than a year and only miss 1 single community, and I don’t have to “go back” to see the posts (which is what matters).
I use Reddit through Relay and it’s gone now. Even if I want to use Reddit, I have to jump through hoops to use it.
I have no moral reasons like most do really.
I'm just tired of reddit. I'm tired of doomscrolling anything actually. even the fediverse.
I intentionally only seek chill and meme subreddit/comms. and even then some people just can't help tripping themselves shoving negative crap onto meme comms.
Privately owned centralized platforms like Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, etc, are a recipe for disaster. So I left.
Why am I on Lemmy and not any other social media? I had read about it on Reddit, but I hopped on as soon as I heard about the API changes. The writing was on the wall, and I remembered this place as being popular. I’m also down to try new sites, so if you have any other recommendations, I’m here for them.

I’m on reddit too. The vibe here is a little different and I like variety.
The main reason is that they took away my preferred app, and the official app is excessively noisy (visually) to the point that I just can’t parse anything on the screen without huge effort. Doom scrolling is supposed to be brain off time, not brain work extra hard time.
Because I got banned for “threatening violence” one too many times and every case was me making a joke about getting rid of fascists by any means necessary.
I’ve hated Reddit since back when shitredditsays was in its hay day, and after they banned the Chapo subreddit I retreated to only really using a few local subreddits to keep track of local news.
When the exodus started two ish years ago I jumped on the bandwagon and haven’t logged back into Reddit ever since.
I call y’all reddit.world as a joke but you aren’t nearly as bad.

Only started with Reddit last year, left when the country it's based in started to threaten the country I'm in and a bunch of others, too.

I’m at both. I pay for relay for reddit because that was my app in the before times so I didn’t really have to do anything. I’m here so I can eventually get off reddit because while I still pay to use it. It’s a shell of its former self. The growth set lemmy is pretty slow however not sure why there is so little content and new users. We are kind of stuck.
How does it work? You can pay for third party apps for reddit? How much does it cost?
