- Comment on AI experts return from China stunned: The U.S. grid is so weak, the race may already be over 1 day ago:
I didn’t say they were going to save the world, no more than the USA did or any nation state turned empire.
I do think China will eclipse America when it comes to being in a position of strong global leadership and the hegemonic power on the world stage. The USA seems to be shirking our duties, reshaping and destroying our society’s moral fabric, racing towards worse and worse education results and hellbent on making sure our healthcare is broken and our people are fat and dumb.
It’s not a winning recipe, even with a military that can dominate.
Every country has its problems and its demons, China is no different and certainly their problems are complex and grand. As far as greater or lesser evils - I’d put the USA and China about on par for all the fucked up stuff we have done the past hundred years and keep doing now.
I’d love to at least visit China sometime - honestly there’s so much fascinating history and getting to see a different approach to community building and infrastructure planning would be neat.

Sounds like it might be time for a rewatch! I probably should rewatch it too…
But that’s a fun episode. The episode’s plot is basically Alien if the alien was a sentient spoiled food item.
Enjoy this Fun mva from 17 years ago …feeling old yet?
- Comment on BE NOT AFRAID, MORTAL 3 days ago:
Yeah it’s cowboy bebop. It’s from the episode where they have a monster that was leftovers in the fridge roaming the ship and terrorizing then.

This is the dawn of the new Chinese century. I have no doubt in 20 more years China will be in an even stronger position as the USA continues to decline.
We, the USA, could do all the stuff that would make us competitive. That would require more socialism, more taxing of billionaires, more spending in green energy, education, transportation, healthcare becoming affordable and an actual human right for all in our borders, a real plan to transition off fossil fuels and shore up our domestic energy production and electric grid.
Idk more than that of course but that’s the elevator pitch.
We won’t do it though because corrupt capitalism and the oligarchy.
Maybe we will if at some point enough of us are struggling but we’re pretty fat and have plenty of entertainment to distract us even if we are being fucked. So … Yeah … Desperately hoping I’m wrong about most of my predictions, devastated as I keep seeing them come true.
- Comment on Microsoft Is Now Being Sued Over Sunsetting Windows 10 1 week ago:
Having gone from 10 to 11 - it’s pretty much windows 10, at least to an average user like myself … I’m tech savvy enough for Linux but I prefer windows for gaming.
Have to say so far I’m pretty happy with windows 11 but I’m just a random guy who uses it to play video games and that’s about it on that PC so if you’re doing anything crazy under the hood I’m sure there’s some noticeable differences.

I think that’s really up to interpretation. Her age seems to fluctuate in historical texts from her time.
She easily could have been younger than 18.
People didn’t really have any age of consent laws or any of that and her birth year can only be roughly estimated. So I’d say pick another princess lol
- Comment on ICE agents pointed guns at a US citizen when she walked out on to her yard to ask why they were arresting her (legal immigrant) partner. 2 weeks ago:
The left is armed. Lots of us own firearms; we’re just quiet about it because we don’t make guns our whole identity because we’re not fragile man children.
Trust me, right now there is not an appetite for violence. If things keep getting worse sooner or later we will hear more about ICE getting killed. Probably in a year or less since they’re expanding the American Gestapo.
- Comment on ICE agents pointed guns at a US citizen when she walked out on to her yard to ask why they were arresting her (legal immigrant) partner. 2 weeks ago:
That’s just not how the economy works.
The people that immigrate work. They have labor value. They’re consumers too, they’re literally just people like you and me - and zooming out to macro economics that’s all we are. The human widgets in the machine.
Trying to blame immigrants for the ills of society is a fool’s errand.
Maybe instead of pumping up shareholder value in stocks, most of which are not owned or shared by the actual labor, there could be an increase of wages and benefits through taxation. Hell stocks could be given to the people who are making that revenue for the company and not to just like the pockets of the investor class who are literally making money by simply having it.
I don’t think people prefer to be exploited for their labor but when the USD goes farther than your local currency and you’re already in bad enough straights it is worth the hardship for those folks.
Also all of this is ignoring one very obvious fact. IT IS ILLEGAL TO HIRE UNDOCUMENTED MIGRANT WORKERS. Maybe … just maybe if the companies and farm owners followed the law they claim to care so much about the demand and the benefit of “illegal” immigration would cease to exist.

No they’re a bunch of entitled assholes who need a fucking wake up call.

Your comment was on top for me in my app, so I was like “oh how bad could it be.”. Holy shit you’re not wrong, there’s some disgusting comments that are getting voted up.
I’m low-key disappointed and appalled by these community members who believe these women “deserve” it for … Trying to help each other be safer?

I mean I don’t think 25 women would lie about stuff that would be slander or libel when it comes to someone as litigious and thin skinned as Trump.
Not much evidence you can provide when it’s one person’s word over another. Only thing I can say is he never won a libel suit against his accusers as far as I know.

I will say I’ve found LLM useful for code writing but I’m not coding anything real at work. Just bullshit like SQL queries or Excel macro scripts or Power Automate crap.
It still fucks up but if you can read code and have a feel for it you can walk it where it needs to be (and see where it screwed up)

Not sure if they have a terrible memory, I think you just have poor reading comprehension. Just glancing through a few of the articles you sent trying to “gotcha” some poster(s) here shows you didn’t even read them. If you did read them you did a bad job understanding the material.
Just for the deportation example: Biden’s deportation and immigration enforcement was not the same as Trump’s now. Biden was aggressively going after actual criminals and he was working to create a path to citizenship for folks that have been here illegally for years and put down roots and contributed to our economy. Now we’re seeing ICE rounding up people for nothing more than their skin color and a “suspicion” they’re not documented. So, just straight up racism.
You included an article where the Dems wanted to keep the green party off a ballot, ok … And? They’re not trying to keep people from voting or suppress the vote. They were trying their best to not have a spoiler candidate on the ballot and felt that aligned with the state’s election laws.
Anyways, I wouldn’t call the parties the same when you can just look at what policies and legislation passed under Democrats vs Republicans. Easy example - the affordable care act.

It has always been a delusion. Don’t get me wrong, you can work hard and scrape a living together but you’re not getting rich without a lot of luck and capital backing.

I really like your spelling “teature” but it’s officially spelled teacher.
Because English is silly like that.
My school here in the USA we had school lunch too, it was usually pretty ok, kids also packed lunches the same as your school.

I guess the NYT no longer has an editor on staff? Who the fuck let that go to print, also who writes something like that into an article - that little paragraph where the NYT claims that “industry experts” said Chinese girls are better at assembling phones reads like cringe AI slop.
I feel like literally one person proofreading that should have been enough for them to go, “maybe don’t print the stupid racist thing about small fingers.”

It’s fine, nothing at all wrong with using just camera vision for autonomous driving. Nothing wrong at all. So a few cars run off roads or don’t stop for pedestrians or drive off a cliff. So freaking what, that’s the price for progress my friend!
I’d like to think this is unnecessary but just in case here’s a /s for y’all.
- Comment on A growing number of young chinese people are avoiding Starbucks Coffee. US executives are furious. 2 months ago:
A lot of suburban sprawl in the USA doesn’t have good local coffee shops around and Starbucks is the best, or at least reasonably close, option available to get a fancy caffeine fix.
Plus they serve lots of things other than over roasted drip coffee.
I like some of their iced drinks and macchiatos. But I like sweet garbage with too many calories. So my palette isn’t exactly refined. However, that’s a lot of the reason is just lack of options and people genuinely like their sugary sweet drinks and will pay a premium for everybody’s favorite drug caffeine.

I mean, I rarely do it because people are crazy but sometimes I can’t stop myself.
