  Societal alienation makes for the best art and metal is no exception. Metalheads trying to exclude someone for being different (NSBM excepted) have completely missed the point of the entire genre.

      A lot of first wave and early norwegian black metal bands were essentially proto-NSBM. Nazis have been a part of black metal for as long as it’s been around. For a long while black metal had a reputation for being full of fascists

    Yeah, some genres have a large segment of people who struggle to fit in with the mainstream. I’d like to think that they pick up something about social liberalism vs traditionalism from that, but there’s apparently also a significant segment who want as strict traditions as the mainstream, they just want somewhat different traditions.

  I don’t know where this is coming from because I grew up in the era of Marilyn Manson, the Murderdolls and Dir En Grey (etc.) Where gender was some fluid shit and everybody vibed with it.

  Even though I don’t like them, I also remember Rammstein playing around with gender expression.

  Overall, my personal experience with metal since teenhood in the 2000s is that metalheads are extremely chill and open minded and the bigots are some fringe groups here and there that nobody likes to talk to anyways.

    I dunno what to tell you but women can be nazis too.

    Besides, every hobby has assholes in it. But because there are a few pieces of shit in metal, doesn’t mean all of metal is racist or sexist. That’s like saying people who like science fiction are nazis and misogynist because Wernher von Braun wrote Project Mars.

    And last I checked, metal didn’t embrace nazis. There are fringe nazi sympathizers in metal, but metal as a whole is repulsed by nazisism. They just can’t control what some people do. Just like how punk can’t control of there are a few nazi punk bands out there no matter how much they try to reject them.

    It genuinely pisses me off how such a small group of assholes can get so many people to act like metal as a whole is racist. It was no different back in the 2000s where my parents also wanted me to stop listening to it because my dad found one article about a guy who beat up his girlfriend and he apparently liked Metallica.

    This is the blaming video games for school shooters argument all over again. And back then, metal was blamed for that too.

      My dad once picked me up from a party when I was in high school in the 1980s; he noticed a video that was playing on MTV and was highly disturbed by the imagery in it, as he told me later (many times).

      The video was “Cuts Like a Knife” by Bryan Adams. My dad thought he was losing me to Satan because of fucking Bryan Adams!

    Reason for deleting my comment: not interested in ‘discussing’ anything with people who go “men and women the same” when there’s literally stats and figures that prove otherwise and the growing ideological divide between men and women is a real concern. If I had to bring up those facts, one of these snowflakes would just report my comments for ‘hate’ or something. Because that’s how these people prefer to do it. Sticking their heads in the ground and going “not all men” out of their backsides, rather than ever acknowledging that there are any problems and working to solve them.

    Nah, it’s pretty much the same. Maybe they’re less vocal about it because they’re already worried about being accepted in a male dominated field. But being as horrible as possible is pretty even across the sexes in other areas, so probably this one as well.

    I agree that people are often unfairly dismissive of Metal as a genre.

    But people are also often unfairly dismissive of Rap and Hip Hop. A lot of the time that dismissal is rooted in racism.
