- Comment on The one change that worked: I set my phone to ‘do not disturb’ three years ago – and have never looked back 1 week ago:
True, one of the first thing I did on my phone, set to DnD from 22h to 7h,except for phone calls and SMS from known contacts.
- Comment on Should I DIY this? (Electrical) 2 weeks ago:
Well, obviously on the net everyone will tell you to don’t do it yourself… personally I do change all my outlets, switches, chandeliers, thermostats, etc myself. I moved outlets too, extending them you need an accessible junction box, right wires gauge, romex 12/2, blabla, etc. shorting wires? well, disconnect the wires, move the outlet at the correct place, cut the wires and reput them (with the whatever way it is done in your country).
Having a EE degree and an electrician BIL you should be able to handle this. Best way, ask him to come and let him guide you on the howto.

- Comment on [deleted] 3 weeks ago:
I was like this up to Master’s degree (in CS, in the 90s, it was easier, there was less languages or concepts etc), I only went to courses where I knew about nothing, like Prolog/Caml which is wtf language, and the “compiler” course where you learn about LL(1) grammar, lex/yacc, I knew nothing about this and had to go to the courses. Everything else like Pascal/C/Assembly/etc I did not go. Standard cum laude.
- Comment on Study of 8k Posts Suggests 40+% of Facebook Posts are AI-Generated 4 weeks ago:
It’s incredible, for months now I see some suggested groups, with an AI generated picture of a pet/animal, and the text is always “Great photography”. I block them, but still see new groups every day with things like this, incredible…
- Comment on In the US, is this actually the moment past the point of no return? 3 months ago:
Reagan, he is the starting point of everything: the tax cut from 73% to 28%. USA never got back on track after this.
- Comment on Why do the majority of women still take their partner's last name? 3 months ago:
True, for instance in Québec, Canada, it is illegal for a woman to take her husband name.
- Comment on Microsoft just paused Windows 11 24H2 update for many PCs due to crashes and freezes 3 months ago:
the development/testing is done on Windows under VMs rather than a sample of real world hardware
I highly doubt it, seriously, I don’t think they test update some VMs and say “that’s good”, there’s thousands and thousands people working at MS, I don’t know how many on win11 but certainly a few hundreds, I doubt none of them install the upgrade on real hardware to test.

Netflix in Canada has the 1080p remaster ones, pretty good!

- Comment on Microsoft has a big Windows 10 problem, and only one year to solve it 4 months ago:
I know it’s not a hardware compatibility problem. People just don’t want ads/tracking/AI bullshit, a removed control panel, settings that are hard to find/hidden, etc.
All intel processor 8th gen+ (and even some 7th gen IIRC) are win11 compatible, motherboard have TPM2 for years, even my intel 6th gen MB have TPM2.0.
Next year the intel 8th gen will have 8 years, people have PC/laptop more recent than that. Problem is that win10 will not get security updates and all.
I’m using MX Linux BTW.

- Comment on Some basic info about USB 5 months ago:
my 5680 has absolutely nothing. Checking online I found that the right one is a usb-c 3.2 and the 2 left ones are TB4. IIRC they all support DisplayPort and all support being used as the power input (165W charger), not sure for PD and fast charging a cell/tablet…
- Comment on Some basic info about USB 5 months ago:
True, my latest Dell laptop has 3 “usb-c shaped ports”, there is 0 symbol anywhere close to them or the underside cover, you’re on your own as to what it supports, you have to find the doc online somewhere I guess.
- Comment on Why is Facebook filled with so much random junk now? 5 months ago:
Well, less and less people post stuff like their vacation pic or food pic etc. Then more and more companies pay to be in your feed, so now your feed is only non-sense stuff like yours, or mine, it does not make sense, I often see posts from stuff not in my country or sometimes not in my language.
I only use FB for Marketplace (really big here), and for some FB hobby groups that replace good old forums. I never publish anything, and only one of my friend still post pictures of their journey, that’s it.
In Canada it is way worst, because every sources deemed news media cannot post/share articles, imagine in the USA if your feed had no news like cnn, abc, nbc, cbs, npr, nyt, etc. but in your feed you see all the alternatives news (read: far-right, conspiracy, pro-russian, pro-musk, anti-ev, etc).
This is our reality in Canada, our facebook feed looks like twitter, full of hate and fake news. I always block them, but there are certainly thousands and thousands of bots posting those kind of thing.
FB is dead.

Check also this one github.com/kangyu-california/PersistentWindows
Also I never tried it but windows powertoys fancy zones may help you, you can edit layout and all

- Comment on Microsoft is enabling BitLocker device encryption by default on Windows 11 6 months ago:
It’s good, for privacy and all of course, but I remember here a Dell BIOS upgrade that basically wiped the TPM2.0 and so windows was asking for the recovery bitlocker key at boot. I have them on a encrypted USB key and anyway I can access my MS account from another device to find the key and type it.
But I’m sure a lot of people will basically say “well, fuck, I don’t have the key”, guaranteed.

- Comment on Tech CEOs are backtracking on RTO mandates—now, just 3% want workers in the office full-time 6 months ago:
The trick is to find a job quite far away, current one is 1h30 away, previous was 6h away, pre-previous was 2h30 away, etc. The local employees of those companies have to come 2 or 3 days a week, but me being too far, I can work 100% remote.
