- Comment on Doctors are using unapproved AI software to record patient meetings, investigation reveals 2 days ago:
What’s wrong with Apple Notes?
I assume it’s because of HIPAA requirements. The doctor is essentially recording patient information into his private Apple account. Obviously that depends on what info he was putting there. If it was just mundane stuff like scheduling, then it’s probably fine.

All privacy is security, but not all security is privacy.

Yeah I got an email from our solar panel company that they’re filing for bankruptcy. I just hope whoever picks them up doesn’t jack up lease prices to make up for it.

There are a lot of AI-generated videos already, so they’ll be trained by generated content as well. The system is eating itself.

- Comment on What's a good instance to be on at the moment? 1 week ago:
.zip has the closest instance policies to .ee. A lot of .ee refugees moved there (included). Some also moved to piefed if you’re considering that.
- Comment on Best place for a community alternative to Facebook group? 1 week ago:
Assuming your group has a considerable amount of non tech savvy people, I would suggest Friendica just for the familiarity, since it’s supposed to be like facebook and it would be easier for people to use. I don’t know if it has groups though. You might also sacrifice admin/mod capabilities. I’m not familiar how good friendica’s admin tools are (if any).

- Comment on Lemmy.zip proxied images not embedding properly in Alexandrite 1 week ago:
I brought it up with the admin 2 weeks ago and they said they sent a message to the Alexandrite dev. So I’m guessing it’s an Alexandrite thing. Although it’s weird that it works fine on my lemm.ee account.
- Comment on WhatsApp is officially getting ads 1 week ago:
The only reason I have WhatsApp is because my neighborhood group chat uses it. I won’t be able to convince an entire community to switch to Signal. Maybe I can try to tell them to move over because some dumbass sent the group invite link in the zoom chat during the townhall meeting that included the (corporate) HOA and developer.
- Comment on Study: Remote working benefits fathers while childless men miss sense of community 1 week ago:
Another person already said it, but the issue is the lack of third spaces. You don’t need to physically go to an office to get a sense of community. Working remotely makes it easier to get a sense of community if there are third spaces because you’re not stuck in a building for 8 hours. If your only source of community is your workplace, then you have other problems.

- Comment on Press F to pay respects 2 weeks ago:
Scroll down to the bottom of both instances’ home pages using the default lemmy UI. You’ll see the version of lemmy they use. You’ll also see a link labeled as Legal, which contains most of the instance’s policies. The Instances link will show you what instances they are federated and defederated with. The modlog can also give you some insight on what’s happening on the instance. Combine that with all the other information on their sidebars and you’ll get a rough idea of how different they are managed.
It also helps if you’ve been on lemmy for a while because you would’ve directly experienced or witnessed any issues or controversies those instances have been involved with.
- Comment on Press F to pay respects 2 weeks ago:
For .ee users still deciding on an instance to jump to, I chose .zip because it’s managed similarly:
- Similar defederation policy
- Runs the latest version of lemmy
- Defederated from Threads
Others moved to piefed.social.
- Comment on Press F to pay respects 2 weeks ago:
Talk about over exaggeration lol. Lemm.ee was fine and well run, I enjoyed it more than being on .world. They just didn’t have enough people willing to be admins.
- Comment on Lemmy.zip sucks and the moderators are snowflakes 2 weeks ago:
Care to expound on that? I picked .zip to migrate to from .ee

Are you able to share which group? A lot of older bands that have declined in popularity over the years play for rich people at private parties.

They’re testing something and you’re one of the lucky winners to be sampled. Usually it goes away in a day or until uBO catches up and deploys an update.

- Comment on What is twingyeo.kr? Why can’t I go on the site? 2 weeks ago:
Found this: github.com/sponsors/twingyeo-kr.
A quick translation says:
Hello, twingyeo.kr is a Mastodon instance operated by Team Onstables Co., Ltd. Currently, in order to create a ‘space where everyone can rest comfortably’, our instance is covering all operating costs with the income from the software development sector of Team Unstablers Co., Ltd., the main operator, without any means of generating profits such as advertising.
Maybe the instance is down that’s why it’s unreachable.

- Comment on Why are you here and not on Reddit? 2 weeks ago:
That’s the beauty of decentralization. If a billionaire somehow wants to buy a lemmy instance (unlikely), and the instance owners agree (unlikely), users will just switch to a different instance and other instances will just defederate from it (likely).
