- Comment on There's a noticable influx of trans kids in my job. Are there any topics I should avoid or considerations I should take into account when training them? 5 days ago:
If you struggle with pronouns, apologize casually when the pronouns come up.
As a fellow old, the kids don’t seem to necessarily get it that my brain is wired pretty hard not to change pronouns, but they do seem to appreciate the effort and the discussion that it’s a challenge rather than just fucking it up with no explanation.
Otherwise, be mindful that they take a lot of shit for parts of themselves that are background attributes for the rest of us. They can get pretty tired of it. A friendly person who regards them as just people may be the best thing they can get from anyone.

Star Wars did for a while.
- Comment on The USA spends $15k/student annually which is 30% higher than the global median. Why do U.S. schools have "fundraisers" where kids are incentivized to sell stuff to people? 1 week ago:
30-50% if its an actual physical item is pretty normal. If it’s something like a discount card or coupon book, profit approaches 90%.

40 here. Pretty much what I was thinking.
The way you behave in public is visible by the public, kids. No matter how you feel about it. If you don’t want it read, don’t post it.
- Comment on TIL blocking users on Lemmy is nothing but a placebo 1 week ago:
I mean, okay.
If I already said something publicly, I expect it to be read publicly.
The block tool is because I’m tired of dealing with their bullshit, not because I’m afraid of them reading what I’ve posted.
Still nice to know though, I guess.

All of those things you mentioned were right wing power grabs.
Taking the high road was letting that shit become mainstream.
- Comment on Are We All Becoming More Hostile Online? 3 weeks ago:
I remember how this worked in Sweden where I live
Yeah, things don’t work that way everywhere.
We tried being nice in America. It got us here.
You just go back to enjoying your ivory tower. We have actual problems here and your high road is not the solution.
- Comment on Are We All Becoming More Hostile Online? 3 weeks ago:
Here’s the thing.
The last 10 years have proven that organized online hostility is VERY EFFECTIVE at dictating public opinion.
That’s how we got the new fascist movements. Trump and the like. Because right wing hostility and bigotry went not only unchecked institutionally but unchallenged socially.
No solution has emerged for that from an institutional level.
So yeah, my socialist ass is fighting back. I’ll be damned if I’m going to spend the rest of my life under these fucking wastes of flesh and their bullshit antiquated opinions. I’m done taking it and I’m done tolerating it. Fuck every last republican and homophobe and transphobe and complicit liberal. All of them. And wouldn’t you know it, little by little they’re backing down when we stand up to them like the cowards they are.
Yes, I am deliberately far more hostile online, because it WORKS. And clearly nobody with institutional control cares enough to try anything else.

- Comment on Do you use your blinker in a car? 1 month ago:
Very much this.
I was hoping to imply that with the phrase “road users” but I wasn’t explicit about it.
Cyclists too. If you can’t keep a cyclist safe you shouldn’t be allowed in a car.
- Comment on Do you use your blinker in a car? 1 month ago:
Yes. Don’t listen to people who tell you not to.
The indicator is for communicating your intent to change the position (which lane you’re in) or direction (turning in or out of a road, parking space, etc.) of your car.
The safest thing you can do as a driver is to be PREDICTABLE to other drivers. The indicator communicates necessary information for other drivers to predict your actions.
Not using one when changing the position or direction of your car is inconsiderate and dangerous to other road users. It is also illegal.
Use them. Please.
- Comment on It's a sin in Christianity to consume media based on ancient mythology and folklore? 1 month ago:
You mean to tell me that not bashing children’s heads against a rock is a uniquely christian value.
- Comment on It's a sin in Christianity to consume media based on ancient mythology and folklore? 1 month ago:
You, specifically, possibly. I don’t know you and I certainly don’t care who “your people” are. But if you rely on a sky fairy to tell you it’s bad to bludgeon children to death rather than having basic compassion to tell you, signs aren’t good for you. All you’d need is for a charismatic sociopath to tell you the magic cloud genie changed its mind and then it’s all of our brains bashed in. History has proven that.
- Comment on It's a sin in Christianity to consume media based on ancient mythology and folklore? 1 month ago:
And this is why religions are so dangerous and terrifying right here.
If you can’t answer that question on your own, you are frightening.
- Comment on It's a sin in Christianity to consume media based on ancient mythology and folklore? 1 month ago:
Sin is defined is an act in defiance of god. There is no god to defy.
Your question presumes that harm can only come from sin. That presumption is nonsensical in the absence of a god.
- Comment on It's a sin in Christianity to consume media based on ancient mythology and folklore? 1 month ago:
Sin is a myth. There is no god to judge you.
Consider the harm your actions and beliefs cause. The rest is bullshit.
- Comment on How likely is it that Trump will be the first President assassinated since Kennedy? 1 month ago:
It’s important to note that even in that scenario, he’s limited to a total of 10 years. If he would take over from a VP position, he could exceed 10 total years as POTUS.
Whatever “limited” means in the current state of things is another question.
- Comment on How likely is it that Trump will be the first President assassinated since Kennedy? 1 month ago:
If we’re being real, it’s not likely at all. He’s probably safer than Biden was.
Not only does the secret service impose incredibly tight security (not perfect, mind you), but Trump doesn’t go anywhere except the White House and his shithole golf course.
In order to assassinate him, it would probably have to be an inside job. That seems exceptionally unlikely.
