PSP. Although its only 20 years old I still consider it retro
What is your favorite retro console?

My #1 gaming desire is a PSP consolizer. My 3000 unit has a dead UMD, and my 2000 is failing. I just want a clean HDMI out to my TV without the tangled wires. I always manage to pull the power out while playing.

Do you have a lot of UMD games? I got a PSTV (the Vita console), hacked it to use expanded memory (just follow the steps you can find online), and repurchased most of my physical catalog digitally. I think a lot of those games are locked at $10 since the store can no longer receive updates.
I still have my 1000 for physical. But even then, Vita incompatible games like Crisis Core and Spyro (for some reason the PS1 game isn’t compatible with Vita) are available on my PS5.

I spent a good few years with it. It’s been ten years since I sold it. Those games really shine on a retroid pocket with upscaling.
It’s not retro in my mind, but I’m old.

Definitely underrated and also failed so hard. Will always be my favourite though.

There’s no better way to talk to Leonard Nimoy as a pet fish.

Leonard Nimoy was the narrator, not the fish. Alas.

I feel like the DC could have done better if it had implemented some neat features that were well within its ability during that time.
MP3 players were an actual thing during that time and Sega had shown to be a great way to play music via their Saturn music player app. Imagine a world where they had driven the VMU to be a portable mp3 player with ability to rip/transfer music via connection to console.

Sega genisis if we are talking real hardware. Followed by Gameboy.
Lately I’ve been living my miyoo mini plus and steam deck combo. They are both retro game powerhouses.

Genesis is such a great console. Add a SEGA CD and a 32x and you have a wild system with a huge library.

Between Genesis, Sega CD, and Dreamcast, Sega has definitely created the most pure magic for me.

Sega Master System. Bought mine used for 200 Finnish marks. Sold it to buy a karate gi.
Bought an SMS2 in 2009 and RGB-modded it. It’s been hooked up too my CRT ever since.

Mega Drive. It’s just the best.
Someone already mentioned also tracking in the Mega CD and 32x, but it didn’t need it anyway.
It’s again backwards compatible with the amazing Master System if you have a cartridge port converter.
It’s untouchable. And it’s the only console I have hooked up to my TV. (My partner has a switch but it’s on a different TV!)

Nice, I like the Mega Drive/Genesis too.
Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 1 month ago
If we don’t include backwards compatibility, PS1 easily. So many iconic and underrated RPGs from that time. If we do count BC, it would either be PS2 or PS3 by technicality.

I keep wanting to think I’m an RPG kind of gamer, but in reality, all my favorites were from the SNES.

The Amiga 500 is hard to beat.

Favourite as in the one I love the most. Model 1 Genesis, or Virtual Boy. Love their aesthetic.
Favourite as in best Library. PS1/PS2. Massive library of games which are still being enjoyed decades after they were launched.
Favourite as in still using. By my books, I’d consider the PS Vita as retro now, if not then the Nintendo DS/PSP.

My modded Nintendo 3DS with emulators. It is a heavenly beast that runs every Nintendo game released before the Wii and Switch.

I think it’ll have to be the LX-III, been playing through Porgy again.

I’m just going to come in here and say the Neo Geo Pocket Color will always have a place in my heart.
