I was mostly joking, but multidirectional treadmill - at least for being able to keep the holodeck to one room and not have to worry about bumping into walls. VR wasn’t a thing yet so I had no idea how any other parts of it would work, but like I said - I was a kid. I’m glad there are “real” big brains working in it, though lol

Somewhat unrelated but that happened to me once on an escalator as a kid - I had super long hair when I was a young girl, and I went to the mall with my mom. I was on a department store escalator and suddenly felt mg hair being pulled towards one of the sides/handrails. My mom noticed pretty quick, thankfully, and was able to yank it out before anything happened besides me being terrified as fuck.
That was decades ago and I still remember it vividly. Thanks for the PTSD flashback, lol

I swear I invented this when I was 10…glad the tech has finally caught up.

The enshittification of enshittification.
Yes, I know that is not the correct use of this word given the context, but I think it gets the point across regarding what has happened to tech overall.

- Comment on Boeing: Last Week Tonight 2 months ago:
Is that the guy who called Trump personally after the 2nd 737 Max crash crying to not allow the FAA to ground the plane?
Meanwhile the rest of the world was like “fuck that shit” so basically for a few hours the Max could only fly in US airspace and finally Trump got the memo & told Boeing guy “sorry fam”.

- Comment on Texas will add more grid batteries than any other state in 2024 | Grist 2 months ago:
It’s not sarcasm if it’s a valid question. If they’re winterizing the new equipment is absolutely a valid question - otherwise the new batteries that we’re reading about & their capabilities mean nothing during a particular time of the year when they’d be very desirable.
- Comment on Frozen embryos are “children,” according to Alabama’s Supreme Court 2 months ago:
This is according to a friend who had it done:
If the treatment worked and there were embryos left over, they waited X amount of time, I think a year or so, and if they don’t hear anything from you then they are destroyed.
My friend said she got a reminder but didn’t want to think about it, that it was too hard, so she never responded and assumes they’re gone. She said that to her, she never told them to do it, and that helps her if she ever thinks about it. She ended up having twins.

- Comment on I'm a US citizen, people in other countries, what do you think when you read stories like these about the US health care system? 2 months ago:
No, you’re absolutely right. I didn’t mean crazy to sound negative - it’s just something I cannot even imagine…to never have to think about this thing that I constantly think about. It’s wild. And I really do wish it could become a reality.
- Comment on I'm a US citizen, people in other countries, what do you think when you read stories like these about the US health care system? 2 months ago:
That’s so fucking crazy sounding. It also sounds wonderful. My parents almost lost our house due to medical expenses, and yes they had insurance (here’s the best part - my dad was a disabled veteran). So support the troops, yay!
Because of that experience, I’ve developed a lifelong almost PTSD about insurance and medical bills - afraid that it will happen again to me now that I’m an adult. I obsess over it. It’s terrible.
I’m so jealous of those who never have to give it a second thought.
- Comment on US concerned NASA will be overtaken by China's space program 2 months ago:
At the time, Russia wasn’t as……problematic. We had been working with Russia as an International Partner since the very early days of ISS and even during Shuttle/Mir.
Obviously they did become problematic, but we didn’t have other options until SpaceX. Now that’s….obviously got its own issues, but Russia is vastly different than China when it comes to space. Russia needs the money, China already has it.
- Comment on US concerned NASA will be overtaken by China's space program 2 months ago:
At least for ISS, the choice is either Musk or Putin.
I don’t know which one is worse, especially considering Musk is aiding Putin via Starlink in Ukraine.
Ukraine claims Russian forces using Musk’s Starlink in occupied areas
But as someone who works in the industry, it is a bleak outlook. NASA absolutely needs more funding for its human spaceflight exploration, Earth Science, robotic exploration, and astronomy/astrophysics.
