- Comment on Jesus Christ 5 days ago:
The books (since they all share the old testament in one way or another) talk about it, us being good shepards and responsible for all beings. Just a little, but it is there. Somewhere in the beginning.
It’s just that we’re assholes and if something doesn’t fit our narrative we ignore it.
Just like all the books make killing crime no 1, but we go “yeah, no” when it suits us. (in war you may kill because i say so and you may kill that Israeli, westerner or arab because they are subhuman unbelievers/desert rags.)
The commandments are very clear and there are no exceptions possible according to the book. But we made those up anyway. Which is weird. Here we have the guiding principles of being, given to us by god and we choose to disregard them. Sometimes even in the name of god/allah/Jahweh.
Disclaimer: not an active Christian. Just had to go to a lot of sunday school in my day.

- Comment on Need for Speed: what is the best title of the series? 1 week ago:
Most fun? Most wanted. But these days it’s just such a pain to get it running most of the times.
I had fun with heat and a few other of the new titles. But the police are just too easy and the dlc hell is just too much. I saw the last one for sale on steam this weekend. To get all the dlc i had to fork out another fifty or something and they mostly just added cars, not tracks or areas.

Nobody of the normal populace knew. Do you really think the jews would get onnthose trains without putting up a real fight? Bringing their belongings, jewellery in suitcases to Dachau, Auschwitz?
Does that sound like actions of someone who knew what was going to happen?
Yes, a lot of people knew what was going on. A lot of people, more people, didn’t know shit. The problem was not that. The problem was that they didn’t care.
- Comment on Hoggies 2 months ago:
In dutch they are literally called sea-hedgehog. (zee-egel)
So, while latin and all is nice, there’s always the dutch way of “doe maar normaal dan doe je gek genoeg”. Which translates into: just behave as regular, that’s more than enough excitement.

Ideal is not the same, by any means, as PayPal. Read up.
With ideal you loose your money. Ideal is made from the pov of the bank and the shop selling you stuff. Its almost impossible to claim your money back without the sellers consent.
Tikkie is not the same as PayPal since tikkie only works with EU banks. (and quite possibly at this moment only NL banks) PayPal does not need a bank account. Its also not really a wrapper around ideal but thats another discussion. And mostly a semantic one so lets not go there.

- Comment on I'm a US citizen, people in other countries, what do you think when you read stories like these about the US health care system? 8 months ago:
Scary. That’s what I think of the US healthcare.
The other side of the spectrum is that in the US, anything goes. If you got the money any and all treatment is possible.
Overhere that’s not the case. Some medicine and/or treatments are deemed way to expensive or unproven and are unavailable.

because incompatible. It won’t work on any device. Except those of that cult. That cult whose leader killed himself after magically getting a a new liver somewhere in Asia.
You know, donor organs for which there are waiting lists of months and months.
Which was totally not weird and surely 100% legal and all. Just fine.

The question, the problem with crypto, is not how, it’s why?
It isn’t about if we can or cannot. It’s about the usecase of it all.
For now, the only use case crypto has is wel… Betting. It’s hard to call it anything else like speculation.
You would be out of your mind to use it as a currency. The worth of crypto is too volatile. Even black market usage is problematic due to this. (did i just buy a pound of coke for 50k or 100k? Who knows? I guess we see tomorrow)
It also is too slow to use as a currency; the transaction times are off the charts compared to other forms.
It also is the most wasteful form for storing wealth.
It’s also the most risky way for storing wealth. The amount of hacks and scams are insane.
It, in its current form will never be a legal tender. Currency is about control for governments, to devalue or not, to prop up the economy, boosting it or easing it down when needed and crypto doesn’t provide that. So to use that wealth you’ll always need an exchange. A third party. Which, recent history has thought us, are very prone to abuse and regulation. they can be banned overnight. (China comes to mind)
It’s a solution. The question is for what. The popularity of it all is based on 2 things : greed and the fear of missing out. (which again boils down to greed)

It’s the least watched service in my household. It’s only still in our streaming subscriptions because of the low, very low price I’ve got in the first few weeks when t It was introduced here in NL.
I find the new “max” content bad. It’s not at the same level as the HBO series. My family just doesn’t bother with it.
The moment the new pricing and rebranding comes over here wil Probably be the moment I cancel.
House of dragons and the last of us is not enough to keep paying monthly.
Our household watches netflix, prime, youtube, disney+, skyshowtime (paramount) and lastly max.

This is a weird take. Just because someone is (or has been) successful he can’t speak about or for socialism?
You can’t be successful and a socialist? Is that it? That’s a very narrow and simply wrong view which has resulted in a lot of damage in societies which adopted it.
Socialism needs succes stories. Otherwise, what’s the point? Mediocrity for all? That will never fly or become popular.

I bought the Nokia 8010 TV box instead of the shield. I do not know if it’s available in your country. Why? Cheaper and same ish enough.
I like it but “like” is all there is. I do not love it. As most android boxes it is not 100% stable and needs a reboot after a week or so.
I red in several forums the nvidia shield has the same problem.
Tbh the appletv is the wise choice. Stable, more apps, better ecosystem, better soc, more storage. Plex also works on it.
I couldn’t use it unfortunately because my Atmos setup is not arc 2.0 and the appletv only does uncompressed atmos. With arc 1.x atmos it’s only possible to send atmos compressed over dolby digital plus.
- Comment on Unity U-turns on controversial runtime fee and begs forgiveness 1 year ago:
Could you imagine adobe pulling of shit like this? Yeah, the first 20000 views of your photo is free but after that there’s a 2.5% fee.
Fuck off. You’re a content (be it games or something else) creation tool. You’re business is pencils, paint, canvas. Or in the case of unity an IDE. Not the art created with it.
It’s a stupid idea thought up by stupid people. Everyone in the boardroom at unity should be fired. One of them thought it up, the others thought it a good idea also or where too afraid to speak up. Both of those options mean bad management.
But I think it’s too late, the name is tarnished.

tbf pc gaming was always a fight for performance, I never felt superior back in the day fighting with qemm, irqs for the soundblaster or glide3d, it’s always had been a shitshow. It was a super shitshow in the nineties, it was a bit better in the zero’s and nowadays it again became a tad better.
But somehow I enjoyed that shitshow. Still do.
- Comment on They’ve grown up online. So why are our kids not better at detecting misinformation? 1 year ago:
My experience as a parent:
It has nothing to do with education. It had nothing to do with knowledge.
It has everything to do with trust. They trust youtube/insta/Tiktok. They trust the influencers.
This is nothing new or exclusive to kids. Don’t believe me? The antivax movement. You know: “educate yourself.” That. Grownups are not immune.
This is nothing new.

- Comment on Are you holding off on any game in particular right now? 1 year ago:
I’m holding out on starfield. There must be a cyberpunk moment waiting right around the corner because you can’t jam all that in a game and expect it to work too.
Also 80% what’s out there of so called features of this game only exists inside the heads of influencers. That hope is the real problem.
I tried holding out on armoured core. I couldn’t. Glad I didn’t. Amazing game. Easier then Elden ring but still very clearly a from software title.
