- Comment on Scientists move to Bluesky, transitioning away from X and Meta platforms 6 days ago:
While there has been some onboarding QOL stuff for mastodon, Bluesky still has them beat on that.
The “People” segment in the explore menu is a nice start, but it’s still dependent on the users picking a server that somewhat matches their interests.
- Comment on Jeep's annoying pop-up nags you to buy an extended warranty at every stop sign 2 weeks ago:
First thing I’m doing when I buy a new car is ripping out the internet antennas.
My specs for a car are simple. You drive me to and from either work, or the grocery store. Nothing else.
Equipment that can’t perform to spec gets replaced. Equipment that won’t perform to spec gets abused until it will, or it can’t. - Comment on hexbear.net comically loses its domain name 2 weeks ago:
This is amusing, but one guy from the crosspost raised a valid problem:
If the hexbear domain fully dies, then all the idiots kept in containment by defederation will start jumping ship to other instances, and start causing trouble for users and moderators. - Comment on ICE Wants to Know If You’re Posting Negative Things About It Online 2 weeks ago:
Yeah, and? They can suck on my left nut if they don’t like my criticism.
Besides, my family has been here since the start of the nation. Where are they going to deport me to, Plymouth rock? - Comment on Jeep Introduces Pop-Up Ads That Appear Every Time You Stop 2 weeks ago:
Please do. But keep in mind, when I invariably get jump-scared by your infotainment system and crack my head on the car ceiling, I’m going to turn your revenue stream into my personal early retirement pension.
- Comment on How crispy do you want your PETG filament? 2 weeks ago:
Do keep the glass transition temperatures for your filaments in mind. 150°, or even 165°F may be fine for PETG, but PLA will soften at those temps. Also, check your local liquor stores for anything in the 95% range. Makes a great cleaner in general, and should take care of any unforeseen offgassed chemical deposit issues.
Even though I expect any such volatiles to remain a gas and get shot out the exhaust, it’s better to be safe.
- Comment on How crispy do you want your PETG filament? 2 weeks ago:
Probably not, but the goal is the convenience of multi-purpose. I can dry a filament for an hour, then wipe down the inside, load the dried filament, and cook dinner while I print.
Also banking on the air fryers capacity to blow larger volumes of hot air at the target temp, given that… Well, it’s designed to mainly cook food. Some of the cheaper filament dryers just do not have enough airflow. Or any airflow.

Or remind people of the horrible specter that polio was, and the shadow it cast over society at the time. People lived in constant dread of catching something that could leave them physically ruined, and even wheelchair bound for the rest of their lives back then.
Covid, in its early strains, had the potential to leave you hospitalized and drowning in your own lungs for weeks as it ran its course. Granted, that’s not polio levels of bad… But that’s still weeks of hell, and several more years of hospital billing hell that I would like to avoid.
Weighing those outcomes, I opted for early access to the vaccine. Even though it was more to minimize the risk of an expensive hospital stay.
- Comment on D-Link refuses to patch yet another security flaw, suggests users just buy new routers — D-Link told users to replace NAS last week 3 months ago:
I think there should be a handoff procedure, or whatever you want to call it.
As EOL approaches, work with whatever open router OS maker is available (currently OpenWRT) to make sure it’s supported, and configs migrate over nicely. Then drop one last update, designed to do a full OS replacement.
Boom, handoff complete.
- Comment on Kroger’s plans to roll out facial recognition at its grocery stores is attracting criticism from lawmakers, who warn it could lead to surge pricing and put customers’ personal data at risk 4 months ago:
Oh no, I accidentally put paint in a super soaker and it squirted upwards on the camera! Silly me, I’m such a klutz!

…most followed user,
Abusing site admin powers to force accounts to follow you really shouldn’t count.
- Comment on Decentralised YouTube alternative Odysee no longer serving ads 6 months ago:
Honestly, after all the shit YouTube is pulling with their ad systems, I wouldn’t mind those old tiny banner strip ads that used to occasionally pop up at the bottom of a video. Compared to the current standard of 3 minutes of unskippable ads interrupting every other video, those little banners are downright unobtrusive.
- Comment on YSK there is a massive Google Doc of U.S. gynecologists that will tie your tubes without asking about your kids, marital status or age. 7 months ago:
The other side is concerning as well. This list could also be used by individuals looking to do some targeted harassment. Or worse.
