I’m sure the guy who dismembered a journalist will be super chill about creative control.
EA insists it will "maintain creative control" and "creative freedom" if sale to consortium goes ahead

The people who own the company that’s trying to buy EA are the people who ordered the assassination of Khashoggi.
PunnyName@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Muhammad Bone Saw, the man who very likely put a hit out on Jamal Khashoggi.

Lol…
I don’t think this is as reassuring as EA thinks it would be…
It’s like if Comcast got bought by United Healthcare, but assured us their customer service would stay at the same level.
edgemaster72@lemmy.world 4 days ago
That’s right, big smile, everybody gets to maintain creative control
dan1101@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Creative control until the Bobs come in and fire everyone not wanting to toe the authoritarian line.

Ummmmm, nobody gives a shit if EA keeps creative freedom. Nobody likes EA. EA aquires creative studios, takes their IPs, steps on the throats of creative giants who made name value for something, and then laughs as they add borderline mandatory paid DLC, and laughs as they destroy properties.
If this new owner does literally nothing besides buy smaller studios, and leave them alone to do what they want, it’s an improvement.

Considering the new owners are famed journalist murderer and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman and Presidential nepo-in-law Jared Kushner, I’m doubtful that respect for the creative process is high on the list of priorities. And yeah, EA already sucks but I imagine they’ll find lots of innovative ways to drive EA to new heights of terribleness.
Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Oh god…I had no idea THATS who was buying them!
Welp. On this day, we lost EA as we once knew it. And nothing of value was lost.
itkovian@lemmy.world 4 days ago
That’s not exactly a good thing, considering that EA has been creatively bankrupt for more than a decade now.
tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 4 days ago
Let’s say that I believed them. Is that even a good thing? They fucking suck and Andrew Wilson can go all the way to hell.
Jumi@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Luckily EA games are easily avoided because you need their garbage launcher for everything.
cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 4 days ago
I will maintain creative control of my life by boycotting EA forever. It’s one of the key plot points in my story.
melsaskca@lemmy.ca 4 days ago
“sale to consortium” just sounds like Star Wars “Empire” type shit.
CosmoNova@lemmy.world 3 days ago
Creative freedom over how they fire people and sell IPs to pay off the mountain of debt they loaded the company with.
Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Everybody furiously unistalling EA shit.
atrielienz@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Not me, but I pirated sims 3.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Knowing the current admin, they just need to give Trump some bitcoin and he’ll allow this to go through.
thinkercharmercoderfarmer@slrpnk.net 4 days ago
Lmao they are way ahead of you
Electronic Arts confirmed it was entering an agreement to be acquired by a group of investors comprised Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners at the end of September. The PIF is run by Saudi Arabia’s Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, and the investment firm Affinity Partners was formed by Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Of course Silver Lake is in on it 🤦♂️

Oh, the content curation is going to go through tonial whiplash and I’m looking forward to it.
AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 4 days ago
Considering their current level of creative control and freedom, that’s like Kim promising nothing will change for the worse in NK.
RightHandOfIkaros@lemmy.world 3 days ago
I’ll be honest, maybe it would be better if they didn’t have creative control anymore. They haven’t really been all that creative these past years.
Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Isn’t that the same thing the studios they acquired said? And we all know how that inevitably turned out.
tonytins@pawb.social 4 days ago
EA: Maxis will continue to have creative freedom.
Also, EA: We’ve put all of Maxis’ resources into The Sims 4.
dan1101@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Origin Systems, they made Ultima Underworld and Wing Commander. EA turned Origin into a download client. I’m still salty.
gex@lemmy.world 4 days ago
A fitting fate for EA would be to be dismantled and its name used for an unrelated business
