Sadly that’s how cults and authoritarian governments work. Truth doesn’t matter only the party or the leadership matters. If truth goes against the narrative then it isn’t the truth, it’s now a lie and the person saying it’s the truth is an enemy. You can’t argue with it or members double down
I’m not saying you have to agree with it or accept it but we have to deal with it until large swaths of the members start to wake up.
It’s the general public. Sure he had sycophants. But most people barely pay attention.
People on the left are ignorant to social media, engagement and spread. Nobody knows any of the issues discussed and shared within the left because the left has a very big “just google it” mindset. Whereas the right will depend weeks producing content and sharing it with each other for laughs. One side gets views the other gets ignored.
I mean, cost benefit analysis, people have families and friends. I’m in california and there’s not a fuck ton i can do about krasnov across the country except wave signs. I mean I do wave signs, but like I want more palpable, concrete action too like you, y’know?
There’s a certain amount of you have to keep your head down and get your job done so the fascists don’t target you next. You ever played an MMO? Sometimes it feels like you have to let the aggro meter on yourself go down a little bit and take a break, if you fight all day every day you burn out, AND they send you to El Salvador.
Enough was enough when they killed my grandma five years ago dude. The stakes were already personal.
I’m not denying reality. I’m mad and I want to make things better. So I work within my personal sphere of influence to lead by example and show the people around me what being kind, caring, interested, and engaged looks like in real life. I talk about the scary things I see or read about happening, along with the historical correlations when I recognize them and have the opportunity, with anyone and everyone that wants to discuss it, and frequently in spaces where others can overhear the conversation.
I think there are lots of people taking a similar approach. Talking to people around you in person is a lot more effective than doing it on the internet.
I’m not saying you’re doing the thing I’m about to mention, to be clear, but it feels adjacent to it, so I’m throwing it out there for the lemmyverse at large. I think it’s kinda shitty to see all the “why aren’t Americans doing anything” comments and posts. It would be astronomically stupid to post openly online about any serious resistance efforts. Most of us just want to live our lives, raise our families, and teach our children how to grow into honest and caring adults when they grow up. Being a lone wolf in a revolution that hasn’t yet materialized does not help any of us accomplish those goals, and it hurts the chances of a real popular uprising once a critical mass is achieved because it gives the gestapo something to point to and say “See, we’re actually needed for safety and not fascist pigs.” I can’t go fix this problem by myself any other way than the one I am doing right now, and I’m doing the hell out of it.
But it makes me sad, and a little bit depressed, probably like you are feeling too based on your post, to see such an apparent dearth of true patriotism reflected in our ruling class and to further see it echoed by the ruled class with stupid signs and idolatrous Trump flags alongside American flags that the flyer clearly has no real connection to other than as a cult symbol. Always remember how hard moneyed interests in the US attacked our education system, and never forgive the people that have made it a multi generational effort to ensure American children grew up without a true understanding of how government works nor the stakes at hand.
And now, with our society operating with a 6th grade reading level, the ruling class is performing their next trick: fooling the undereducated into allowing the rulers to take over and own everything as they see fit. After all, running things is very complicated and the instruction manuals are written at a much higher reading level than we can really understand entirely, you see. They fucked us, they are fucking us, and they continue to fuck us, while removing our collective ability to spread awareness of the perpetual enfuckening and how it has developed.
It’s just a whole thing, man. Fuck me. I’m trying, I’m doing my best, others are too, the constant reminder that I’m not doing enough is a bit much, and I’m not in a position where I can just declare myself a plumber with an affinity for he color green and see how my new career works out. In fact, that would probably make me less effective to the resistance efforts. You know?

Nobody truly interested/invested in “subversive activity” (heavy on the quotes there) is going to go blabbing about it on the frickin clearnet.
Just because you don’t see things posted online doesn’t mean they’re not happening.
Life exists outside the internet and even in Star Wars the rebellion didn’t go screaming and drawing attention to what they’re doing. Neither did the Empire.
Any real change, in any meaningful direction happens in meatspace. And most people who aren’t in the status quo party(ies) are going to keep low in public when not in huge numbers. Hard to do anything impactful when you’re dead or disappeared.
And with this Americans going whimpering into the night, too afraid to rock their comfortable life and hoping if they stay meek and quiet enough that this will only affect everyone else and avoid them.
It’s like you can’t read, but I know you can because you can write well enough, so I guess it’s that you either didn’t read or lack the tools to comprehend?
When will you be attempting your first political assassination? Who will be your target? Don’t go all American on me now, you’re a big strong Aussie after all, right? You got some MAGA-types down your way, when’s the next attack planned? Or are you going after the US Embassy to really send a message? Do tell…
I agree, but do both. People spend a lot of time online getting their information. Post real sources and real info. And if someone is trolling, post one clarification and move on while you’re there.

A hard fact to swallow is learning thay many if not most people don’t care about things that arent personally and immediately effecting them even one percent as much as some of us do. Call them evil, call them complacent, they won’t care either way.
There is a tacit assumption that all rich and/or powerful people are utterly corrupt and that it’s ever been so. To get someone not personally creepy and corrupt would be the unusual case. So as it works out, there are inexplicably some people who think he is doing an alright job and that anyone who replaced him would be as bad of a person so who cares.
Personally - I think since its illegal, he should be arrested, and most of Congress should too, they are subject to the laws they make. New elections. Rinse and repeat until we get people who care about the country, not themselves.
We are not the only nation with corrupt and irredeemably creepy and abusive politicians. Power corrupts.

They just have it out for him because he tells it like he sees it." You can point out all the inconsistencies in what Trump says, but they've tuned out already. They already know what they need to about him, or they just aren't detail people at all. Some are so far gone, they think, "He's a good person, therefore whatever it was he did was a good thing."
I suspect this will be an unpopular comment, but…
I’ve kind of tuned out. Granted, I don’t live in the US but their policies still closely affect me. Still, I have decided that I would rather spend my mental energy on other things. My partner, my close friends, things that I enjoy, things that make me happy.
I am fully aware that this kind if complacency is exactly what they want. But I just don’t have the energy for it anymore. In the words of John Coffey: I’m tired, boss.
Im not tuned out just tired of shouting. If there’s a venue I can fight in that actually matters, Im there. It’s hard to find a place where you can make a difference so, like they say, start grass roots. Get out in the community. Be a person who shows up.
Because the other choice was Harris and she wasn’t progressive enough.

This was not the result of one elections result, this was the result of over a century of liberalism.
