Weird I wonder if this is happening on Android too.

It is. My phone has been warning me. It’s only password autofill that they’re removing (for now), not TOTP stuff.

I just checked, I don’t get the full-screen thing, but there’s a similar in-app notification.

This is them closing their walled gardens. The goal is to trap those that don’t know better or ignorantly don’t care.
Stop using anything Microsoft related on any of your personal devices. It’s an American capitalism virus now.

Lol Microsoft is not even close to a walled garden. This is just them removing the password manager feature that nobody used from their authenticator app.

I used it. And I used Edge. This is the most braindead change they could have made. Edge automatically synced passwords to Authenticator across mobile and PC. Losing the ability to autofill passwords outside of Edge makes it significantly less useful.
If anything, as someone who was in their garden, this change is unironically making me want to go find another garden to play in instead of stick closer to theirs. Why is Microsoft so hellebent on making people hate it’s software recently?

Were you in a coma for the past 40 years?

Standardly Microsoft Authenticator I have only used for 2 factor codes for work accounts. I wonder what they plan to do with those.
BroBot9000@lemmy.world 10 months ago
They will amalgamate them into one big “Ai cross platform password management system” which is just optimized to suck up as much private data to train their fucking Ai as possible.
Zak@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Isn’t Microsoft Authenticator just a password manager and TOTP app? You can replace it with Bitwarden and Aegis (or a dozen alternatives).
nomecks@lemmy.wtf 10 months ago
If you use MS Authenticator you can enable geofencing for SSO. If it’s enabled then no other TOTP apps will work.
CidVicious@sh.itjust.works 10 months ago
I’ve worked places where they required specific TOTP apps. That’s the only reason I had MS Authenticator on my phone

You could keep it on your phone, but it is just a shared secret that you could store in a different authenticator.

Web browsers for password management is a mistake. You cannot change my mind. It’s one thing to say better then nothing and offer the option, it’s another to say this is the only way.
