it’s actually astonishing that it took THIS long for his career to implode

I cannot overstate how good it feels to have the person who I always thought was a major asshole turn out to be an even bigger asshole.
Bosht@lemmy.world 2 days ago
This barely qualifies as technology news, come on. Also let the dude burn, fuck giving him any publicity.

Look, OP might have leaned in the direction of posting in the wrong community, but they did t actually do anything illegal ok.

The latest bad news for the Doc comes a week after an allegation was first made by a former Twitch employee on X. “He got banned because got caught sexting a minor in the then existing Twitch whispers product,” the tweet said.
Yeah so I get banning him but did anyone over at twitch also think to… I don’t know… contact the FBI? Seems like that should have been the first thing to do, no?
mosiacmango@lemm.ee 2 days ago
Alana Pierce, a games journalist/streamer/writer/etc had a specific responses to this exact question, based on personal experience. Her video on the topic is worth watching.
otp@sh.itjust.works 2 days ago
What’s the TL:DW of that? I’m just reading for now lol
pelletbucket@lemm.ee 2 days ago
what does “existing twitch whispers product” mean?
ruckblack@sh.itjust.works 2 days ago
From what I understand, “whispers” were what private messages were called on twitch. And it’s “then existing,” I don’t use twitch, but I guess it doesn’t exist anymore, that’s what they mean.
MikeOToxin@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Existing Twitch Whispers product.
Capitalization is important for context.

I would imagine they were waiting to see if they could catch him. And then charge him. Possibly.
just_another_person@lemmy.world 2 days ago
No idea who this is, but I can already tell my the fake getup that I do not care to look up whatever persona this guy thought was entertaining. Streamers are terrible.
Sanguine@lemmy.world 2 days ago
This particular streamer is terrible. There are plenty of great ones; dont lump them all together.
MisterMoo@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Please stop sharing anything about “Dr. Disrespect.” I do not care about this person at all.
Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 2 days ago
I don’t care about trump at all…imagine how I’ve felt the last 10 years.
MikeOToxin@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Don’t read the posts then?
You care enough to comment.

I’ve never heard of this guy but I’m not very attentive to streamer drama. Is this significant beyond there now being N+1 known bozos in the world instead of N?
meco03211@lemmy.world 2 days ago
There’s also N-1 streamers.
qooqie@lemmy.world 2 days ago
It’s significant because it has been otherwise unknown why he was banned off twitch back in 2017 when he was their biggest streamer. Lots and lots of speculations were had and finally the bomb dropped last week as to why
solrize@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Who is he? What does he stream about? Is he really a doctor?
MikeOToxin@lemmy.world 2 days ago
2020, June actually.

The amount of people eager to see a sexting thread with a child is fucking absurd.
DBT@lemmy.world 2 days ago
It’s probably less “wanting to see a sexting thread with a child” and more “curious what this asshole said that was inappropriate.” Not that absurd.
For example, if your coworker got fired for saying something inappropriate, would your first question not be, “what did they say that got them fired?”
Kind of a natural human reaction to be curious.
tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 2 days ago
I think it’s more about people wanting definitive proof that he knew and that it would be evidence that could warrant legal repercussions.
Cornpop@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Have you never seen the show to catch a predator?
crossmr@kbin.run 2 days ago
Because until we see it, unedited, we don't really know the truth of what occurred.

I’ve always been aware of this guy, but never watched him. He always seemed like an old guy acting like a young guy. Gave me bad vibes. I wouldn’t have guessed this at all. And im not just saying it becuase all this has come out. Ive voiced this opinion many times over the years. He gives of creepy vibes.

How the fuck is this “technology”? This community is flying very close to the line of what is in topic most of the time anyway. This by far and away crosses it.
It’s YouTube drama and it doesn’t belong here. I’m not saying it’s not interesting/important but it’s off topic and doesn’t belong here.
Chozo@fedia.io 2 days ago
On surface level, sure. But the consequences of this drama will be seen across the industry. Google and Amazon both appear to have worked to have kept this quiet, which raises a lot of important questions about how the business of video streaming will handle child safety.
Even though it may seem like drama, there's an important story here, and it directly involves the futures of some key players in the tech sector so it's relevant.
RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 2 days ago
The article states nothing of that though.
