Have you all not notice there are NO communist countries?

This is something I find odd. There are allot of communist groups on Lemmy and more and more Americans think they like communism probably because they don’t even know what it is. However what’s funny is there has never been and is currently NO communist countries in existence. Literally.

It is an actual imaginative concept and its just strange none of these people realize it. I don’t care if you’re communist. But just do it, like make it happen so you all can see the flaws in it and realize its wishful thinking.

I’ll tell you why communism doesn’t work. It’s missing the root word (community) you all don’t come together outside of online groups and occasional marches.

There are no anything countries.

Show me a true democracy, a wholly capitalist country, an entirely anything country. There aren’t any.

This is the reality of living in a complicated world - nothing is black and white.

  Those systems are flawed and inefficient but they a predominant parts of the country, usually integrated through the entirety of the country and enforced by others accepting it or dumb laws making it mandatory. Communism has never been even close this is the difference.

    I’m saying that no-one can for exactly the reason you can’t name a fully democratic country or a fully capitalistic country.

I mean there are many countries that call themselves communist. Seems like really early on lenin was trying but he ultimately had to start dictating to get things done. cuba after castro may come closest. hard to say.

“Communist” countries fail because of Vanguardism. Putting all your power into one organization, and that organization puts all their powers into just a few individuals, sometimes just one person; I mean… its a recipe for disaster. No one can be trusted with that amount of power.

One way to look at this is the concepts ‘communism’ and ‘country’ don’t really work together. The modern nation-state requires a level of bureaucracy and scaling that is not really compatible with communistic ideals of egalite. It should also be noted that there isn’t really a completely anything country. China calls itself communist but uses capitalist elements. America is arguably the most anti-communist country but uses plenty of centralized regulation and subsidies. And each has a subset that is deeply in favour of more or less of each of these elements. The idea of having anything ideologically pure is the real childish notion here.

  China isn’t not communist because they engage with capitalism… There not communist because their entire system isn’t communist…
  
  When there’s one party, one ruler, and one set of people that get to rule over the rest … that’s specifically NOT communism.
  
  Even if they didn’t engage with the world market, made every business a coop, they would still not be communist. At all.

    That’s kind of why I think ‘country’ and ‘communist’ are not really compatible. I don’t think it is possible to have a faithful execution of communism at the scale of an area like China. They’re obviously closer to communism than some places but also just as obviously not there.

Since a theoretical communist society would be stateless, the idea of a fully communist country is an oxymoron. Instead you have countries claiming to be transitional states that are laying the groundwork for true communism at some point in the future.

  That’s because it’s always a bad faith question and people who ask it are never interested in actually discussing it or learning.
  
  It’s also a problematic question because different people have different ideas on what constitutes “success”. A free market capitalist will consider all socialist states to be failures, while a communist will consider all capitalist states to be failures. So what metric do you use to measure success?

    I get that - I’m just saying that the pro-communism people know that they’re selling a lie. They know communism doesn’t work - or at least they’re too stupid to be able to put 2 and 2 together and get 4.

The communism ideals are great. Problem is, they historically fail when put into practice. Funny thing, it’s because of power hungry assholes. That same reason is why democracies fail, why republics fail, why monarchies fail, why theocracies fail and so on.

If only there were a pattern here that we could learn from. One person with too much power and eventually, you’ll get an asshole so mad with power they bring the whole system down and we have to start over.

The more parties, check, ballances, laws, and red tape, and the like help stave it off for longer, but nothing lasts forever. There is bo perfect system that can’t be undone by assholes.

    Good people don’t want the power. They want a nice easy peaceful life surrounded by loved ones. The assholes strive for power and authority. A few good people try to make a difference.
    
    Even if you tried to make a legislature out of regular citizens forced to do the work like jury duty, it would get twisted and regulated like current jury duty.

  Benevolent dictators can happen by accident, but never by design. A system designed to govern fairly will inevitably be abused by people who have no intention of fairness. You can place as many obstacles in their path as you wish, you can’t stop them forever and eventually they will get around them all.
