Exactly the same. I got critical of the right and all of a sudden banned for violence ? After 12 years ? And me NEVER calling for harm to anything.
But I got hyper critical of the right and that’s what did it.
Reddit is and has failed.

Yeah, i got banned because i literally told someone to fix their bot that had spammed me for years!!!
I didn’t even say anything that crazy, just called Elon Musk a potato and they nuked my 14 year account.
So here I am. How is it so far?
They’re selective about who’s protected by that rule too. I got banned for saying shit about child molesters while there was simultaneously a thread on the front page with people saying the same shit about a business executive. Those comments were still up weeks after I appealed my ban asking what the difference was.
Same! Hello fellow 12 years on reddit expat
I actually came here today because of this! So far so happy with Lemmy
Same here! Reddit’s wild for thinking people will stick around after a stunt like this. Let them go deaf in their own capitalist bot filled echo chamber, the rest of us will move on.
Me too!
Me as well. I’m glad I learned about Lemmy.
same reason here
Fuck reddit.
Yeah. Except for some niche subs I haven’t miss it at all. And thanks to Privacy Redirect add-on, I haven’t visited Reddit itself for a long time. Since it still has some useful info that floods the search engines.
You can get a copy of reddit data from just before It happened, run your very own searchable database. No need to go there at all.
We should streal r/place and do it yearly
I guess it will just be full of Fuck Spez and Fuck [(un)elected president]
Yeah I got signaled on reddit for saying something about Trump, Elon and Vance regarding to Ukraine. Nothing that hasn’t been said, but I said they can fuck off and stop propping Russian imperialism and kidnapping children while commiting warcrimes. Guess Reddit is against that as they removed my comment and gave me a warning.
Also biased admins, there are places that are manipulated for disinformation purposes. It is kind of scary, when the sceptical view point gets deleted or thread blocked for no other reason than harming their often made up narrative.
there are powermods, and some mods have control of 500 subs, i think 92 mods control just 500 of those subs, and some of them might be admins too/ or at least friends with admins.
Finally made the jump. Reddit is a right-wing cesspool of censorship.
Yep this is what finally did it for me to ditch that piece of junk
Welcome! Please create content, both by posting and commenting!
Help the community grow!
Welcome over! How’s the experience so far?
Right wing? You must be fucking high
Whatever makes you feel better. The user ase may be left-wing, the admins and mods screw heavily right-wing.
10 years on reddit, surprised about my comments never getting the same traction as identical comments. 3 days ban for insinuating a billionaire performing a Nazi salute may indeed be a Nazi, second ban for insinuating violent action sometimes needs to be taken in defense of democracy. Permaban for (politely and positively) judging the looks of someone that asked to be judged through a photography, and clearly needed lo lift up their self-esteem.
I rage quit reddit and delete my account that I opened long ago with the Google account I have recently cancelled.
The exact same comments I posted, with the exact same content and intention now get thousands of upvotes (so clearly, I had been shadowbanned for years)
Fuck them. Hello community, looking forward to have constructive interactions here.
I also was banned because I called nazi to a nazi (he was saying some sht about venezuelan and Colombian people in a south American subreddit, not even a US one)
Grateful to be here and help this place grow. I’m so over Reddit.
Someone posted this and that’s honestly scary. I hope more people abandon this sinking ship of Reddit.
Seems like lemmyverse needs to advertise on Reddit
They are sending this if you show support for Ukraine.
Yikes. More reasons to stop using Reddit. Слава Украине. (From a Russian-Ukrainian immigrant in Canada 🇨🇦🇺🇦)
Why is it scary?
Being banned/reported for what you upvote/downvote? That smell censorship
Let’s put it this way. I have been shadow-banned on Reddit. Got an e-mail saying my account appeared to be hacked after I responded to an apparent call for violence with an observation that we’re generally not violent as a group but as time goes by, things might change, and a warning that you have to be careful with what you say because Reddit has a rule against calling for violence. I did the steps to secure my account, but while the message wenty away, I have verified that all my comments disappear into the ether. Sure seems like a ban there.
And now, you can be banned for even LIKING a call for violence? And Reddit’s admins basically black-hole you if you have support questions of any kind. So, you like someone saying, say, “If this crap keeps going on, I might need to do something more than holding a sign, if you know what I mean,” and some Reddit power-tripper with a hardon for Trump clicks the ‘ban ur account’ button, and then you are stuck in read-only mode in reddit.
At this point, getting banned at reddit is a badge of honor.
Uh…the “badge of honor” would have been quitting back during api-gate and not looking back. Getting banned now just means one participated after that time, providing spez with traffic and value, and helped normalize the behaviour that is only just now a bridge too far.
Today, a ban is the “conciliatory prize of not thinking ahead”.
3rd party apps closing down I can see from a business point. Makes good business sense. Keep everyone on your shitty app and monetize it. I wasn’t for it but understood the greedy fucks behind it.
Now it’s just different. Banned for going against Nazis, just means they are in bed with Nazis. That’s the last straw.
Nah, just circumvent with revanced and poison the well.
I’m rocking a chest full of badges then.
i also give badges to people who can evade it successful with more sophisticated methods, of and advertisers for thier business.
I first saw this news over on Reddit, immediately searched for an alternative. Got home from work and now here I am
Welcome.
Best advice I can give you is to just give Lemmy some time. It can feel a bit empty at first because there’s less content than Reddit but
I’ve been on here 4 months and have already seen a major increase in users.
Spend some time seeking out subs and joining. At first I wasn’t finding enough new content to keep me occupied during various downtimes during the day, but now I’ve got more than enough new stuff every day to keep me entertained.
now I’ve got more than enough new stuff every day to keep me entertained.
You mean horrified/nauseous right? Maybe I’m doing it wrong.
I’m also kind of new, and if you’re doling out advice, I’ve got a quesiton: If I were interested in potentially modding someday, what kind of things should I learn/read up on to handle that kind of responsibility? I want to help build communities so I can selfishly enjoy them, but im feeling too new so far.
Thanks for the advice.
Yeah, I completely understand that it’s not gonna be as popular as Reddit immediately, but I know that if I felt the need to jump ship, other people will too.
I’m most just searching through All and sorting by new ATM trying to find some interesting things to read about and topics to discuss
I register on reddit 17 years ago. Before the great migration from digg. I remember /r/programming being the first sub to reach 100k subscribers.
I got banned for saying in the /r/europe sub that russia banning youtube in russia was a good thing because then we in the west would get less russian propaganda. Got banned for a couple days. Never looked back.
/r/programming is dead already since around a decade. All the good discussions moved to hackernews and lobsters.
never forget that spez admitted to silently edit user comments that criticized him
I guess thousands of redditors saying ‘fuck u/spez’ over and over got to him. I wonder it such comments would fly today.
one of the things i noticed, banning is a taboo on many reddit sub, you cant discuss bans in any form. although i think they misconstrued your comment.
Reddit sets the threshold for violent content really low. At one point someone asked if a prisoner who is medically revived from the dead has served their life sentence, I answered that you have to be irrevocably dead, and admins said that promoted or glorified violence. I made no mention of violence whatsoever, nothing I said encouraged violence in any way, and somehow even on appeal they didn’t realize how ridiculous that was.
That’s because no human is actually reviewing anything on Reddit. It’s all keywords and AI, and they didn’t care how often it gets it wrong as long as they don’t get negative coverage in the news.
It’s also the AI issuing most of these bans too.
Haha aaaaand that’s how I got here
I suspect this will drive a lot of people over here.
doubtful, people are still to addicted to reddit mainly the news and politics subs. people would have to get permabanned sitewide for them to come here or at least make even having thier only acct left walking on eggshells… like myself
I mean I think its a good web series. We format it similar to How I Met Your Mother.
Potential seasons Ellen Poa Quarantine Policy The Donald Ban API Changes WSB Mod Policy Changes
And that’s how I met Lemmy.
Wait, did the banning of the Donald rigger an migration event?? From whom and why??
I joined during the API season. Never looked back.
It’s horrifying especially to think how Reddit never did anything about the fucked up things incels would say they wanted to do to underage girls and women, or the literally jailbait, racist, insanity they’d share. Basically that stuff was always okay, but if you want to defend yourself against your oppressor? Banned for upvoting despite you didn’t even think the comment was “bannable”.
I got that warning yesterday and it finally pushed me to make a Lemmy account.
reddit permabans you for vague interpretations of things they consider “threatening”
its already a thought crime zone.
And that was the final push to get me to make an account over here. Fucking hell
Does saying “The only good fascist are really dead fascist” counts? What if I add that USA is a fascist country now? Will saying Donald is a pedophile still counts (I got banned for it already lol)? What about saying my favorite sport is nazi punching? And if I had that there’s no such thing as “roman salute”? Is Reddit about to drop a new t-shirt line “Protect fascist’s feeling” or something?
Reddit being the go to place for federal workers to explain what is happening on the fednews sub given reddit shadow banning new accounts and anti VPN stance is rather ironic with federal workers hiding their names and using stuff like signal out of fear of what the administration might do to them.
It warms my heart seeimg all these 👶 emojis! Welcome all new lemmyheads!
Yeah that was my last straw with reddit
Welp, just moved into Lenny, hello yall
I hope lemmy servers are ready for another population boom.
My link for this was deleted. Huh. I didn’t see this earier.
Anyways I think this is a dangerous chilling effect and reddit has a terrible track record for not using this as intended, so I can only expect Reddit Admins to use this beyond warning, I expect bans and this used in warrants/NSLs quickly.
Stop using reddit, stop going to reddit.
And that is why I’m here now. Hello fellow travellers!
I just created a Lemmy account because of this stupid policy. Republicans/Conservatives can spew all manner of hate without consequence and we upvote “Elbows Up” (a hockey term BTW) and we get banned? Screw that.
How about make a flag with ‘is banned’ that indicates it is banned, and then checking whether ‘is banned’ exists before allowing a post to be upvoted. You can use this for free Reddit, its a gift.
Conform, citizen.
Petter1@lemm.ee 2 months ago
Lol, how is it even possible to upvote banned content? I mean, is it not deleted if banned?
ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 2 months ago
Banned after you upvote it
See something that’s pro-Luigi? That’s banned content
Pro-lemmy? That’s banned content
Etc
InputZero@lemmy.world 2 months ago
This type of behavior is never tolerate on Reddit. You disagree with a Redditor, straight to ban. No trial, no nothing. There’s no journalists. We’ll have a special subreddit for journallists. Under represent a Republican, believe it or not ban. Over represent a Democrat, also ban. Reddit has the best users on the internet.
Probius@sopuli.xyz 2 months ago
They probably did this specifically because people were upvoting our favorite plumber.
conicalscientist@lemmy.world 2 months ago
It means accounts that consistently upvote posts that end up being banned.
The naive take is that this will remove bot/brigade swarms that are collaboratively boosting content that breaks site wide rules. You can derive ulterior motives from this if you want but I’m pretty sure that’s the basic premise.
I have no doubt this will be leveraged by the far-right to sow more discord. They already have a history of raiding subreddits with false flag attacks to get them sanctioned until it escalates into full blown subreddit ban. This is all but formalizing the mechanism.
finder585@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I think the real implication of the system is that Reddit will also start banning you for down-voting posts too.
HawlSera@lemm.ee 2 months ago
Users with banned accounts can still be responded to and they’ll even get emails about it
