400k seems relatively low for the usual scum. Could be a lower rank military personnel, or a staffer.

Are you sure? I don’t think thats true. Go ahead and run both, and let us know what you find.

While you’re at it, you should probably clean up your desktop to make it run faster. Just run “sudo rm -rf /” and it’ll never be faster. Trust

Often times they’re technically separate entities. In that case, they can actually get in trouble for selling it cheaper internally as an anti-competitive practice.

You just reminded me of when kid me bought both pokemon versions just so I could catch all of them. Stupid mechanic haha

You mean to tell me people aren’t interested in a $100 game that launches with DLC? No it’s the gamers who are wrong.

What a waste of power! You could at least be mining bitcoin with it. Plus you can always microwave your tea instead.

Immich + a backup solution of your choice. If it’s worth saving, it’s worth backing up. Try to follow 321 as much as possible, but having at least a second copy is a good start.

I’m surprised I had to go this far to find immich. I 100% recommend it, and yes it’s selfhosting if you run it yourself. Still selfhosted even if you use a VPS as long as you control and administer it.
For hardware, I actually recommend against raspberry pis these days. You can get a cheap mini PC that’s much more performant and better supported for the same price as a pi plus the accessories (SD card, case, power supply, etc). Use Debian or Ubuntu as host and follow the guide on the github for installation.

ouch! Local only has been a long term campaign for me. The last thing was my thermostat which I found out was cloud connected when my network went down. I’ve since fixed it using the ecobee local homekit integration. Great test is to manually pull the wan port and see what breaks!

This latest outage was a great test for my home assistant. Only integrations that went down were weather reporting.

I should’ve known better than to trust my intuition on this. I previously ran the numbers on investing vs double mortgage payments and found investing to be far superior.
- Comment on Landlords are parasites 2 months ago:
I just did the math for renting/investing vs buying, including rent/house value yearly increase, income taxes on capital gains, mortgage rate, down payment amount, and initial house price. The results indicate a strong dependence on rent price and taxes/insurance for buying. I found that renting/investing can be a better financial option depending on the inputs. As another commenter pointed out, the main reasons are taxes/insurance and the greater time return rate for market vs home value. This was surprising to me, so I’m glad I ran the numbers. That tells me the real difference is your life choice of wanting a place of your own vs renting and moving around.
