This is clearly in indication that, for them, it is NOT about the money.

These are POWER greedy people. Very unattractive to anyone with morals.

I learned how to look at these things a certain way along time ago thanks to Star Trek the next generation:

Captain Picard was, perhaps, one of the most powerful men in the entire galaxy. He was short, bald, and a principal to dork. And he was one of the most respected people in the entire galaxy because of it.

I don’t give a shit about the hair that I’ve lost, and I don’t give a shit about the fact that I’m 5 foot seven. My principles are unassailable, and I will defend my friends to the death.

That’s what makes me a good person. Not what other people think of my hairline.

I also absolutely love how Stewart described Roddenberry standing up for him when a reported asked:

That came up at the very first press conference. A reporter asked Gene Roddenberry, ‘This doesn’t make any sense. You have a bald actor playing this part. Surely by the 24th century, they will have found a cure for male pattern baldness.’ And Gene Roddenberry said, ‘No, by the 24th century, no one will care.

      That line goes hard.

That makes me and you kin.

You cant ignore, though, that society has associated beauty with morality. It’s not accurate but it’s a human condition.

Yeah, this is why I smoke and drink so much. I am already convinced. You don’t need to remind me why I waited a minute.

It’s all true, just, seriously, I’ll do it on my own time

See the fact that you have that strength of character is why you don’t have to pull the stupid shit they all do.

I’ve been ugly, I’ve been hot. I’ve been unprincipled, I’ve been principled. I’ve been charmless, and I’ve been charming. Listen, I’m gonna keep aiming to be principled, charming, and hot in that order.

Being ugly sucks but you can easily get past it. Being off putting sucks, but people who know you know you. Being unprincipled seems great until your reputation is terrible and you have to live with yourself

I’m not trying to shit on you but I know for a fact there are some golden retrievers that only feel pure joy 24 hrs a day.

      source
      • Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works ⁨3⁩ ⁨weeks⁩ ago

        That doesn’t make me jealous.

The fact that we have bred a specious to be happy and bring us happiness imo like our best accomplishment.

Also, I can’t think of a single billionaire who is a bit dog person.

Yeah but those golden retrievers usually have food provided to them and they don’t need to worry about it.

Even golden retrievers get rather depressed when malnourished, although the way we humans have bred them means they’ll still look somewhat optimistic.

For humans the “money can’t buy happiness” limit used to be something like 50-70k, closer to 50k in Europe and 70k in the US, but that was like 15 years ago so now it’d be something closer to 70k in Europe and 100 in the US. What that means is just that you can afford decent housing, transportation, all the necessities, and have a bit left over.

Up to that point money dramatically increases happiness. After that, it doesn’t really have an effect anymore. Making a million a year doesn’t mean you’re any less happy than making a billion. But making 100k a year versus 30k a year is a massive difference.

As someone else pointed out years ago (about Eric Trump, not known for his supermodel looks), there is an amount of wealth and influence where you don't have to look good, because everybody will treat you anyway as if you were the hottest person on the planet. Basically, you want to look ugly because it's a bizarre proof of wealth.

"Look at me, I am so rich, I can have all the supermodels, porn stars, and Hollywood actresses I want, and I don't even have to get plastic surgery or a personal trainer like a poor millionaire (ewww) on a budget."

I’m amused by the idea that the more rich and powerful these people grow, the more certain “common” things are pretty much out of reach for them: regular friendship, love, family ties. Everything is about power balance and tit-for-tat with these guys. Good luck finding anyone who loves you for “you” and isn’t after your fortune. And even if you do, good luck recognizing it and acting on it!

Every once in a while I temporarily tolerate a billionaire for pushing something I like, like zuckerberg with vr, in my head bezos is why these prime shows with no viewers and big budgets keep getting made.
Its probably not them, but this is my coping mechanism for dealing with their existence.
