Thats some goddamn thought police shit.
Also tells you how goddamn awful the powers that be are, that the only way they can stop criticism of their badness is to ban anyone that even gives the lowest effort agreement with the criticism.

And now I’m here!
The people running Reddit are so useless that they can’t ban things they don’t like fast enough, so they have to punish their userbase for their ineptitude.
God damn reddit dropped the ball so hard over the years
wow so many newcomers in this thread. Welcome guys!
Reddit got digged.
Digg died before it had to face any of what reddit turned into. I envy it, really.
Honestly what reddish did/is doing is far far worse than what digg did.
Reddit was lucky no-one else was really around to take away their user base. Lemmy is good, but it’s too hard to setup for the average schmoe
It warms my heart seeimg all these 👶 emojis! Welcome all new lemmyheads!
What front end do you use? I don’t see them on Jerboa app.
Voyager 👍
Same here, it’s good to see more people using lemmy
Hehe this very thing on reddit is what brought me here. Thanks for the welcome!
It’s what brought me here too! Glad to see quite a few of us moved over lol
Yeah that was my last straw with reddit
15 years on reddit. Multiple accounts banned for slamming Nazis. So I’m here slamming Nazis. Long live Lemmy.
I got that warning yesterday and it finally pushed me to make a Lemmy account.
Gather round, children, and listen to the story of El Scapacabra
My boost 3rd party reddit app stopped working yesterday and they prompted me to download Boost for Lemmy. Went ‘what the heck’ and now here I am.
Lol, that’s another way for them to drive away their user base I guess. Their loss, welcome to you as well!
Welcome my dude/dudette.
Thank you! :)
Reddit says the vast majority of users will not be affected Is that because the vast majority of users are bots? 🤔
reddit died when it became a publicly traded company. now it is just another propaganda tool
Grateful to be here and help this place grow. I’m so over Reddit.
Hey to everyone moving in from reddit. Don’t forget that lemmy can’t fill the void you’re trying to fill without content.
Thanks to the federated nature of lemmy, we have infrastructure, we just need more creators on it.
Need all the people that post content for the many porn subreddits to post here. Main reason why I’m still there.
The permabans they are issuing in large numbers kinda indiscriminately is causing them to flee to their sites
Genuine Question: What do you think of ATProtocol and the apps for it: Bluesky, Spark, Flashes?
I don’t use the protocol, so I can’t give much opinion
Welp, just moved into Lenny, hello yall
Hello. There are thousands of us!
We’re beyond dozens?!?!
Anddddd this is how and why I found lemmy.
Welcome my dude/dudette.
Welcome! I was permanently banned on Reddit back in June of 2024 because I said I hope the libs of TikTok monster would be hit by a bus.
Reddit going full mask-off 1984 huh? Next thing it’ll be illegal to downvote things Reddit likes to push… Or why even bother with the votes anyway, Reddit will just show you only the things that it deems good for you, like the benevolent Big Brother.
Fuck that place.
Also: welcome to all our new members! “We’re Not Perfect, But At Least We’re Not Reddit!” ™
I had the strangest experience on Reddit that was the final drop for me to leave. In a thread of lousy jokes, I commented something along the lines of “This is all the fault of Leon Trotsky of Mexico City! Let’s find him and get him, boys!”
It was flagged as doxxing and I was permabanned from the subreddit. I replied to the modmail ever so gently, saying, “Whoops, it looks like my poor sense of humor may have been misinterpreted, because Trotsky was famously assassinated in 1940.”
The mod came back absolutely lamenting me, riddled with explitives, further calling my username a “racist dog whistle” (my username there is the same as here but suffixed with a number). They then proceeded to attempt to have me banned sitewide for “abusing modmail,” although I was ultimately only suspended for 7 days.
The whole thing just left me so confused. But boy was that mod upset, holy moly.
lamenting
I believe you mean “lambasting”.
Good grief, modern education has really failed that person if they don’t recognise the nam Leon Trotsky. He’s basically responsible for at least three chapters in any history textbook worth reading. Your post was CLEARLY a joke to anyone with half a brain.
But hey, I’m not surprised at what happened. Because the quality of moderation really took a nosedive since the API fiasco. Lots of not-shitty mods jumped ship or got banned, leaving only folks like that in charge: petty, dumb little dictators.
Well, we’re glad to have you here :D
Like YouTube hiding the dislike button or something, enshittification is in full effect.
Hopefully someone eventually leaks how much Reddit is manipulated by bots. Politics being a major sub where it’s obvious.
They even posted on the site that half of the comments in many subs are by bots, mostly political ones
How about make a flag with ‘is banned’ that indicates it is banned, and then checking whether ‘is banned’ exists before allowing a post to be upvoted. You can use this for free Reddit, its a gift.
There’s some other variation, like restricted besides the sub, like you can’t even comment on that sub, so you are softbanned. I had a sub I was able to comment on, and then suddenly last year I couldn’t, they removed the reply button
I was waiting for Reddit to bend in the same way the others have. It was only a matter of time.
Reddit doesn’t just bend over, they help insert it in.
Lemmy won’t.
I imagine some instances might ban users for upvoting certain things, you know…
So long, my daily streak.
I’m workin on switching over. My third party work-around just croaked yesterday, so I’m here now. Where the party at?
They will sell your Idea as a premium feature now
Boost?
niche communities are still struggling due to the chicken-and-egg problem (and reddit dominance), but it’s improving
if there is a party, it’s about lemmy’s inevitable growth amidst reddit enshittification
I think Reddit should be less strict on their ban policy. In my opinion, bans should not usually be permanent and certain disturbing content should be limited to certain subreddits and strictly prohibit any illegal content (under California or any Western law).
They were like that before, but the last few months that have been super aggressive in banning people, they originally paid no attention to accounts commenting on subs that were banned years ago, they decided that was no longer the case. And also people getting shadow banned out of the blue too
Sounds like its time to completely flood Reddit with ‘bannable’ content
I’m loving this. I had almost 15 years without so much as a warning and then suddenly several 3 day bans, a 7 day ban and a perma ban. They don’t want people commenting negatively towards fascism.
I had a 3 day temp ban last month, and the suddenly all my alternate accts were sitewide banned for evasion. And I only reported someone, that resulted in my initial ban
After my first 3 day ban for a shit Boeing starliner joke (that actually became sort of became true), I deleted my top ranked posts on a 15 year old account and left. Still go back as unknown user for Google searches but that may also stop someday.
Same.
8 years smooth sailings.
Got perma-banned in the span of 6 months.
It’s amazing how they tolerated people preaching for violence against women and immigrants for over a decade, but all of sudden their passion for non-violence is so extreme after a rich white guy gets killed.
Actually because musk complained about white people Twitter and that got banned, and then they tried to eliminate subreddit contrary to maga, and was caught doing it, their excuse was no moderation for those subs. Then they went hats off on banning people, any posts that’s been removed, instant flagged acct, and then some bans don’t even make sense at all.
Nobody does class consciousness better than old money.
They know what’s good for them and have no qualms about fucking over millions of people to make it happen.
Reddit sets the threshold for violent content really low. At one point someone asked if a prisoner who is medically revived from the dead has served their life sentence, I answered that you have to be irrevocably dead, and admins said that promoted or glorified violence. I made no mention of violence whatsoever, nothing I said encouraged violence in any way, and somehow even on appeal they didn’t realize how ridiculous that was.
Maybe if they actually had good moderators to prevent that content getting upvoted in the first place…

And that was the final push to get me to make an account over here. Fucking hell
