- Comment on The decline of Intel.. 1 day ago:
I tried to always use AMD, 386SX33, 486DX4/100, Duron 1000, Athlon XP 2200, then went a laptop life with Intel, but since COVID/WFH I went back to AMD, I have a 5600H in a miniPC

It was the same for I guess Google, 15 years ago I’d have apply for a job there, now? no. Right now I’d not apply to everything Musk, Meta, Google, MS, IBM, HP, etc. It does not work. small company, max 100 people, are better.
- Comment on How rental ‘libraries of things’ have become the new way to save money 1 week ago:
In great Montreal area it’s more and more enormous, condo 1000sqft+, thousands of them, that people cannot buy because they are too expensive, I don’t understand the system
- Comment on YSK: You might save on car rental by cancelling and re-booking over time before your rental due date 2 weeks ago:
Also instead of rent from airport, I rent from smaller places (that handle Hertz/Enterprise/National/etc) and I always booked a subcompact, and 50% of the time they had none and gave me a compact/full size car. I had multiple Yaris yes, but one time I got a Dodge Caravan, a Fusion Sport V6, a Flex, a Jetta, a Soul, etc.

Yup, I did this every year when I was going to the states for 3-4 weeks in summer. I started booking in January, then about every week I checked the price for the same summer date, in general it was cheaper so I cancelled/rebooked, multiple times.

For android, Sync is excellent, I even bought it, so no ads.

And it’s not from today, in the 90s a friend of mine was hired for IBM, imagine!!! I don’t think he made a year there, it was already horrible.

Incredible, I started with a ZX81 (it was using a Z80) in 1981, then moved to a CPC6128 in 1984, still using a Z80, I learnt assembler on it, cracking games, etc, good memories :)

Yep, all cars connected so you can pay $20/month for remote start and things like this. The only way to disable cellular connection in the car is to unplug the cell antenna from the module. You have to dig the information online to find where is the module and have to disassemble the dash to do so maybe? But it’s te only way. Even if you don’t pay, the connection will still work and manufacturer receives all info.

- Comment on Minnesota burglars are using Wi-Fi jammers to disable home security systems 2 months ago:
I’m pretty sure those jammers (they saturate wifi band with trafic) are used only for burglary time, say 10-15 minutes, and very local, so the neighbour million$ mansion is far enough that they are not affected. How come FCC detect this?

It’s incredible that I was on reddit for 13 years or something, daily, maybe I spent 20’000 hours there. Then I dropped after the API fiasco (I’m a SyncPro user) and never went back, I have no clue what’s going on since ~July and I don’t care and I don’t miss it :)

Same, winter is coming, with snow a commute could be 2h forth and 2h back, to do ~20 miles ; never again.
- Comment on Amazon exec says it’s time for workers to ‘disagree and commit’ to office return — “I don’t have data to back it up, but I know it’s better.” 5 months ago:
Since March 2020 I work from home. 2 years for a company ~20 miles from me, I went there 1 time to take a PC and 1 time to bring the PC back at the end of my contract. Then a year in a company ~100 miles from me (did 4 trips to bring HW), and for next year I should have a 2+ years contract for a company ~375 miles away.
Never ever I will RTO commuting useless hours. If the job is 5 minutes from me I may, but else, never.
- Comment on Car dealers say they can’t sell EVs, tell Biden to slow their rollout 5 months ago:
The wait time is because there is too much demand and not enough supply. Some people are selling their “waiting list place” for like $2000…
And yes car market is fucked, new or used. I have a 10yo car and couldn’t afford a new one in case of total or something :-/

What do you define as nuclear power? Because something like Pioneer 10 which is in space since 1972, is using a nuclear reactor to provide its power, and it is still working.
