We do understand exactly how LLMs work though, and it no way fits with any theories of consciousness. It’s just a word extruder with a really good pattern matcher.

I like the comparison but LLMs can’t go insane as they just word pattern engines. It’s why I refuse to go along with the AI industry’s insistance in calling it a “hallucination” when it spits out the wrong words. It literally can not have a false perception of reality because it does not perceive anything in the first place.
- Comment on Microsoft's Satya Nadella wants you to stop saying AI "slop" in 2026 1 week ago:
This feels to me like a common folk saying from somewhere translated into English. It’s also a very apt and appropriately vulgar metaphor for the situation.

Go ahead, no one will notice. No one will immortalize it on camera to be viewed across the internet. It’ll be fine.

Steampunk then: What if we combined real Victorian craftsmanship and tech with imagined advanced machines.
Steampunk now: What if I glued two plastic gears to a cheap vinyl corset.

There’s absolutely no reason to put Kevlar in football pads. Against blunt impacts, it’s no more protective than any other cloth, and a whole lot more expensive. They’re just using the term to be dramatic.

No, most cheese is just clumped milk solids. Also, American cheese isn’t dried cheese sauce, it’s cooled off cheese sauce.
- Comment on Microsoft is turning Windows into an ‘agentic OS,’ starting with the taskbar 1 month ago:
Seems like a situation where more energy needs to be put into preventing screwups than would have been spent just doing the job in the first place. If I hired a human assistant who made such a blatant mistake, and they then turned around and did the thing I just now explicitly told them not to, I would be thinking that they are clearly not cut out for that line of work, and continuing to employ them as an assistant would be foolish. But an “AI” agent does this, and it’s just “Oh, let’s keep trying. It just needs a better model. It just needs better prompts. You just need to watch out for its mistakes.” No thanks.
I mean, you sound like you’re happy using it, and I don’t want to tell you you’re wrong. From a technology design viewpoint, it is a fascinating use case. I just think that for a majority computer users this will only make computers even more frustrating and confusing than they already were. - Comment on No Way 2 months ago:
It’s a reference to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, the joke being a misunderstanding this use of the word Trans to be short for transexual, when in this context it’s actually meant to modify Siberian, as it is a reference to the Trans-Siberian railway.

"They've been saying so many bad things about him for decades, and nothing stuck. He says he's innocent, so who should I believe, the man I trust, or the lying media and the deep state? They just have it out for him because he tells it like he sees it." You can point out all the inconsistencies in what Trump says, but they've tuned out already. They already know what they need to about him, or they just aren't detail people at all. Some are so far gone, they think, "He's a good person, therefore whatever it was he did was a good thing."

It wasn't the user's infrastructure, it was the LLM company's. The selling point is that it's all integrated together for you. You explain what you want, the LLM not only codes it, but launches it too. Yes, his screen shots of the LLM "taking responsibility" are idiotic, but so many people don't understand that LLMs don't actually understand anything.

"Basically their methodology was that they asked ChatGPT whether the job could be automated," he explained. "They also asked people whether the job could be automated and then they said ChatGPT and people agreed some portion of the time."
lol. This is such an idiotic thing to do. "Hey, you know that linguistic pattern matcher that doesn't actually reason or introspect? Since it can talk, why don't we just ask it what it can and can't do?" Seeing this, published by an AI research institute no less, is what inspired the creators of the actually riggourus test the article is about. It inspired me with a desire to smack those idiots upside their empty heads.

People think the stem is too tough, but it just needs to be cooked right. The trick is to start cooking the stem pieces first, then when they just start to be cooked, add the florets. Exact timing depends on the cooking method, but if done right all of it will be tender and tasty.

Yeah, I have to agree; if your plastic cup isn't labeled "coffee", then why are you even bothering to drink a coke?

It's been a while, so I must have exaggerated it in my mind. Three days certainly sounds more plausible.
