- Comment on Realistcly how much can be cleaned out of a house, as a child of a hourder? 1 day ago:
Inherited a 3 bedroom house from my mom and it was full (overfull) of her stuff. My house had 4 full bedrooms. Both had full garages. Like you, it’s just stuff- not trash , though some was old mail and magazines.
I have big trash pickup every Wednesday. I usually put things on the curb on Saturday and Sunday and much of it is gone before the trash people come. I like knowing that it’s going to someone instead of a landfill.
Other items were donated to a local organization that runs a thrift store.
About 40 bags of clothing and bedding went to my cleaning lady. She keeps what she can use and the rest goes to her church. They offer it to people here and the rest goes to the border. We tease that in a few months we will turn on the news to see everyone at the border dressed like my mom. ❤️
The ‘mementos’ or items that i feel nostalgic or sentimental about - I’ve learned that it takes me 3 times of interacting with items to decide what i definitely want to keep and what can go. I’ve also learned to be ok with that. I can narrow from 10 boxes to 7, then to 5, and if those sit in a closet for s year before i do more, so be it.

You must work where i work, in public education. Too many administrators without enough to do, who just keep stirring the pot and then scheduling meetings about the shitstorm they created.
- Comment on [NSQ] What are you actually looking forward to this year? 1 week ago:
Hoping my son ends his break with us.
Making a decision about retirement and hopefully not regretting it.

That’s what i had for dinner last night and tonight and i will probably make soup or enchiladas from the rest Saturday. It was $5.49.

My son is a mechanic so it’s often chilly at work. He uses those rechargeable hand warmers in his shirt pockets.

I can’t wait to have French toast Saturday morning! Breakfast tacos Sunday morning! And maybe some beef bourguignon, chili, or chicken soup. The house i live in now was without power for 4 days in 2021. Fingers crossed!!

Fake solution to a non-problem.
I made a deal with my freezer so it would give up the chicken nuggets that i put there last week.
- Comment on YSK Tips for a Winter Storm 4 weeks ago:
Question for people who live in colder climates - why is it always so hot indoors? When I’ve been in new York, Chicago, Milwaukee, etc. in the winter it’s miserable inside. It’s 12 degrees outside and you step into a restaurant or shop where it feels like it’s 80 degrees. You’re immediately sweating because you have a jacket, gloves, etc. and you have to find someplace to put them.
- Comment on I'm about to get fired. How do I make sure my next job is a better place to work? 5 weeks ago:
Start looking, but let them fire you so you can get unemployment while you’re searching for something better.

True, but this guy was a stoned ding dong who was just doing what he had to do to make it through day after day coaching middle schoolers. One in five teachers are high, dumb, or crazy- or some combo. Some of those are really great teachers, some suck, most are somewhere between.

I used to work with a guy who i often didn’t understand. I thought he was cool or witty or smart and it was just over my head. Then i realized he was usually high.

We did wills and trusts for our moms before they passed (i fucked up my mom’s trust and had to probate) but we haven’t done our own yet. That’s our January plan.
- Comment on Age, death, and inheritance. 5 weeks ago:
One stops by frequently and calls or texts daily (I’m home, Love you guys, cat photos, …). The other hasn’t spoken to us since July. This made me realize that we need to choose an executor that’s outside the family.

Twitter was really good for following bars and music venues to check happy hours and concert dates. Not much use beyond that.
- Comment on Where are the marketing volunteers? 1 month ago:
That’s us. When we write reviews or share things.
Off topic- I never understand why people in commercials are so awkward when they recommend things. I send things to my friends all the time…check out these yoga pants with pockets, Kroger has blackberries on sale, look at Kitty Lulu in the new dog bed, etc. Why is it so hard for fakers to appear genuine?
- Comment on How do you "process" hundreds of tabs you haven't gotten a chance to look through? 1 month ago:
A topic comes up and I remember that I have a bookmark about that topic and that’s usually the only way I get back to it.
Occasionally I block off time, like 15 minutes, where I scroll through and delete the ones that I no longer care about. Kind of the same thing I do with emails and photos.

I bookmark them and close them so at least they’re out of sight.

- Comment on Say, the country/countries you have citizenship in, decided to not want you anymore and threw you to some random "3rd world country", how do you survive? 1 month ago:
I work in healthcare and husband works in engineering. Hopefully we could live cheaply enough to survive on the $ we have and possibly be viewed as helpful enough to the community to gain some level of security.

We just turned a closet into a big shower- almot 5’ x 5’. Now we walk around and have conversations in there in the morning. Also, I’ve had two knee surgeries this fall and it’s awesome to have the extra space for a temporary bench and for my honey to step in and take my crutches.
