My friend, you are about to see Mini Metro in every metropolitan subway system.
Just discovered Mini Metro, a puzzle game where you have to create metro lines. Very addictive, but also chill, and currently 50% off on Steam

Mini Metro is fantastic! Mini Motorways is somehow even better, although it is only available for the PC.

I cannot for the life of me figure out the overpasses in this game. I’ve done the tutorials tons of times and when I go to place one in the game, I’m obviously doing something wrong because it won’t let me place it or it places it in some convoluted way that I didn’t want.
I cannot find an explanation. I love the game but ultimately quit playing because of this.

Are you talking about the highways? If so, those gave me trouble at first too, but I figured it out. Once you select one from the toolbar, tap a point on the map. That’ll be where it starts. Then, tap the location of the destination, and the highway will form itself automatically connecting those two points.

Mini Moterways is an Apple Arcade exclusive on mobile.

Oh, I didn’t know that.

It’s a great game for starting and stopping while your partner pauses a movie to get a snack. Available on iOS too.

word "addictive " being accepted in the context of video games…
pyre@lemmy.world 2 months ago
yeah why do people use this as a positive? it’s literally a way for lots of AAA titles to manipulate their audience.
that being said mini metro isn’t addictive. it’s fun and chill and it can get hectic. being good enough that you want to play more isn’t addictive.

Do you have a suggestion for another word that would be better ?

Am I the only one here to remember it being a game that you played on a website for free?
I lost many hours like 10 years ago on this game.
beastlykings@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
I remember. I was like, wait, people paying for this? Good times though, definitely fun.
CMahaff@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Doesn’t look like it’s on sale, at least in the US

OP was a little too patient, and waited to post this until just 3 hours before the end of the steam winter sale lol

I plead guilty

That’s fine, the spring sale will be here soon enough, and maybe it’ll be on sale for the lunar new year sale or whatever. Steam sales are pretty frequent, and according to ITAD, it goes on sale about every month.

Great game for mobile, too. My partner was hooked for months straight, got into some of the daily top ten leaderboards.

I like this game (and mini motorways) but it sort of requires you to pause a lot. It doesn’t significantly take away from the experience (and a lot of games I really enjoy are like this, FTL is a big example) but it still bothers me
iknowitwheniseeit@lemmynsfw.com 2 months ago
I almost never pause. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Love Mini Metro, it’s great for when I’m in a “don’t feel like anything” mood

Brilliant game, and remember: the only reason to play normal mode is to unlock extreme mode!

Oh, a lovely game and so is it’s sequel. I recently gave a spare copy to a student of mine, too, so it was on my mind when I read this post. Enjoy!

I recommend it. It’s a nice little time waster that you can pick up and put down with relative ease. There are modes without timers and such as well so you aren’t stressing out while playing. This game has been out for a while and over the years I’ve picked it back up several times.

I played that game couple months ago, loved it but I got bored after some time. It’s a slow game, let’s you rearrange all the lines, but after some point it gets difficult. Long lines are slow for the subway and too much people.
perishthethought@lemm.ee 2 months ago
Awww, I remember loving that game. Gonna check it out again. 👍
NakariLexfortaine@lemm.ee 2 months ago
There’s also Mini Motorways. Same concept, different pieces. Heavily recommend both, both can scratch that “I just want to have a chill time” and “I wanna optimize and challenge myself” itches.
Super easy to pick up, spend your lunch break placing lines, and go back to whatever you were doing.
aeronmelon@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Still waiting for Mini Motorways to not be gatekept by Apple Arcade on iOS.
I’ve been playing Mini Metro for almost ten years now.

From a different studio, but Mini Settlers is also worth a try.
TachyonTele@lemm.ee 2 months ago
That’s a great description of both games. I jump back and depending on how I feel.
